AOTF is the historical fleet system we have been waiting for, with all the detail you'll need to simulate the great fleet actions in history, AND the sleek playability to get a fleet action done in a few hours. The Flag System is unique and is a great simulation of the fog of war. We have gamed this system at 2 HMGS-South conventions, to rave reviews, and the new players picked it up right away. By the second battle, we had new players acting as the Admirals and ordering the fleets into action successfully. This system makes even the DD and TB Flotillas useful and playable.
If you like larger battles, this is the system for you.

I was looking for a naval wargame that I owned back in the 80's but I just can't remember the name of it. It was similar to Cordite and Steel in that it had charts for D100 hit locations for each class of ship ( WWII ). Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

The only D100 game I know like that is Seekrieg. It uses D100 and lots hit charts and things for just about every aspect of armor type, gun calibre etc..

@@CounterProductiveGames Thanks for replay. Yea, I have Seekrieg and General Quarters but I had one that I sold back in the 80's that for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. It was a WWII version of "Cordite and Steel" and I am wishing I hadn't sold it. Thanks again.

Thanks for an overview, really looking forward to the Flag Officer's Handbook as that's the one I'm looking to pick up. I'm not too keen to pick up another system and would much rather adapt it to General Quarters 3 / Naval Thunder / Victory at Sea if I can... The idea behind it does look very neat, I was looking for the system that can replicate all the confusion and Command & Control issues we're reading about in the books.

I really think the flag system will do that just fine :)

We would love to hear the details of how you adapted the FOH to the other rules since the Signal Card system was designed specifically with that in mind.

@@richtheadmiral740 I'll work on it as a next project, currently busy discovering the joys of minis gaming converted to my favourite hex/square based systems. The project will probably be more complex as well, as I intend to convert systems above to square/hex grid (done similar things before so I should be ok) then add signal system on top of it - which will be a real challange.
I'm really most curious to see how you enforce signal confusion😁

I wonder what a little ship looks like on the 36000 scale? It just be almost invisible. 😁

I can't imagine that being a real thing for the table. I might make sense on PC if doing tabletop simulator or something similar. Then you can zoom in. But on the table??? Yeah, it would just be a speck of dirt!

A very nice objective overview of ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET and good comparisons with SEEKRIEG 5. Looking forward to seeing an overview of the companion volume to AOTF, the FLAG OFFICER'S HANDBOOK which describes in detail how to use the card-based signaling system with AOTF and can be used with other naval games as well.
