    I THANK you so much for this video. You asked us to leave comments on if you've had to pay a repairman to fix the light seals, here I am to report. I have a Nikon EM camera that i've had since the early 2000's while taking a photography class. I bought the camera from a seller on Craigslist for $40 with a camera case included, both were in pristine shape. So after developing some film a couple of months straight I noticed white streaks on prints, however my photo class was ending so I boxed it up and forgot about it until last week. I took it in to a local camera shop June 25, 2018 and they reviewed the camera for 2 mins and said everything was perfect, but it needed light seals replaced, the price was $45. That was more than the camera itself and more than those sold online today. Okay, I said, "I'll have to bring it back." I knew I needed to get home to find a TH-camr making videos on this simple fix, and there you were, YOU brought SUNSHINE to my life. Thank you greatly!!! I already have everything you listed right in my own home except for the seals since I'm a crafter myself. I'll order those seals and fix it with your excellent video, Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhh!

    Dude, I have an Olympus Mju I (Stylus) with the exact same light leak in the exact same spot. Thank you so much for making this video. Really helped me out!

    It was suggested to me that one strand of black yarn works.I tried it,and if the seal is in a channel it worked well.There was enough residual glue to hold it in,and it doesn't break down like the foam.

    Did the light seal foam on the door help you get rid of the first leak you were showing in the video (I have the exact ones)? I've read it's actually the lens fixture letting in some light.

      @@ShawneeUnion I repaired the top light seal just like you did. I have a film in there now, I can’t wait to see if it’s ok. I’ve had the mju since the mid 90’s. Long may it last!

    Did you used 1mm or 2mm for the Olympus? I have the same and it's light leaking.

    • @ShawneeUnion
      @ShawneeUnion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would go 1mm or 1.5mm even if you go a little too thick it will compress over time.

    fix today a canon ae1 very hard job but it need to be done, on the long narrow rail i found very hard to place the glued part in place so i just accept the result at the end...when it closed it's get "fatty" at the beginning but then its seals perfectly. ill get a film to see if is ok...hope so . thanks for the video

    Hi, I’m having an issue with my mju i/mju stylus where I’m getting light leaks, like on your first photo, would this solve the problem?

    • @ShawneeUnion

      I think it would. You could always try and see.

    I'm asking a lot people who post videos on light seal replacement.
    What do you think about using soft(Duro 40) neoprene rubber or black 100% wool or cotton yarn. There is a product (G-S Hypo Cement) that uses a hypodermic needle to apply a precise application to the narrow camera light seal channels. This seems like solution that will not rot over time like some of the adhesive backed foams will. They are also not as fragile.
    What do you think?

    • @ShawneeUnion
      @ShawneeUnion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I’m not a fan of yarn, it flakes in weird ways and doesn’t stay put. Soft rubber could work if you cut it thin. I stick by foam with an adhesive backing, it was how most cameras were designed and degrades over decades. It does degrade badly though.

    Would this work for olympus stylus infinity my view finder is showing orange light & flash is not working Can this caused this

    • @ShawneeUnion
      @ShawneeUnion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not. Sounds like a electronic issue. I love these cameras but they can die very suddenly ☹️

  • @AlbertoZaccaria
    @AlbertoZaccaria 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    but what if they come from the lens?

    • @ShawneeUnion
      @ShawneeUnion  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question, I’ve actually never seen that type of leak before. I guess it could happen but more likely the light leak seals are going bad.

    Material costs + labor fees.. Makes sense to just let the camera shop fix it.

    • @ShawneeUnion
      @ShawneeUnion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the amount of cameras I buy it’s cost effective. Shipping is a factor too
