It's crazy to me that we are at a point that drag shows are becoming illegal but beauty pageants with young children is still totally fine. They literally sexualize children at pageants but because it's straight culture it's fine for some reason.

Yes! I can't agree more, they are a celebration of femininity and i love it, watching drag has inspired my love and appreciation of meakeup. I used to be a real tomboy when i was a child/ teenager and looking back I was quite ashamed of being female, as I was brought up with the typical 'girls are lame' stereotype that is portrayed across all media. I thought I couldn't really be cool and interesting if I was 'just a girl'. Me and my sister always played as male characters, we had boy names for ourselves (Sam and Max), my internalised sexism and self hatred of being a (shock horror) woman was very real. Only now at the age of 38 can I actually call myself a woman comfortably, I remember a little girl pointing to me once and asking her mum if she could say hello to that lady and I looked round as I was like what lady? She's not talking about me surely, there'sno lady here! I want to add that I am not trans, I've never wanted to change genders I just struggled to find many things I could relate to in the typical media/ world view portrayal of a 'girl', I always felt well I'm not like that. I realise now a girl/ woman can be like anything they want to be, I just wish I could have seen that as a child. Sorry oversharing rant over!

@@cb1297 the definition of adult cabaret performance in the text of the bill includes "male or female impersonators," and they threw in the phrase "or similar entertainers" to basically let them cover anyone performing gender in a unique way. they have banned those groups from performing anywhere where they could "be viewed by a person who is not an adult," so anywhere in public, and law enforcement will absolutely interpret existing in public as "performing." they have banned drag. and made it vague enough that trans people are going to be targeted as well.

@@e_i_e_i_bro Aren’t “adult performances in front of children” illegal anyway?

You think the family would walk in mistaking it for a Chucky Cheese?
If you think that’s the reasoning behind this, why have drag queens specifically been targeted?

Your comment got me thinking. I would like to test this "drag ban" or where ever they are protesting it. How about some cis ladies get in full drag as ladies and go do a storytime or a show and see what happens. I am saying this as I don't think you can tell "who" is under all the drag when it is done well. Then we see if this ban is really about the "drag" or about who is doing the drag. They would have to admit that they do indeed just want to discriminate against LGBTQ+. They would have to admit they just are looking for a way to suppress something that is non gender conforming. Would they say, it's okay for you ladies to glam to the hilt and do a storytime or a show, but not someone who is not woman. Or would they ban the women form doing it as well? I doubt they would band the women. Or have they already come out and said that this would only apply to men and trans people? Canadian as well here so I don't know what the whole deal here is, other than just plain discrimination.

One of the reasons Dolly has lasted so long in the business and is loved by everyone is because she keeps out of politics completely. She isn't going to say anything that will alienate over half her fan base - And nor should she! She's far too astute. And she isn't inspired by drag queens. She has recounted often enough that her love of makeup and wigs was inspired by the local town prostitute. It's only pre-Drag Race that she has joked about looking like a drag queen.

The drag brunches or story time hour are singing Taylor swift in a gown or reading about Olaf while dressed up as Elsa.

There have been some proposals in my state for girls, under the age of 18, who want to play sports to be "tested" that they are female...blood tests, gyno testing that is only done on adult females, etc. The testing would be done by doctors chosen by a particular school's school board, not by that child's pediatrician/doctor.
I don't believe these bills ever made it out of committee, however there are currently 44 states where high school aged females play ask them about their menstrual cycle on medical forms you have to turn in to play on a school team.

I feel like who I am as a person is being attacked in multiple directions. Not only do I not have control over my body as an afab person, I now also can be discriminated against for my gender presentation. We had protestors at a drag storytime event for children earlier this year in Christchurch. As a result, the ticket sales skyrocketed, and a whole bunch of families attended. Essentially, the protesting led to more publicity for the drag artist. Still, it can't have been easy for that performer.

I don’t know French but thank you for listening to the subject about our queer issues in North America! I wish we lived in a world where LGBTQIA people were accepted without legislation harming us.

Yeah, the policing and enforcement of 'gender norms' expression has been so scary. So many of the state legislatures are already doing strange dress codes (women can't show their upper arms, because apparently it means legislation can't be argued?) towards their own members-it's just a continuing terrifying time in the cultural zeitgeist.

I was pleased to see Trixie so aware of her own privilege and position in terms of this legislature when compared to transgender individuals, people of color, and even those who simply are not making as much money as she is. Very astute

Huge respect to your mother, Trixie. My family chose my religion at birth. Now that I’m an adult and have found I disagree with the values and practices of the church, I am an atheist and it’s been quite alienating to deal with. I never want my child to go through that though. Allowing your child a choice in their religion is a great thing and should be much more normalized

My little brother is trans and we live in Texas, so I'm always scared when he goes somewhere without me. 💔 It's so sad that this is happening and I hope things can change soon. Thank you for making this video, and the telethon was such a great idea! I can't wait 🥳🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ you're amazing, and thanks for always brightening my day!

i also did not grow up religious, and always felt grateful for it. however, i was the only person i knew without a religion my entire life which made me so confused by people's bigotry that stemmed from that
