    hi guys :) it's been a while. thank you for always supporting me while I was away. there have been many life changes over the past 4 years, but sometimes I would read thru the comments you've left on my videos and it made me so happy. i miss creating content for yall so much. tbh i went to san diego a month ago and ran into the sweetest subscriber, and honestly that was the final push that made me come back. so i'm back :)
    even though studying cognitive science in college is slowly becoming a distant part of my past, it remains the best decision I ever made, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. so as a testament to that I will continue to document my life with you all on this channel - successes, failures, and everything in between.
    lmk if you have anything you’re curious about - but wherever direction my channel goes now, i'll strive to continue creating valuable content for you and hope to create a safe space where we can openly support each other.
    thank you all for being here

      good to see you back! im also interested in cognitive science and engineering, so it would be really helpful if you covered something about how u came up with your college essay and made it relevant to your interest

    I just found your account and cogsci seems soo interesting, I loved the way you explained the major in your videos. I have a couple of questions, does cogsci allow you to focus on research, in the sense of coming up with new ways we can function better in our society? Should I get a neuroscience phd for this? What I mean is, for instance, creating new models for learning a language by conducting a study, are things like that possible with this degree, or is it necessary that I connect it with the neuronal studying of the brain in an advanced degree? I think what I would most like to do is research and experimental studies based on the mind and cognition. What should I do? (Also your videos are so aesthetically pleasing and cozyyyy)

      Hii omg thank you for the sweet words and for watching, sorry for the late response on this! in my opinion it's totally possible - actually a lot of the classes that I took revolved around studying research just like that, a lot of experimental studies. several of my cogsci classmates did research while they were in undergrad as well and some went on to research for masters/phd. it's definitely a very common and natural path :)

    Wait so I'd have to go into Berkley undeclared to take the prerequisites?

    • @KarenSupandi
      @KarenSupandi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Everyone who gets accepted to the College of L&S at Berkeley is undeclared, and you'd have to take pre-req's during your first couple of semesters to declare your major!

      @@KarenSupandi Do you have any personal essay tips for someone who's interested in declaring cognitive science as their major?

    • @KarenSupandi
      @KarenSupandi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jonesg351 Ah this is a very good question. To be perfectly honest I don't have firsthand experience, I went into Berkeley thinking I would do computer science so I did one of my essays on that. But the other three were about my extracurriculars!
      In general I think a good rule of thumb is to reflect on why you want to major in cogsci - as in what about it intrigues you and what life experiences you've had that made you interested in studying the human mind. That way your essay will be uniquely YOU, which will help you stand out :)
      I hope this makes sense! And good luck!
