Claymore's manga is amazing. I've been praying for a remake to the anime, but we'll never get it 😭

According to an interview with Stephen Colbert, George R. R. Martin stated that he created much of the history of the universe. Miyazaki and From Software created the characters and the world, then asked Martin to create the scenarios, events, and the drama between the major characters (ie bosses) that led to the post-apocolyptic hell-scape of the current setting. If this is true, there are probably enough material in Martin's notes to create a prequel novel that would answer many questions and theories. I sincerely hope that Martin, From Software, or anyone involved with the game, releases those notes and make a book like the Silmarillion for the Lord of the Ring.

I would also recommend the Tarnished Archeologist. VERY interesting stuff. It is important, however, to watch his videos in order they were released in, because he makes numerous references to videos that are 3 vids back or something like that.

I've put around 3,000 hours into Elden Ring since it released, and the biggest mystery of myself, and most people, is what is going on with Radagon and Merika. The only thing I can think of is that they're maybe a euphemism for being a hermaphrodite (futanari if you're cultured), being half male and half female, however, it is implied that they were seperate at one point, but no longer are. Radagon left Renalla to go to Merika, but the statue that Vaati mentions and shows does give credence to them always being one entity.
It could potentially be something akin to split personality, where both minds manifested fully and are able to morph the "host's" body to their will. When you enter the erdtree, there is a cut scene of Merika being strung up by a rune in the empty trunk of the tree, and once you enter, the bonds shatter and she falls to the ground, and shatters, but it's Radagon who stands up, weapon in hand, to fight you. And when you finish all of that, Merika is slumped on the ground, her head no longer missing half of it as it does when Radagon is present. There is a lore reason for why it would be Radagon who fights you, but it somewhat seems like Merika wants the Erdtree to be destroyed, so... why isn't she ever present? That theory only gains some plausibility if you choose to believe that Melina is not actually the daughter of Merika and Radagon, which that in itself is a theory, she references Merika as her mother, but it's entirely possible she isn't.
Sorry for the tangent. Great reaction. Vaati has a lot of great Elden Ring videos, I think anyone of them would be good for future reactions, especially since you seem genuinely interested in what's being shown and told to you. I love the game deeply and sometimes, these questions keep me up at night.

While lots of people see Vaati as "the lore guy", there are plenty of other great lore channels. I would especially recommend Smoughtown, Hawkshaw and Ratatoskr.

There's actually a pet theory I have about how Marika and Radagon function. From what I understand, Yggdrasil in norse mythology is distinctly an european Ash tree, and those have very interesting gender dynamics even among trees in general. Most trees are either mono- or diecious, meaning they produce either one of the two gametes, male or female, or they produce both in some capacity. European ash trees can do either or, depending on the individual, but most interestingly some can change between purely male or female gamete production from one year to another. And since the erdtree is clearly linked to the yggdrasil and in turn Marika, it could make sense that Marika would also have this aspect.

When it comes to Marika and Radagon, the thing that bears the clearest resemblance is the real world theory of the Rebis. Which is meant to be an alchemical magnum opus, reuniting two opposing elements after once being separated. With the most common depiction of rebis being a reunion of both male and female qualities, creating what is meant to be the perfect being, which immediately sets off every imaginable alarm bell with Marika and Radagon

What stands out to me is that The Shattering causing massive disruptions to what was a finished work, and the underlying ethos of strength through overcoming adversity.... these are not the concepts hailed by order. These are the virtues of chaos. And there are settings where order and chaos must temper each other to find balance, but for what is essentially (in DC terminology) A Lord of Order's Anchor causing great Chaos... This... Well it is very interesting.

One of the best parts about his whole series on Elden Ring is that the further you get into it, the more the production quality becomes insane, as if it wasn't good enough already

elden ring seems to be inspired by old alchemy and the duality of marika and radagon is really weird but maybe inspired by rabis, the end product of alchemical great work, depicted a single being with two heads, one male and one female, which explains why they can be the same being but have different goals

for me Radagon was always Marika, I mean, we have like 10 pieces of evidence that they were always the same against a line of dialogue that depending on how you interpret it may still not mean that Marika was always Radagon, honestly, I prefer that tehha always been, that would make a lot of things in the game's lore make sense

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I still prefer the notion that, whatever their original connection was, the two were physically separated long enough for Radagon to build relations with the Carians while Marika catered to affairs in Leyendell and the territories controlled by the Golden Order.

Radahn is greatest Chad in the lands between. He challenged the stars themselves, WON and held the stars in place and prevented fate itself from progressing. Even as he is rotting alive after eating a outer god bio-nuke to the face, the man keeps holding the stars in place. I recommend watching Scarlet Skies.
Edit; Also, my take on the Radagon/Marika is a sort of shadow clone situation. Something a bit more because of divinity, but... yeah.

I should clarify that we don't know precisely when Miquella and Malenia were born or what state Marika and Radagon were in when they did the deed, although I've always considered the Empyrean Twins to have been bore before the Shattering, as otherwise they would have both been far too young to have participated in Morgott's Council of Kings in the aftermath of The Shattering, nor could they have participated in the war that followed. Further, I would also contend that Radagon and Marika had to be separate entities at at least some point to both facilitate Radagon leaving Leyendell to be with Rennala and have children with her, as well as later being publically married to Marika and becoming Elden Lord, and for Radagon and Marika to of course do the deed and have Miquella and Malenia.
It also doesn't make sense for Miquella and Malenia to be born after The Shattering, because Marika was punished by the Elden Beast for shattering the Elden Ring by binding her to the Erdtree and the remnants of the Elden Ring, as well as torturing her, as evidenced by the giant red pole jabbed through her.

33:20 - Some things can be intricate and difficult to explain. I approach it this way. The simplest solution is the best. How could Marika have children with Radagon if they are the same person? Marika is a god. For humans, such things are impossible. And what is impossible for a god? Even in reality, there are extremely rare cases of female pregnancy without fertilization by a man. This is called Parthenogenesis. Something like that exists. So in a fantasy world and it's also a god, what is impossible for such a being!

I believe I've mentioned this previously, but another TH-camr by the name of SmoughTown also does videos regarding FromSoft and Elden Ring lore, although his videos tend to be more specific and self-contained, to the point where a lot of information gets repeated across his videos, albeit with different context and emphasis on certain details.
I should also mention that SmoughTown talks with other lore enthusiasts and consults their work, comparing and contrasting their conclusions about the lore and crediting information that they've uncovered; SmoughTown frequently cites another content creator by the name of Loki for work in comparing the original Japanese text and dialogue to the English variations, as well as delving into Japanese cultural and historical references that might not be readily apparent, as well as Tarnished Archaeologist, who approaches the world-building of Elden Ring as a paleontologist or archaeological anthropologist would by examining the architecture of the game world and looking for small details, such as establishing cultural drift based on shared assets or examining the placement of NPCs in specific locations.
They're all quite a treat, and I highly recommend giving them a look.
