I moved to New Mexico in 1995. Recently, I had to move away to a nearby State for work, but when I finally moved back I heard this song driving the Uhaul. I cried like a baby, I was so happy to be back in New Mexico.

....you should make it for Northern New Mexico, in fact the lyrics should say, arriba Nuevo Mejico NORTE. It depicts the regionalism so overwhelming created by the founding people of northern New Mexico. What there are no cities in Southern New Mexico that meet the criteria? There are no Chicanos in Roswell, Carlsbad, Alamogordo, Hobbs, Ruidoso, Lovington, Artesia? In the whole song, Roberto only mentions one southern city, Las Cruces ( I guess cause its the 3rd biggest city in NM) but goes as far as mention Belen a small liittle community, much much smaller and with a smaller Chicano population than say...Portales or Clovis. I understand your glorious glee to make it a state song, but wait till you guys succeed from the southern part okay?

So I guess I am a little New Mexican 😂 I only have been to New Mexico once and saw very little but the little I saw was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. This song is indeed my roots in New Mexico. My Grandparents, Parents and my siblings were all born in the Great State of New Mexico in various villages like: Villanueva, Anton Chico, Pastura, Vaughn, Puerto De Luna, Las Vegas and of course, SANTA ROSA.
My maternal gr-grandmother Susanita Archuleta (maiden name) d. in early 70s, was from Puerto de Luna...I was in Vegas circa '67 at highlands, and everyone of those places u mentioned I knew many of my age group from there...My best friends were Marcella Fresques from Mora and her husband Huero Sanchez from vegas. albq hope u are still alive and well. I remember getting my haircut by his brothers Jim and Leo Griego as a kid. My dad was friends with them as they grew up together in Southern NM. I met Roberto as a young boy when this album came out and he gave my dad a copy.
