I used to have these tapes in my house when i was a kid in the 80's. I never knew where they came from or what they were for. I watched them all the time pretending to drive. Thanks for the nostalgia.
I like how sega among other game company’s did make clever use of the vcr deck to interact with digital devices like this, i absolutely give them credit to use such budget alternative way for peoples on a budget who just can’t effort them selves a high expensive game console ,,, Believe me, if i would,ve seen such device when i was 5 years old, i would,ve been mind blown away.
Yeah at the very least its a clever way to use the tech, it actually really reminds me of that Tomy Turbo Dashboard toy but with a video element to it, 5 year old me would definitely agree with 5 year old you!
You could probably make your own games for this system. Just fit a dashcam in your car, film some footage then use a video editing program to add the white bars for scoring.
I've owned it for a few years. I got it in used condition from abroad and had to repair some internal gears to make it work.Imagine the kids of these age, watching and playing this for the first time! Very good cooperation of the 2 companies (Sega and Tyco). By the way, would you be able to send me the scans of the instructions so I can print them because mine are missing?
I think it's pretty much unused, all the packaging was still in the box for example and there are stickers for permanently attaching it to a screen which haven't been used
Happy to see that retro video console. I own one of this, but i have lost the instruction manual. Can you please send me some scans of the instruction manual?
VHS gaming is not the same thing as arcade gaming because even those light gun games the ones that are linear where everything stays the same each time still had interactivity like shooting a barrel blew it up or missing somebody you get shot and you die there are different animations and FX and things that happen where is the VHS gaming literally changes nothing each time, I guess the best way to describe it would be there's no visual feedback from the game and these consoles and devices had to rely on external hardware to emit sound and in this case move a little car around
I vividly remember seeing this in an Argos catalogue way back in the late 80s. I was absolutely blown away back then as I thought ''An arcade game with REAL graphics?'' I really twisted my parent's arm to get me one but they said to me ''No. Its for those who can't afford a Nintendo or a Sega''. Obviously I was rather upset. Later on that year in a well-known toy shop, they had a demo unit on show and the assistant let me have a go on it. How dull the actual 'game' (if you can call it that) was.
haha, yeah it's pretty big, although to be fair its only that one tiny part thats the sensor, the rest of the bar is more of a transport system for it, it's a simple but very clever design
ello ello whats this old bean? another new video? i must say i need tea crumpets. spare any cigs? no? ah bloody hell and nuggets and all that rubish lol lol
Never really liked crumpets to be honest, a good English muffin is more my style, quit smoking years ago, can't argue with the tea though, not sure what the nuggets thing is about though? lol
@@ReplayRetro you daid nuggets when your mad. remember the attack of the clone. i dont remember which one but you said nuggets.and i dont smoke either im making a joke, love the retro replay
Yeah that last game is awful, i didn't think you could make a game noticeably worse than others on a format like this but it's all the jumping around between different camera angles and different shots, as a result you never know where the heck you are in that game. i can't for the life of me understand why someone did that instead of just a constant shot as used in the other games
@@ReplayRetro "i can't for the life of me understand why someone did that instead of just a constant shot as used in the other games" I agree. Just the onboard cockpit camera all the time will be fine. I can do a better job with my Lego. Come to think of it. Wouldn't it be cool if I could a game with a Lego GT on the car "Road Avenger" gameplay style.
One of the most underrated channels on TH-cam. Keep it up Matt. Hello from Canada.
aww, you're far too kind, thanks
I still dont underatand how this channel gets so little attention it is amazing and does videos on systems you cant find any where else
Thank you very much Ray, that's really nice of you to say, maybe one day lol
The consoles they came up with in the 80s and 90s absolutely brilliant. Great video. Thanks.
yeah they had some great ideas, really inventive stuff even if it didn't always succeed, i'd love to know what other plans for VHS stuff Sega had

How strange that you only had the tapes, but yeah, now you know what you missed out on I guess
Thanks for the shoutout. My girlfriend and I are happy to have a new channel to binge on. :)
haha, glad you approve, hope you enjoy your binge :)
we had this, was quite fun as a kid

Same here
Sega did what Nintendon't!
holy shit am I happy to find this channel
WOW!!! you have the CAR BODYS from Police Pursuit and Road Racer!!! :) These are very rare and i have nothing seen on eBay! very nice!

big thx for your really great videos,Matt! 👍👍👍
Thanks for the kinda words, glad you enjoy them :)
I feel how this channel feels. We don't get the views because we're not unboxing an iPhone 14 XRMMX Pro, or talking about Cardi B.

I actually wanted this game device as a kid. I think even for those days I’d be disappointed after an hour of playing. Great review though.
Steering wheel is removable to make it easier to get into and out of the car.

What is retail price.for1989 tyco
I had this game, loads of fun!!!
Thank god the wheel didn't land on THIS... thing. Not even Rich Evans could save an episode featuring this.
He’s forgetting the VCR Casino VHS games
That is one big sensor bar! Of course, that was a long time before the Wii came out!

You’re gonna review the View-Master Interactive Vision aren’t you?
maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe
What a novel idea for a game
First YAY!! Im a big fan thanks for the content.
and thanks to you for watching the content :)
What does it matter if it chews tapes up they are worthless anyways

ahh yeah i do remember that actually, though it was a Toby Turner reference i believe ;)
@@ReplayRetro hahaha
I asked for a sega mega drive for xmas one year and got this instead
Not bad any Sega console was a godsend.
The 3rd game is the worse of the 3. I don't know what race class it is. I Think 2 different ones. The black car has a diffuser and the red one doesn't

i don't find these vhs systems very appealing to be honest.
Your belt buckle is VERY distracting!
