Hi Mr. Weeks. Thank you for these videos. They bring back such memories. I remember the day my father pulled into the driveway with this plane in pieces arriving from California where he had bought it. He spent 3 years rebuilding it in our garage. I still remember the smelling the dope paint. By now you have owned it much longer than we ever did, but this plane is so special to me. I was about 6 years old flying in the back and bottom of this plane. (I am now 45). Thank you for loving it even more than us. Wow. What a bird. And yes it is LOUD. I think I still have hearing loss from it. Haha.

Kermit is by far the kindest man I've seen here in the world of aviation. Getting down to the Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida and seeing these aircraft in person is definitely on my list, a flight in one of these historic beauties would be even more awesome too!

Jake Kellogg yes agree, definitely a giver. Saving some of our history and heritage but giving a video documented archive for free as well which perhaps in someways could be more important for future generations to come.

I went all the way to Florida to see the Duck, but it wasn't there! Still a great day out though at Fantasy of Flight. Such a contrast to the typical attractions in the area, hope to visit again soon.

What really caught my attention was the solution to hand crank the new heavier gear by doing a negative G ... shows the knowledge, depth and love for flying.

I remember seeing the duck on an episode of the old Black sheep squadron. They packed a bunch of guys into the little lower cabin and I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. I still do think it's pretty cool!

    How's the battleship purchase going?
Per a question below, just about all countries operated seaplanes like this from battleships, primarily for use as shot spotters. Example, on the US Iowas, there were 2 aimable catapults, port + starboard at the stern, and a large recovery crane at the furthest aft point. They were removed sometime after WW-II, when helicopters became practical.
This set of 3 videos is among my favorites.

The historic aviation world is damn lucky that there's someone amoungst the brothers who has the gumption, resources, and most of all the cojones to acquire, restore, preserve, AND ESPECIALLY FLY these beautiful machines - sure as heck ain't me as i can barely afford the tie down and taxes for my 48 ercoupe. And annuals. Damn annuals. The things birdmen must do to beat gravity into submission....

They are one of a kind.
I like very much the information you give regarding the airplane.
For you guys allways between airplanes its a simple thing or of no importance, but for us we are unlucky and watch only from the Internet, all these informations are new and exciting.

I believe they operated from Seaplane tenders, rather than Battleships and Cruisers, and the cable is used to hoist them aboard the Seaplane tender.

    • @ronschlorff7089

Terence Smith Grumman, a truly legendary aircraft manufacturer, the Hellcat, stubby and strong, ruled the skies over the WWII Pacific. And, Oh yes, 6 of their little "beauties" are on the moon as we speak (the landing stages remain intact; the ascent stages returned the astronauts to the Command module, then were allowed to crash onto the moon). Yes, Grumman made the LEM, the lunar landers, that flew their missions flawlessly, every time they were asked to. Those are "beauty contest winners" in my book!!!
