  • A few weeks ago Andrea and I took a trip Bordeaux and the Dordogne region of France. We stayed in a rental called "Mont Joie" which overlooks the Dordogne river.
The trip is going to be broken down into 3 parts. This first part is covers the house, Beynac, the Beynac Chateau, the St. Cypien Market, and the Sarlat Market. Subsequent parts will cover our "Gourmet Day" and the final video will cover Bordeaux.
These videos are meant to give you a sense of the area, they aren't a travel guide.
If you have any questions, ask below! I will respond.

so glad I found your channel, we are heading to the Dordogne next summer, staying at Chateau de la Treyne in Lacave. What a view you had! Laughing at Andrea (sorry!) bc that was me trying to walk down the streets of Istanbul, Eze, and Bellagio's cobblestones. I now always take a pair of my trusty On 5s.

Dordogne was a magical escape. far enough from typical tourist spots but no lack of things to do or see. If you're looking for a change in pace, make sure you check out the 2nd video in our trip there when we took a cooking class and had a private tour with a lovely couple. highly recommended.

Thank you for taking us on your trip! We enjoyed the sights, the markets, towns, the river and beautiful countryside views and your music selection. We'll check out video Part two.

Hi Simon. It is a beautiful part of France. So much history and culture. And it’s not too touristy and the weather is perfect. That sounds like a perfect retirement plan.

Bonjour Alain et Andrea - an interesting video, for your American visitor's take on Dordogne! I'm British, and have lived near here for the last twenty years, and it's always good to get the 'outside view'. So - you found Beynac 'steep'! What did your research tell you? These famous villages are always described as 'clinging to the side of the valley'. Just so. Your B&B was perfectly placed, looking out over the Dordogne River and it's verdant valley, and underneath the great chateau, which is 1,000 years old. This sums it up - these villages existed because of either or both the river (which was the artery for all trade); and the senieur's chateau, for whom everybody worked, and to whom they paid their tithes and taxes (including the river boatmen). When you got to Sarlat it was just a shame that the market was your focus, and obscured the extraordinary quality of the Rennaissance buildings that make up the town. The markets are brilliant, but they are all essentially the same, and there is one every day in one place or another, 7 days a week. Best avoid market day if you want to see the town. 😉 Bisoux, Michael x

Hi Michael. thanks for your comments! We loved our stay in Beynac and the steepness is more of a warning to people with mobility issues than it was an issue for us. It was worth the lovely rental we stayed in and the dreamy view of the Dordogne. As for Sarlat, we love french markets - they just don't exist on this side of the pond, but i get your point that we most likely missed the best parts of the town. Hopefully we'll be back. thanks for watching!

Love your video. It has made me feel a little more at ease as my family and I are traveling there in less than 2 weeks.
How was the city for dining? We are staying in one of the castles there.

Hi Katy, Beynac is a very small medieval town with only a handful of restaurants. The food in that town was fine, but nothing remarkable (or worth including in a video). The area is very spread out with lots to experience in the surrounding area. make sure to check out part 2 in my Dordogne videos that focused on our foodie experience.
