Great video on rise and fall indicator use. I've watched it a few times now. I have a rookie slipjoint maker question. I've made a few, with a lot of trial and error, and I've run into the same problem each time. When I use my rise and fall indicator I don't know how to best translate the exact blade and spring placement to my scales. Should I drill the holes in my scales first and then match them to the rise and fall indicator? When I do mine I have been making the blade and spring first. Then I fine tune the tang for open and closed position on the RFI, then I take the finished parts and attempt to put them together on a liner and scales, but I can't ever seem to get the exact fit that I had on the RFI, so the spring kicks up or the closed position is off a little. What am I missing?

It's definitely a little tricky. I've since started using a RFI fixture that matches the pin layout on my liners/covers and pre-tensions the blade while measuring. You do see a small difference otherwise, if you're measuring an un-tensioned backspring.

Very informative Andrew! I’m gonna say half open, I tend to lean towards optimism 😉 for now (seeing as how I’m just starting in blades) I’m gonna stick with fixed😅👊

Very good! How many mm of pressure in the spring.

I’m not sure, but you can remove a little steel from just in front of the middle pin hole if you need to lighten your slipjoint tension.

The overall tool is a rise/fall indicator, or sometimes called a ruple gauge or ruple jig. The indicator used in the tool is a dial indicator.
