    It’s nice to have a slip joint maker on TH-cam that takes the time to share “the how to’s” with beginners. Not too many around that do. Thanks again Chris.

    Watching your video again I realized to get everything lined up you can simply put the bottom piece in chuck, lower it into the aluminum block in the vise, tighten the vise. Remove the bottom piece from chuck and place in aluminum block then the upper head spinner place in chuck should be perfectly aligned to the bottom piece.
    This would simplify alignment.

    I bet a little Flitz on the head and lightly polishing it with the head spinner would shine them up.

      Yes. They're great for any type of handle material that's not flat. They work on flat material also, but I prefer to grind my pins flat on smooth scales.

    Great video, would it not be easier to hold the polishing bits in the mill so they can’t walk?

    • @cfcrawfordyout
      @cfcrawfordyout  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. That might be easier, but since the tips are smaller than the pin heads, you will still need to rotate something around in all directions. So I guess you could either have the polishing pin stationary, or have the handle stationary. For me, I think it's easier to have the handle stationary. One thing that helps is to get one of the dremel burs that I mentioned it the video, and use it to go ahead and cup the polishing pin. This makes it a lot easier to keep the polishing pin on the knife pin.

    Excellent video! thanks I might have to have a go at making the kit. What speed are you running the mill at?

    • @cfcrawfordyout
      @cfcrawfordyout  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question... I run it at about medium speed on my mini mill. I'm not really sure what RPM that comes out to. I don't think it really matters that much though.

  • @Joe_Bandit

    Great video, thanks! So the pocket in the spinner is just a bit bigger than the pin stock? Does it need to cup the entire final pin head size?

    • @cfcrawfordyout
      @cfcrawfordyout  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joe. Yes, the cup is slightly larger than the pin diameter. For a 3/32" pin, the spinner will make about an 1/8" head.

    How do you set pins in a boot knife where you don’t want to cut in to the handle material?

    • @cfcrawfordyout
      @cfcrawfordyout  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might could leave the pins longer and go ahead and peen a head on them and lock them into place. Then you might could use the spinners to clean up the heads, but being careful not cut into the scales.

    Hi Chris. Have you used this technique on a smooth scale?

    • @chriscrawford5392
      @chriscrawford5392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. I usually just grind the pins in smooth scales flush, but I'd imagine it would work just the same.

    Hi what is the cost and can you send to South Africa

    • @cfcrawfordyout
      @cfcrawfordyout  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The basic kit comes with one set of spinners, and it goes for $100. You can add additional sets of spinners for $50 each, and I have three different sizes available. The different spinner sets are for 1/16", 3/32", and 1/18" pins. Shipping would be whatever it cost to get it to SA. I do ship world wide, but can't guarantee the delivery, once the package has left the US.
