    When the Ego is silent, the music speaks naturally. Wonderful.

    Every time I listen his music, I think this play has more deep touching than any other's op. 119 play. Respekt

    First heard him play fifty years ago when I was in college. He was great then and still is.

    Absolutely gorgeous. This is real Brahms playing. So rareto have these gifts of pianism and stylistic-interpretive insight.

    Superb performance. Rhapsody is best I've heard other than Katchen. Perfect sense of pace and natural phrasing. It does feel like the music itself speaking directly.

    Richard Goode was a student of Rudolf Serkin - it shows in his powerful performances of the Beethoven Sonatas

    What is he doing with his mouth? Does that effect the sound of the piano? And did he take enough bows?

    • @organman52
      @organman52 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is your contention. Mine is - musicians are mostly pretentious and do what they 'have to' to impress others.

    • @MattLamPiano
      @MattLamPiano 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      organman52 I disagree with you, sometimes you see musicians do movements like these because they help expressing the music. I play the piano and people tell me I move my mouth when I play but I'm not aware. Also sometimes I hum along with the music just because I find it helps with phrasing and it helps me relax as well. So no I don't think most musicians are pretentious and trying to "impress" people with extra movements. Singers move a lot and have big gestures when they sing, and it's not because they are pretentious.
      I would rather watch this than watching someone performing like a log, might as well watch a robot play if you do

    • @organman52
      @organman52 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whatever. Just look at DeLarrocha or Hamelin, for example. They never move anything but their arms and hands and their playing is absolutely beautiful. It is not about US. It is about the master composers and the reverence we must have for their property.

    • @MattLamPiano
      @MattLamPiano 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      organman52 I'm not saying musicians who don't move as much sound bad or anything, but if those small movements are just ways for them to express themselves, what's the harm in that?

    • @organman52
      @organman52 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's distracting and obnoxious. Otherwise, it's just fine.

    • @raymondgood6555
      @raymondgood6555 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carl Riskin if he really had these pieces memorized there would be no need for the score in front of him!

    • @CordeliaWilliams
      @CordeliaWilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@raymondgood6555 He has certainly memorised all these pieces, and performed them many times without the score. If you have performed on world stages then you will know that the pressure of playing with no score can sometimes start to become a distraction from the interpretation of the music itself, and from the pleasure of playing. If such a wonderful and respected pianist as Richard Goode prefers to have the score there in order to relax and put the music first, he has earned that right over decades of performing.
      (In any case, I believe the tradition of playing from memory only started with the 'show-off culture' of virtuosos such as Liszt. Before then, musicians would never have presumed such arrogance as to play someone else's music without the score! It is so odd that it has become expected now.)

    • @raymondgood6555
      @raymondgood6555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think anyone knows if he has memorized these pieces except Mr Goode. Richter was such a good sight reader that many of his concerts were sight read- and played as only Richter could!
