Ya, two grit and Amazing competitors.
Saterday November 18th Parker Valby will win and be NCAA Cross Country Champion 2023 .
Good luck to both awesomely talented women!!! No matter the outcome both should hold their head up high! They should be so proud of all the hard work they’ve put in to becoming the best in their sport!!! Love them both!!!

Parker Valby will get stronger and be a faster runner in future races. Parker will continue to improve this year and the years to follow. Parker has an advantage in the coaching she receives and that will give her the edge to win the NCAA cross country national championship.
In the post race after the ACCs, which Tuohy won going away, Norm Ogilvie, former track coach at Duke and (admittedly) an unabashed Katelyn fanboy, made several points clear: First, Tuohy's goal was not to peak for Nuttycombe, it's to peak on November 18 at the NCAA champs. Second, Parker better not take anything for granted. I have watched hours of Perry King's Starshine Reflections where he chronicles KT's rise from seventh grade forest sprite to collegiate alpha wolf. Katelyn has run, and won, dozens of tough races. Maybe the hardest was NXN 2019 where she just edged Sidney Thorvaldson and Taylor Ewert at the tape. As far as XC tactics go, she knows every trick in the book. All you have to do is watch the 2022 champs to see that. And she's tough as nails. I'll go with Norm and give Tuohy the edge.
@Philobibion, I totally agree with that statement. I believe Katelyn took time off after World trials and decided
how she world move into the 23-24 season. No competitions until Nuttycombe and peaking for Nationals. Look
at her demeanor after her loss to Parker. It didn't bother her one bit. I think she has her season planned out. Fewer
races run in cross country, indoor season and outdoor season. All to peak at the right time for Nationals. Last year
she blasted completely through cross country, indoor season and doing all those pro races from indoor to outdoor.
It was just to much! She ran a 4:06 1500m indoor but was just burned out at outdoors after breaking the 5000m
record 15:03. Just to many pro races. She got it figured out.
@@charlesharmon5447 Thank you Charles and I hope you're right about her staying around for indoor and outdoor seasons. She has some unfinished business: Sisson's indoor 5000 record which is very do-able at 15:12.22, and Simpson's outdoor in-season 3:59.9 1500. If she gets Sisson's 5000, and Simpson's 1500 she really will be the GOAT of NCAA D1 distance running.
@@Philobiblion Yes, I think she went along with coach last year doing to many pro races. From her coaches
approach it was to challenged Katelyn, which is good but pushing to much out of the normal is too much.
Katelyn is a team player and like training with her team. Going to excessive pro races helps for a short period
of time but each place or competition is different and she is running with better racers. At some point, it
becomes to challenging for someone who is in school trying to keep up with her studies and being away from
her team. It was just to much! She was slowing down moving through outdoor season running at college
competition. She left her best against the pros. She should run one or two pro races maximum this coming
season. I believe she can break those records without running against the pros. Her outdoor 1500m in 2022
season was 4:06. Philobiblion, go watch that ACC outdoor season run and you will see she was in complete
control of that race. She lead from the front and just ran away. When you look at her face... she was at what
I call "Zero Point", what i mean by that is; she had not stress on her face or in her eyes... "Complete Control"!
I believe Katelyn knows herself and will take a more control over her training with her coach this year. There
will be more of a collaboration between the two of them.

She can't be this fierce competitor who either can't lose or hates to lose on one hand, but on the other - she is just fine losing by such a large margin to someone who has never beaten her -- she's suddenly OK with it because she has some perfect imaginary season planned out. Not buying it. I'm sure losing at Nuttycombe was not in her utopian, running season plans.

I only bet on sports when I'm as close to sure as possible as far as who will prevail... and I wouldn't bet a penny on this one. As evenly matched on paper as possible coming in. Should be a great race. I'll pick Tuohy for the win, but we'll see which one prevails. I will say that it'll be one of them and no other. That I'd bet on!

Hope Valby can stay healthy. She seems so injury prone that if she tries to continue on as a pro runner at some point, the high mileage may cause an injury she doesn't come back from. Cross training won't get it done at the pro level. Excited for this race!

The only way Tuohy will win at NCAA is to return to the way she ran in high school, which is to set an insane pace even Parker would find challenging. Otherwise, run for the team and ensure NC State team wins against NAU. Be prepared to leave everything on the course; too often Tuohy runs conservatively, which works for most college runs but won't against Valby. Think about going 18:30 0r better. One or both better be willing to be exhausted at the end. Like the NXN cross country race in 2019 in high school where Tuohy was close to exhaustion at the end but still won.
Exactly right. I think NXN 2019 was KT's toughest race.
By a second if the race was two feet longer she would have lost in 2019

Both awesome, love Parker's Marilyn look, and she's an amazing talent, but then so is Katlyn who has a little more track speed I think.

She was my trophy-wife escorted by the 2 best other runners in the sport.... they put her beautiful angel ass on the pedestal where she always belonged, & we popped open our Champaigne & celebratory confetti as she smiled in her cute fuzzy gloves.... er? uh? i mean? why all the hearts popped out & the hands on the clock spinned around i meant to say..... ha ha..... god bless her.... what a littel doll-faced Valkyrie i mean
Katlyn is also super focused on the team. That’s partly why she finished so far behind at Nuttycomb. At the finish she was cheering her team . Valby also had a significantly flatter course that Katlyn had at ACC.
