For any of the newer members of Jon's channel, I will vouch for both the tournament and cash game masterclass. Great program with Quick lessons followed up by quizzes that test what you've learned. If you don't do well during a lesson or two. Don't sweat it!! Retake the lesson, retake the quiz until you understand it. If learned so much from Jon and still have a lot to learn but I'm getting better everyday, and that's what matters! Blessed!
Studying poker is the best thing there is. It helps me relax, i can combine it with my kids at home. I learn thing I dont know. It gives me inspiration and motivation to poker. It gives me confidence, because during study I find out again and again I already know a lot. I struggle a little bit more in play poker enough because it is much harder to combine with rest of live (family, work, etc).
Your advice about logically finding a reason to strengthen the desire to study was life changing. I honestly had never thought about doing that and was encountering frequent mental blocks where I would still want to study but couldn't fully motivate myself. Thank you so much for sharing that advice.
23:30 , 24:22 That boils it down to the reality about POKER. I've read dozens of books about peak performance and personal development and I found everything you said in this video to correlate with so many concepts about human behavior and skill mastery. Great video
Jonathan, all your presentations are so informative and relaxing that i could listen to them all day. Nice to see a poker pro home with his family. It was so funny when you were talking to your son. You are a great person.
You are amazing. Instead of “poker” you can insert any other subject. I used to tell my law students similar advice. “You need to set aside at least 2-3 hours of study for every hour of class time.” You have to concentrate and set aside the time otherwise you will not pass my class.
I would say the answer as to why you would want to teach others how to play, even though you are "making it harder on yourself" is that you enjoy the challenge, if there is no challenge it gets boring. I love to play with people who constantly put me into tough spots, it teaches me a lot more about what I need to work on. I even thank people for being strong players and tell them I appreciate playing with people who put me in the tough spots.
About the Luck apsect.. My favorite game is Blood Bowl which is a dice based football board game. A lot of players who don't win much refuse to study dice math and always simply blame luck for their victories and losses. I have learned that playing and trusting the odds is the foundation of good play. Great play comes from ignoring those rules, but only after mastering their use. The small amount of Poker I have been studying shows parallels that can't be ignores. "Luck is what happens when we take statistics personally"
I come from NFT world and am getting into poker. Got a good chuckle from the NFT part of this video haha! It's been a rough ride but there's 100% still thriving communities over there ✊
About two yers ago I tried getting good at poker by studying hard. Did all the homework range-assignments on pokercoaching and the cash game master class. But still got super beat on online micro-stakes because it felt like another type of game. Almost everyone being very straightforward and calling down to showdown with a pair of eights etc. So lost everytime I tried bluffing drawing hands for example, if the opponent had a marginal hand he would call down, if he didn't have anything he would have folded to a small bet on the flop, no matter my range. Now I'm watching some of Charlie Carrels stuff where he says kind of "At micro stakes, don't care about your range. Your opponent's don't understnad that. Think about your actual hand and about their range." Is there a certain time or level or stake where the "actual" game of poker starts, where it gets more important to balance your ranges and stuff like that? It felt like I learnt A LOT at pokercoaching, but it didn't really apply to the super low stakes I was playing at. Am I just bad at adjusting to my opponents?
Players at microstakes bluff way too little and call down too wide. They don't want to get bluffed, they'd rather pay your value hands. And if they do raise / reraise, you have to expect them to be very strong like two pair or better mostly. Especially on later streets, river raise is ALMOST NEVER a bluff and you have to have near nuts to call there. Any aggressive action means usually strong hand. This also gives you chance for thin value, if you bet at river they will call with weak hands and raise with strong hands so you can quite confidently fold if facing aggression. Or if you want them to fold, you have to bet big to give enough pressure... And they still might end up calling. Of course this is just a generalization, in reality there are several types of players whose playstyles vary wildly from each other, so you also have to pay attention whatever everyone is doing. At higher levels players have kind of base level from which they vary their plays, but at lower stakes anything can happen.
@@emilpettersson4509 I made my own rule about bluffing at micro stakes. I don't properly bluff till they see me with nuts at showdown a couple of times. Only after that I feel I can actually bluff some boards. They can see my stats and realize I do bluff occasionally, but who's doing that? Who cares about "fold to c-bet" ratio? Not them. Of course, if I'm facing tighter players I'll start stealing blinds way earlier for example. But if there's a loose cannon, I make sure they blow up against my very strong hand at showdown first. Or bluff pots that cannon is absent from. By default I don't believe im my luck. I can't draw backdoor or gutshot. Until I actually do by checking down to river. Once I show it, only then my draw hand bluff will look real enough to them.
Jonathan I was wondering what, if any, knowledge you have regarding Strattera. I've been recently diagnosed as ADHD ( high functioning). Strattera was mentioned specifically and I said I would consider. What are your thoughts ? Let me know when you can. Thank You
I've never heard someone say the same thing about games that i do, "Whats the point of playing if you don't want to be the best" I've never cared about playing a game if i couldnt make it to the top
i'm getting started again after a few years off and i intend to stick to it and become a winning player, thinking about getting coaching...which one is better? upswing, runitonce or pokercoaching? am i missing another one?
Sooo All I'm hearing 10 minutes in is what to do while ur studying....... or before you study. I'm trying to figure out what "studying" even MEANS in the context of poker.... What exactly am I studying? Is it software? A book? I don't understand. Do I need a solver to study?
@Jonathan LIttle rough guess: what % of poker players must one be in to make a solid $150,000 / year at either live cash or MTT? Is that like a top 1% player or what?
10 years from now: Principle: Mr. Little, your son has been running an illegal poker game. JL: Oh, well boys will be boys. Principle: Mr. Little! I have angry parents claiming your son took all their money. JL: What was the rake? Principle: WHAT! JL: What?
After watching over 60 hours of your videos and trying to implement the style of play you teach it doesn't work. It would work against poker players but most of the poker community aren't players, they are idiots that call large raises in any position with 5 2 off after way too many rum and cokes and somehow destroy me time and time again. When you play against a constant stream of muppets it makes winning a flip once or ten times in a tourney irrelevant as the moment you win one hand the next idiot is already there ready to shove with their j2 off. Yes the escape is to pay a much higher entry to escape the idiots but then that makes me question the gto as a whole.....let's chat

The "game" is always happening, but your opponents' ranges may be different at various stakes.
Normal players start at nl25 for online

Yeah the 4 bet defense against my 3 bets in zoom poker is really annoying completely kills my play and everyone does it after 50 nl lol
Obviously because I 3 bet with a wide range frequently
