the more you talk about what you want to do the more elaborate this is becoming. Thats why i like your builds. you love going all the way with it once you get the ball rolling until its a thing of beauty on the outside and inside.
This video has me rolling. I remember the first time I took off the tank from my Hyper. I wish I had of seen this series sooner, I've got a step by step tutorial on Ducati.ms for doing the valves and belts which includes pulling the body work and tank.
Great series mate, I have a Multistrada that probably needs refreshing at some point. This was the reason I first subscribed to you back in the day when you were building the CBR. You've come a long way and your success is well deserved. Looking forward to the end product. Stay safe!
A bike is never really yours until you've wielded some spanners and taken it apart and rebuilt it. First thing I do with my competition bikes, take them apart, make sure everything is properly greased then rebuild and loctite. That way if and when something fails, you know how best to change it, what order to disassemble, what tools you need etc. All makes the bike feel personally yours. Great content this series, really enjoying it.
This was the reason why i wanted to do the valve service on my 848, but I was too intimidated by not having the correct shim sizes and proper tools for locking the motor tdc etc.....
Floor looks great, even makes the bikes look way better on Camara! Marvel intro is perfect too 😄 can't believe how much stuff you've managed to get sorted out for the bike already, nice work
Chops. I love these sorts of videos. Being a mechanic i can appreciate the trials and tribulations you will be encountering. Keep at it mate. Brilliant.
Looking forward to following your restoration! I'm current under a country wide lockdown so I can't work on my own bike build, but I can tell you're going to turn this Ducati into a beast!
You can cut the finger of the glove to use as a bung, fill the bit of cloth if you need to stick in hole. Or you could just cable tie the finger of the glove over the fuel pump part that was dripping. Keep them coming Chops!! 👊🏍👍
One thing I usually do when taking bikes apart.. especially now that the tank is off, I usually give it a good bath with some degreaser and a brush and rinse all the dirt away. Blow it dry or let it sit in the sun to dry. It will make working on the bike much more fun!
Leave the fork tubes alone do the triple tree red to match frame sub frame burnt bronze to match engine case in my color scheme feeble mind. Great video, your post production is always top notch!🏍
After your black out/ battery change the picture quality seemed brighter and more detailed. Can you imagine the price for a air filter change, if they have to go down deep like yourself.💪💪👍
You know your getting bored in lock down when someone's garage floor is entertaining. It does look good though 👍 I felt a huge sense of relief when you finally got the tank off 😀
Floor looks great, watch out for the bike sidestands when they load up, the paint can chip as they push down. I used a puk under mine just in case. Good luck with the restoration.
I'm a bit late on this, I have 1000ss, same engine paint problem. I took mine to a place in Kent, they bunged all the inlets and vapour basted it. Really good result, no paint on the engine just gt85.
Well done chops, great video. Taking the fuel tank off was also a real pain on my Multistrada project. I just new you would leak fuel when you disconnected the leads from the pump ☺. Warning, go easy with the fuel pump wiring as you can introduce a fault where the pump intermittently stops working! I spent hours troubleshooting that one 😐
Love your work Chops. I bought one recently and have subscribed and am watching with interest. Would be good if you could post links to the sites you are buying the kit from below the videos as the work progresses. Cheers
Great vid , thanks from stopping me going mental ! as one of the major supermarket says 'every little helps' I look forward to the next episode, the sooner the better please ! stay safe
fascinating stuff. my dream of building a bike is gonna stay a dream tho. dont have your guts or knowhow... any thoughts on front sus internals / upgrade, did u say and i missed it?
You're a braver man than me Chopsy...I don't even like taking the seat off! But strangely, I love vids like this. Looking forward to the next instalment, thanks.
Brings back painful and expensive memories! I stripped a Sport Classic for the exact same reason. Ended up having engine stripped and soda blasted. It did look nice in raw ally but probably not ideal if plan is to ride in the wet. I think I ended up lifting the frame off the engine. I made a small dolly and strapped the engine to it. The engines are surprisingly heavy! Drain the petrol tank so it keeps the original shape. Have fun!
replace the 3 nuts holding the exhaust onto the head is my tip. They suffer from dissimilar metal corrosion and eat the studs. cylinder off, so you can machine and re-tap. I change them yearly. Been bitten twice. all Ducati's are the same. enjoyed the video fella
Great tip for you.... something I will be doing to my bike. In this video you are suggesting that you're gonna do something with the triple clamps. Look for a guy on TH-cam 'Cameron Niemela' and he polishes out the castings on the triple clamps....looks amazing and would look great on the Duc....👍
People used to joke about Italian bikes electronics being unreliable, when you place them directly where water and crud can be sprayed on them you understand why the jokes came about! Also why do bike manufacturers use so many fixings to attach stuff when half the amount would do!
You mentioned inducation kits and long range tank. Having had both options in teh past I can tell you that you can have one or the other - not both together. The stacks/filters set up of the induction kit, whether Ducshop or Beast (both from US) foul on the long range tank (California Cycleworks, also US) - those cone filters are MASSIVE! But properly set up you'll get a genuine 90+bhp, much better throtte response and a lovely induction roar. Both are a great mod, for different reasons. Currently got the LRT on mine but plan to go back to the induction kit - once I can face the hassle of wrestling with the tank. And you thought the standard tank was a PITA...
Yes indeed found that out now, really want the induction kit but it's very expensive and then shipping and import duty on top! Think its standard filter for me 😪
@@LambChopRides Believe me, you NEED that induction kit! Look at that restricted airbox hole that the standard bike breathes thru - even the enlarged version supplied with the Termi pipes is pretty poor. Looks like Ducshop and possibly TPO have stopped production but they do come up secondhand occasionally. Worth waiting for, especially as you already have a free breathing exhaust . I'd sell you mine but 1. It's going back on the bike and 2. Your salivating over Sato rearsets has cost me big bucks - even if mine are some ex-demo ones!
Thanks for the fantastic entertainment 007. Bit dangerous though; makes me want to find an air cooled Ducati, spend some money and get dirty in the shed myself. I’m far better at watching other people work. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Lamb Chop Rides have you sold the gsxr1000 yet ? I spoke to you about buying your old exhaust if you remember ? Great work has always chops my favourite blogger 👍
Lamb Chop Rides that’s a shame mate hopefully things will get back to normal soon ! We can ride & work Have a cracking Easter weekend and stay at home 🏠😂👍
Loving the series. I'm almost done doing up a Monster796 for my daughter (condition was better then your Hypermotard). Can relate to lots of the little problems you get into all the time. No better place to be (man cave) in these times. Keep up the great work!
Congrats man, really interesting video, I'll be waiting for the next episode. I aso own a 796 Hyper. In my opinion (as they already told you) i would also change the exhaust for the double pipes one (termi aswell), though, incredible sound. Greetings from the Basque Country!
Another top vid...brilliant. keep them rolling now more than ever for our sanity ...!!!🤣🤣🤣 Slightly off topic but would you know if the vht paint you used on your blade is the same as other blades...? I have a 929 and both casings are quite tatty from scuffs etc, not from crashing tho lol....I'm struggling to fing a code or a close match..! The bike is mint but the casings are really letting it down..!...
Thanks Chris! No the paint wasnt a match to the standard colour. Think you will struggle to get a match in a decent paint. See what my silver looks like on the Duc it might be close??
@@LambChopRides I'm not bothered if it's not exact but somewhere close would do, it's the semi gloss that I think I'm going to struggle with..! Unless you're going to powder coat the rear sub frame to black too? Then, THEN you turn her into a black and red stealth bomber!
Started to watch your videos as I’m planning on doing the same thing too my 748 like your Hyper it’s starting to look tired the engine paint is far far worse than on your bike so looking forward to seeing you do the engine. Personally I’d paint the subframe red!!! Looking forward to the next one👍
Thanks Ian, yeah looking forward to getting to the engine as that's the best bit when a lovely new clean looking bikes starts to emerge. I trying to decide on colour schemes, it's quite tricky but black red & gold are always good combos 😎

Damn lucky you could actually remove the quick disconnect fittings for the fuel pump! Mine are stuck solid meaning I have to also remove the fuel pump to get the tank off lol, just makes getting to the airfilters even more fun :)
