The plot twist no one saw coming. It's a shame really...other than Derek, Meredith had great chemistry with bomb guy. Would've made hell of a love story.
Trish E. She doesn’t deserve a slap she doesn’t deserve a Pat on the back either but this girls life has barely begun and she freaking out, she had her hand in a bomb for hours, the only other person there who was pumping the ambu bag left her she was reasonably panicked and overwhelmed. It was incredibly selfish was she did but also very understandable.

i still cannot believe that after this everything went back to normal, mer (and the others in the or) experienced something so traumatizing but there is nothing done about it
And this was the moment that I fell in love with this show. They actually dared to show a man blow up in a fiery explosion right in front of the main character. Well done Shonda, most writers wouldn't have dared this shot. Well done.
It’s called plot armor. When you put certain characters in insane situations that should and would end badly but they come out easily it’s just bad writing.
Maybe. But at the start of the bomb two parter, George was having a fantasy of the girls in the shower but when he saw the reality of things at the end of the bomb story, he realized the truth was not what he thought and he did not want to intrude on the girls helping Meredith who was in shock among other things. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. But that was just a beautiful scene. Where Izzie and Cristina were helping their friend.
camryn gamble it was designed so if you’re within the blast zone it won’t kill you with shrapnel and may redirect some energy. But when you’re standing or in this case holding the bomb, you’re dead anyways. That’s why most bomb squads don’t go in person unless all other options are exhausted
No matter how many times I see this episode it is as impactful as the first time. And it guts me everytime that after everything, he ended up getting blown up! 💔
nothing could ever prepare me for how this episode ended. i was in absolute shock when I first watched it like holy shit? just like that? music stops and there's the pink dust they talked about.
Why didn't the bomb squad (which, btw, should have come in a full body armour, including helmets) bring and use one of those blast containment bins? The amo could have been deposed there right after being taken out of the patient.... Also, at the end, why isn't Meredith getting evaluated first and treated, BEFORE shower? She was caught in the blast!
Cuz a bazooka round is way too big for one of those bins. They are meant for smaller bombs. You actually make the explosive more powerful if you confine it because the force would be applied In a smaller area. As for helmets and other gear and such, it's basically useless when the bomb is that close. All it would have done was limit movement. Even if he didn't get hit by shrapnel or caught in the explosion, the concussive blast would have killed him by rupturing his organs internally.
he would've blown up either way no matter how much protective gear he wore. He was literally holding the bomb it wouldn't have mattered. And as for the containment bin thing, it looked like he was walking towards a guy holding one of those.
its like she is getting baptised in the end. relief to have survived, but having survivors guilt... "you did good".... is a phrase that from now on, may cause her to cry for the memory... but also to celebrate her own life, and that of everyone else in the er who survived, because of her and because another took that bomb away. even if it took his life shortly after... they did good.
He was her true love. Even through the breakups she still loved him. Remember the episode where mer gives him the “pick me, choose me, love me” monologue?

My partner and I were joking when we watched it that they’d hear a boom down the corridor as the bomb was being carried out, and then it actually happened and we were in shock!
Why would he carry the bomb and all the way to where, the container was supposed to be next to him after taken it from her and cover up to contain the explosion after moving from the body.
Unrealistic, they would have had the bomb container nearby and those guys would have been wearing a better suit that would have covered their heads and easily managed the explosion.
It’s good to know that there’s more safety protocols irl because I always questioned how he was supposed to walk all of the way out holding the bomb like that
No it’s two parts. First part is called “it’s the end of the world”, the second part was called “as we know it” (the whole premise of the episode was if you knew it was your last day on earth, who would you want spend it with, how would you spend your last day.
Didn’t watch the show always, but saw this episode when my mother was watching it. I know there a lot of problems with the way the bomb was handled but it was still suspenseful. Love the chemistry coach Taylor and Meredith had. Btw, as a huge fan of Friday Night Lights, even I wanted to run through a brick wall after an inspirational speech by coach Taylor to his football team. My wife said I would have to give her permission to have an affair with him.
How did the bomb even get inside the person and how did meradeth get stuck? Did they like not know about it then she found it while doing surgery on the guy?
Skye Keenan so like the patient got hit by a bazooka that had a bomb. so the bomb was inside the patient. so when the patient was in the ambulance, one of the ambulance doctor was holding on the bomb, which she didn’t know it was a bomb. then when alex karev found out the bomb was in the patient, preston burke was like shocked and called a code black. then the ambulance doctor was keeping the patient alive by holding on the bomb. she then gave up holding the bomb and ran away, so meredith substituted for her. so meredith was holding the bomb.
Skye Keenan I’ve haven’t watched this episode in a while but if I remember correctly, the patient and his friends were drunk and fooling around. They made these explosives with the intentions of it being similar to launching fireworks, but one landed in the patient. The EMT on the scene was new and young, and she couldn’t stop the patient’s bleeding so she simply stuck her hand inside the patient which ended up working. Later, after the doctors get the backstory from the family and realize the device is a bomb, they notify the surgeons and the EMT (whose hand is still inside the patient on top of the bomb). The EMT freaks out during the patient’s surgery and pulls her hand out (which could have caused the bomb to shift and detonate), and Meredith (being one of the surgeons) quickly puts her hand inside the patient in the EMT’s place.
My question is how did the bomb “end up” inside the patient. It’s not connecting in my head. If you are hit with a bazooka or whatever, wouldn’t that just blow you to pieces??? The only way I can think of a bomb like that getting inside of someone is one of those horrible ER stories where the guy shoved it up his own ass and it gets stuck. I’m just confused.
