I don't have epilepsy but from 0:18 - 0:30 I thought something was wrong with my eyes because I had it full screen and the video was blurry. Took me a few seconds to realise that the blur was there because of the editing, and not my eyes deteriorating.
Don't forget you can get our brand new album Modern Synthesis on 12" vinyl, deluxe CD, digitally or stream it anywhere from here: area11.lnk.to/MS Hope you like it!
Thank you for the warning for flashing images at the beginning of this video, it's much appreciated! Still awesome to listen to, and the entire album is brilliant! I love having Override [C] to add to [A] and [B], and Watchmaker is my favorite of all. Well done!
Ordered the vinyl as soon as I knew I could after release. I still think ATLITS is slightly better but that might just be because this album is a bit slower in pace and all that, still I love it and I love you guys so keep up the good work and I shall keep crying about how it's basically impossible for me to ever get to any of your tours :/
i love the idea that they are all wearing all black so there must have been an email like "guys dont forget we are doing the vid so wear ONLY black" and parv went "meh.... im sure a gray patten will be fine sparkles wont mind..."
Remember all the lights in the stars? and Override A? What if Versus was the idea of whoever got overridden was fighting back? -and then subsequently lost. and Contract is literally the contract after said person lost their mind
I can't believe I've been sitting here listening to area 11 while playing trove for 5 hours straight and I'm still finding a lot of their songs I haven't found before. So far none of them have been bad in the slightest
Evan Hocking Honestly, it's just because of the chorus. It's extremely powerful and very catchy, atop an extremely intense big instrumental (as usual) from the crew. In all honestly, I felt like Sparkles was a tad out of his zone in Red Queen, but the band and it's musicians are so sharp and so strong with their instruments that it goes practically unnoticed.
The chorus is outstanding, if the verses kept up the same intensity and emotional energy then it would defo be the best. For me Panacea is the best one.

Ahh what a fabulous day to receive my copy of the album in the mail, also seems Sparkles was channeling a bit of Peter Garret with his dancing at times during the clip.
I've been a fan since the Radio Sparkles* days and loved the band to bits. I kinda stopped listening over a year ago and I've started to listen to their music again and oops. I'm hooked on their music once again.
Ugh I'm gonna spray my film studies nerddom all over this. I just love the mise-en-scene and especially the use of lighting temperature in this. It's filmed in saturated colours to increase the emphasis of white on and darkness to contrast one another. Now that could easily be unspectacular, sort of like the Versus video with less head bobbin', but the video is punctuated by these occasional bursts of colour. But not just colour! Bright yellow background with an orange for ground which is almost fiery! This contrasts amazingly with the sombre and stark colours and makes the whole things visually interesting. Worth mentioning also is the great use of the flashing light at 2:39 in particular where it flashes in time to the riff, punctuating each note. At this point in the video I was starting to feel like the use of bright colour was too infrequent, that it needed more to really make it work. And that's when it happened. The song enters it's lull; the lull that all great songs need to have, the lull which is like the 3rd Act of a story that's building to the climax. Suddenly the whole thing is in those same warm colours, and its not even just the colours which are warm! Sparks are flying too! A use of props which adds to the sensation of heat and passion which the music and lighting was already evoking. Just fantastic! And here's the best bit: around this time Sparkles* spins what is supposed to appear to be his microphone but is actually a pyrotechnic prop expelling sparks. Pretty cool right? Wrong, its epic and really clever. The use of reversing the footage so the sparks fly back onto the props works perfectly with the music which is at its most tender, gentle, and reflective point. They've used spot on lighting temperature, employed through a prop, in conjunction with close ups all to the emotional timing of the music. I cannot tell how brilliant all this is! It's a four minute video and there's so much to talk about after watching it only a couple of times. To summarise the whole thing is a phrase: f*cking spot on.
All valid points, but at the end of the day it's just not a great music video. Watching the band play the song from different angles is just lazy filmmaking. There's no little to no creativity when making such a music video. Video is supposed to show how true artists can think outside the box and do something memorable and interesting. The reason "Gangnam Style" is so popular is because Psy was moving around the frame and popping up in different ways. Viewers didn't know what to expect next. With this video all I was waiting for was the next lighting cue to happen. The song was good, but the video was literally a C+ product with some flashy material to make it look better than it is.
Bear in mind their budget is microscopic compared to most musicians and thus a comparison to Gangnam style is utterly absurd. When you have nothing but lights, a camera, your instruments, and one pyrotechnic prop its impressive that they created something that was impressive not because it was bombastic and random enough to evoke a laugh, but one which fit the tone of the song and made it stylistically interesting. Plus the song is worlds away from the tone of Gangnam Style which is deliberately over the top for the sake of irony. This is about enhancing the effects of The Contract.
Geordie Bailey Yes, a bigger budget allows for better perks, but one could do something really amazing with a camera and a couple of lights. Have you ever seen some of Area !!'s sketches? They are pretty creative, and that is just using a camera. The video is still cool, but it is nothing special or worth 20 million views.
Yeah, I agree. Area 11's music videos have always been about simplicity and emphasizing the music and tone rather than a) emphasizing the lyrics or b) making a new story entirely. I think this style of MV is a great visual addition to the song.
This is my fave track off Modern Synthesis, seems like the closest sound to All the Lights in the Sky. To be honest, ATLITS is almost impossible to beat, every track is astounding and it has lived permanently in my Car CD player since it was released.
I grew up with this band (well, age 9 to now 13) and i'm so proud of how far they've come! the first album was amazing, but modern synthesis is a masterpiece
I got the new album in the mail the other day and immediately started playing it on loop for several days on end, much like I did with AtLitS. Amazing work, guys! My favourite song on Modern Synthesis is probably Red Q-- wait no, Proc-- no, no, no, Panacea and the Pr-- AW FUCK THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME! Also those eyes man... sparkly~
Panacea is so soft and graceful they would have to make the video sparkles* or Leo(cuz he's the best) looking out of a car window dramatically the entire time.
I think I just had epilepsy... But it was worth it!
My favorite song off the album
every time I watch this I'm just going comment saying I love this so much ❤😥
Still a banger of a tune
the best song in this album
Omg this song gives me goosebumps....
I wasn't ready for this.
This is my favourite song from the new album. Awesome video
I don't have epilepsy but from 0:18 - 0:30 I thought something was wrong with my eyes because I had it full screen and the video was blurry. Took me a few seconds to realise that the blur was there because of the editing, and not my eyes deteriorating.
Fuck I forgot how good Area 11 was
Out off them After the Flags is my favourite =D
So good!
yEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Ahhh yes. I'm loving this.
Red Queen, Nebula, Angel Lust, and Panacea all need videos this instant!
Probably my 4 favourites on the album :)
ALL OF THEM NEED MUSIC VIDEOS
Yeas those are the best
processor too
Red Queen, closely followed by Angel Lust, are definitely the best on the album imo.

What one is [B]?

Ordered the vinyl as soon as I knew I could after release. I still think ATLITS is slightly better but that might just be because this album is a bit slower in pace and all that, still I love it and I love you guys so keep up the good work and I shall keep crying about how it's basically impossible for me to ever get to any of your tours :/
I'm loving this song!
I fucking love this song.
That was amazing!

So what you feel, is it nostalgia or love?
For some reason the angsty sparks bit of this video amuses me so much

Yes I totally agree

I prefer processor but red queen is still need the top.
The chorus is outstanding, if the verses kept up the same intensity and emotional energy then it would defo be the best. For me Panacea is the best one.
I would personally say after the flags, but thats one thing i love about this album. they're all so f***ing good.
YES YES YES YES THIS NEEDED A MUSIC VIDEO
Just wondering how are you verified if you have 110 subs?

That bassline is so damn enthralling.
the blue and orange scenes look great juxtaposed together
Red Queen and Processor are my fav songs

Wow, I didn't know they had cells in the back of HMV!
