The Xbox version does some amazing things with textures. However, in the N64 version, the characters are more expressive and a lot of the movements are more fluid. It just goes to show that powerful hardware does not equate to better storytelling.

totally agree... it's quite noticeable that whoever worked on the xbox version just focused on making the game edgier... the textures are off and makes the game lack of the cartoony look that makes it so expressive... i mean, the tedizz were meant to look like creepy zombie teddy bears... instead they just made them look "agresive"... when you see a demonic teddy bear smoking a cigar ready to unleash full fire power From a stationary machine gun,that's the good stuff, but when the bear is just an angry bear... meh
There’s small details that make me like the N64 version. I mean despite being more realistic in the Xbox version the animation just looks more fluid in the n64 version. Plus there’s small details like in the beginning cutscene conked is just holding a glass of milk instead of a chalice. I mean if you mushed the fluffiness and realism of the Xbox animation and the small details and the fluid-ness n64 you’d have a perfect version.

I guess I'm in the minority cause I grew up with these graphics being amazing. Between the N64/PSOne/Saturn this was the best looking open world game of that generation. The particle effects, facial animations, textures, draw distance, character detail, and frame rate are godly for N64. This game takes me back to a better time

The N64 original clearly had better artistic design. Bad Fur Day had a lot of time and care put into it for a N64 Rareware game. It was a giant thank you to the N64 and gamers who gave them so much success that gen. Rare split up after the N64

The animation is lacking in the Xbox version. Sure the Xbox version has pretty textures but it's not at stylized and cartoony as N64 version and falls flat with the characters. Just look at how conker's tail flicks up when he is sitting in the thrown. More effort and better camera angles make the n64 superior.

How does the original look better? Sure, the Xbox version has better visuals, but the animations are so much better on the N64. Plus in the original Conker doesn't have ugly shorts and naked hands.
I know the xbox version looks better but theres something special about the n64 version...just knowing how this game pushed the n64 to its outer limits with very amazing facial expressions with great and funny character voices...the amount of cutscens with actual voices are so vast in this game and they are of great quality.....trully a masterpieace for its time, this and resident evil 2 on the n64 proved that the system could do everything the playstation could and then some....but it takes a really good game developer to be able to create such games like this....even today the sound and graphics are top notch, they dont really seem dated like most games do from that generation..

Ok right off the bat the Xbox devs seem to not realize that the opening scene is referencing A Clockwork Orange. The N64 version imitates the cinematography of the movie much better.
The character designs in Live & Reloaded honestly lacked the charm the originals had. The originals were much more cartoony and stylized, which fit well with the Looney Tunes aesthetic.
It's amazing how much character the N64 has. The timing for the intro was a lot better too, especially with the first shot being really in your face. The voice acting's hilarious though. I love that the Xbox version didn't change a thing about the dialogue. It also has that live TV show feel with the rain against the glass effect.
About the voice acting, it might not change directly, but it's way more censored. but the only and really bad thing about the xbox version is the multiplayer. The multiplayer in Conkers BFD was just awesome with friends and acutally even without. It's a shame they put that out.
True. There were some awesome moments that lost their impact in the censorship. I wish Microsoft really took their time with Live and Reloaded. I know nothing can replace BFD but it still would've been a good revival if the subtle details were given a bit more attention.
I might be crazy but I enjoyed the Xbox version more then N64 one. I still really enjoyed the N64 version but, for such a dark game it was filled up with bright colors. The Xbox version looked more darker which fitted with the game very well. I loved the new graphical style and the overall better look of the game and the attention to detail. How in the original war level Conker was only wearing a helmet but in the Xbox version the whole outfit changed, how they added fur to the fured animals, how the rain dropped on the camera, how in the original war commercial it was in color while on the Xbox version was in black and white to fit the war felling etc... Yes I know it was censored. But the original was too. Not as much but still. But I thought that the Bip stood out more then just the word alone. I mean sometimes the characters said a bad word but it didn't really standout because of the music and stuff. But when you hear a clear '"Bip" with no music in the background it;s obvious. Which made it more funnier for me. Again that's just an opinion.
THe game wasnt that darker, it was more mature in other way, thw bright colors represent the fun things, the game of humor, not a dark story, in the castle the rain wasnt represented, the outfit thing same thing, doesnt represent what it was.

I bought this game when it first came out. Soley because the place I was working at sold all but one copy the day it was released. I picked it up and fell in love during the opening scene. As soon as I heard the music…a chill came over me as goose bumps quickly came about. Then I saw the close up and called my friend to tell him to buy it. He took my word and chased around Green Bay for almost 2 hours until he found the last copy at Best Buy. Best intro ever…
The xbox version is an abomination.The very first shot is a nod to clockwork orange and is too zoomed out on the xbox.The textures on his face are bad and stiff, everyone surrounding the throne is standing still and even the textures on the throne are all wrong.I just bought a conker statue and even they went with the n64 look.

Its xbox classic not xbox one. Anyway i like the xbox classic presentation as far as the controls and cameras go. I just keep the 64 version for collector purposes. It seems too slippery on the 64 as far as controls go and alot of glitches like its not really finished.

Amazing how despite having better graphics, the characters don't look as lively in the Xbox version. Their animations were more fluid and imaginative in the N64 one which gave them more of a personality, plus some small things like say the great mighty poo not having moving eyes in the Xbox also took away from them looking alive. Also them censoring stuff in a M rated game just made no sense considering that m rated games have only used cussing more and more since the original version. I never did play the remake, nor either versions' multiplayer modes, but I'm sure the single player is practically the same. Still I don't like how they made Conker not duel wield during the saving private rian and matrix parody parts. It made him look less badass. :( Like most, I like the original better, and just wish that they could've made a proper remake. There are only two successful N64 ports for the 360 that I'm aware of: Banjo Kazooie which had only differences in the HUD icons, rest was basically playing on an emulator lol and Perfect Dark XBLA, where you had a few tiny fixes like those pills made everything except you slow down whereas in the N64 you slowed done too and was pretty much useless, and then only better models and textures. Effects, animations and so-on were the exact same. If GoldenEye XBLA wasn't cancelled it would've been a perfect port too. D: I mean the main point of the original was to be as adult as possible and parody a shit ton of things, little changes like the only using on gun ruined part of the matrix part, not drinking the milk at the beginning ruined the Clockwork Orange reference, and so on. :P Now I'm not completely hating on the Xbox version, at time it does look better and it has a better framerate, and I'm not being one of those guys only goes with their childhood things or whatever, I saw the Xbox first, but played the N64 and found it to be the better game. It's okay if you prefer the Xbox version, but just respect us who find the N64 version to be the better one....which it is better in certain parts of the game. Both have pros and cons.
this is the first time i've seen what the Xbox version is like and i agree with everything you just said! it's not only the fluid movements, it's also the expressions on Conker's face. it makes you wonder what Rare was thinking when they remade the game.
The graphics are certainly better on the newer console, but it's painfully obvious how lazy of a remake this is. Just watch that opening scene. Once we get to Conker, there's just so much going on there with the way the scene is presented. The zoom up on his face, the drinking of the milk, and the panning out with his "friends" all moving about organically. On the HD side, he's just sort of... sitting there in some lazy idle animation. The N64 side is more intricately choreographed like a movie scene.
At the time of recording this video (which was all the way back in 2008) this was the best I got from the N64 emulator on the Xbox. I'm sure if you emulate this game on a PC now it will give you a much better result.
I have both and only what N64 was better is local coop and sloprano ost. Other is still better on xbox in most i prefer fixed control. On N64 sometime was bad

I can definitely see your point. I recently finished the N64 version uprezzed to 1080p via Rare Replay on XBOX ONE and I can agree that the colours and overall feeling is a lot better on the N64 version than the XBOX version. While having 3D Models akin to Jimmy Neutron looked cool back in the day (eg. 'LOOK, WE'RE CUTTING EDGE!'), sometimes less is more, and in regards to how the original was developed, nothing else comes close. During Spooky the controls look like you're playing an RPG Shooter. There's multiple zombies and even a town in the XBOX version but the one thing I loved about Conker on the N64 was the instant load times. Going to a section, seeing a black screen, then hearing music cues fade into other cues seamlessly was something not many developers were doing yet Rare nailed it perfectly because it was on a Cartridge. Running it from disc just feels like it takes you out of the immersion, crashing the game in order to load a new area. Trust me, If you play the 1080p version on Xbox One, It's quite a lot better. The only difference is that Live and Reloaded looks 'pretty'. But looks aren't everything.

Even when the box version looks a little better, Conker is more expressive in the n64 version, and less scruffy, seriously, the box version needs a good shave.
This is curious, the n64 version is much more cool than the Xbox version, although the Xbox versions having better graphics. In this case, the style of the game on N64 surpass the graphics update of the Xbox version, and that make a big difference on the entire experience.
Sorry for not elaborating in the comment you replied to. What I meant to say is, in this case, the game would have to be judged on it's MP. CBFD and CL&R have the same exact story overall. That goes for voicing as well. Designs and animations don't really break a game. Just because someone hates the game over something as little as designs or animations, doesn't mean it's broken. So the only thing that's really left is the multiplayer since that's Major difference between these two games.
To be honest, I think the Xbox version is less visually interesting as the N64 version, despite the more detailed textures. The colors just seem more washed out and bland compared to the original.

Yeah you right they didnt ruin it, they shat on it completely. Banjo got turned into some shit nuts & bolts game, never saw a sequel. Nothing more along the lines of donkey kong(copyright reasons although probly would be ruined), perfect dark, or literally anything that made their name. Conkers never saw a sequel, the xbox animations look fucking horrendous & apart from the good graphics, conkers face looks lifeless, again no sequel with a version released that literally censored some of the funniest parts in the game.
Nostalgia aside, I still prefer the N64. I just think the cartoonier vibrancy and brighter colors look better. Conker just looks weird with shorts on too. Oh, and also fu Micro$oft

I forgot to mention that another sort of difficult part that was removed, was the big tedi on the turret. I'm guessing the reason he was removed was because of the super tedi doctor. He fucks you up pretty bad and is really resilient. There isn't much health in the room either so to go from one tedi boss to another would be too difficult. That's just a guess on why the turret tedi was removed though. But yeah, on a gameplay standpoint, L&R is better.

You don't need high tech to make a game balanced. If anything, it was a lot harder for Rare to balance out CL&R because they had a lot more things to worry about. Such as vehicles, classes, upgrades and special ordinance. CBFD was a lot less complex hence making it easier to balance and it still lacked balance.

The Xbox version looks really good in the graphics department, but the only problem is the references to certain films have been removed. That, and the Great Mighty Poo's song has been censored. The original Nintendo 64 version was censored to begin with, save for the F-word. But the Xbox remake takes the censorship a little too far.
GLTCH 12345 it’s uncensored most of the time in the N64 version, the characters are more expressive , the cartoony stile gives it the look that it’s a kids game which makes it funnier, everything that gave the original the charm it had was gone. And I just find the original graphics more appealing, the great mighty poo is censored which ruins it. Look at 2:57 and pause it, which one looks better

I wish Microsoft really took their time with Live and Reloaded. I know nothing can replace BFD but it still would've been a good revival if the subtle details were given a bit more attention.
I might be crazy but I enjoyed the Xbox version more then N64 one. I still really enjoyed the N64 version but, for such a dark game it was filled up with bright colors. The Xbox version looked more darker which fitted with the game very well. I loved the new graphical style and the overall better look of the game and the attention to detail. How in the original war level Conker was only wearing a helmet but in the Xbox version the whole outfit changed, how they added fur to the fured animals, how the rain dropped on the camera, how in the original war commercial it was in color while on the Xbox version was in black and white to fit the war felling etc... Yes I know it was censored. But the original was too. Not as much but still. But I thought that the Bip stood out more then just the word alone. I mean sometimes the characters said a bad word but it didn't really standout because of the music and stuff. But when you hear a clear '"Bip" with no music in the background it;s obvious. Which made it more funnier for me. Again that's just an opinion.
THe game wasnt that darker, it was more mature in other way, thw bright colors represent the fun things, the game of humor, not a dark story, in the castle the rain wasnt represented, the outfit thing same thing, doesnt represent what it was.
N64 is already better because he has a glass of milk. For two reasons, this is the WHOLE reason for his bad day was because milks spilt. Second it also adds to the Clockwork Orange joke here. 1:38 seconds in and n64 wins. Artistic Integrity.
I bought this game when it first came out. Soley because the place I was working at sold all but one copy the day it was released. I picked it up and fell in love during the opening scene. As soon as I heard the music…a chill came over me as goose bumps quickly came about. Then I saw the close up and called my friend to tell him to buy it. He took my word and chased around Green Bay for almost 2 hours until he found the last copy at Best Buy. Best intro ever…

The xbox version is an abomination.The very first shot is a nod to clockwork orange and is too zoomed out on the xbox.The textures on his face are bad and stiff, everyone surrounding the throne is standing still and even the textures on the throne are all wrong.I just bought a conker statue and even they went with the n64 look.
Also, Conker has a chalice in Live and Reloaded instead of the glass of milk. Plus, he didn't drank the milk like in Bad Fur Day and the original scene it referenced from Clockwork Orange

Its xbox classic not xbox one. Anyway i like the xbox classic presentation as far as the controls and cameras go. I just keep the 64 version for collector purposes. It seems too slippery on the 64 as far as controls go and alot of glitches like its not really finished.

AdiMercury That's why I hate the Xbox one. It is too confusing. We shouldn't have to say Xbox Classic instead of Xbox One (I used to call it an Xbox One because of the 360). That is like Nintendo releasing another console just called Nintendo. I could ask for an Xbox One (New) and get an Xbox One (Classic) and a copy of Halo 2.

Amazing how despite having better graphics, the characters don't look as lively in the Xbox version. Their animations were more fluid and imaginative in the N64 one which gave them more of a personality, plus some small things like say the great mighty poo not having moving eyes in the Xbox also took away from them looking alive. Also them censoring stuff in a M rated game just made no sense considering that m rated games have only used cussing more and more since the original version. I never did play the remake, nor either versions' multiplayer modes, but I'm sure the single player is practically the same. Still I don't like how they made Conker not duel wield during the saving private rian and matrix parody parts. It made him look less badass. :( Like most, I like the original better, and just wish that they could've made a proper remake.
There are only two successful N64 ports for the 360 that I'm aware of: Banjo Kazooie which had only differences in the HUD icons, rest was basically playing on an emulator lol and Perfect Dark XBLA, where you had a few tiny fixes like those pills made everything except you slow down whereas in the N64 you slowed done too and was pretty much useless, and then only better models and textures. Effects, animations and so-on were the exact same. If GoldenEye XBLA wasn't cancelled it would've been a perfect port too. D:
I mean the main point of the original was to be as adult as possible and parody a shit ton of things, little changes like the only using on gun ruined part of the matrix part, not drinking the milk at the beginning ruined the Clockwork Orange reference, and so on. :P
Now I'm not completely hating on the Xbox version, at time it does look better and it has a better framerate, and I'm not being one of those guys only goes with their childhood things or whatever, I saw the Xbox first, but played the N64 and found it to be the better game. It's okay if you prefer the Xbox version, but just respect us who find the N64 version to be the better one....which it is better in certain parts of the game. Both have pros and cons.
this is the first time i've seen what the Xbox version is like and i agree with everything you just said! it's not only the fluid movements, it's also the expressions on Conker's face. it makes you wonder what Rare was thinking when they remade the game.

The graphics are certainly better on the newer console, but it's painfully obvious how lazy of a remake this is. Just watch that opening scene. Once we get to Conker, there's just so much going on there with the way the scene is presented. The zoom up on his face, the drinking of the milk, and the panning out with his "friends" all moving about organically. On the HD side, he's just sort of... sitting there in some lazy idle animation. The N64 side is more intricately choreographed like a movie scene.

The xbox version clearly lacks emotion and feeling the N64 version has, which is what make the game so good.
Why didn't you use the glide64 plugin? That doesn't have the weird glitches.
At the time of recording this video (which was all the way back in 2008) this was the best I got from the N64 emulator on the Xbox. I'm sure if you emulate this game on a PC now it will give you a much better result.

I have both and only what N64 was better is local coop and sloprano ost. Other is still better on xbox in most i prefer fixed control. On N64 sometime was bad

I can definitely see your point. I recently finished the N64 version uprezzed to 1080p via Rare Replay on XBOX ONE and I can agree that the colours and overall feeling is a lot better on the N64 version than the XBOX version.
While having 3D Models akin to Jimmy Neutron looked cool back in the day (eg. 'LOOK, WE'RE CUTTING EDGE!'), sometimes less is more, and in regards to how the original was developed, nothing else comes close.
During Spooky the controls look like you're playing an RPG Shooter. There's multiple zombies and even a town in the XBOX version but the one thing I loved about Conker on the N64 was the instant load times. Going to a section, seeing a black screen, then hearing music cues fade into other cues seamlessly was something not many developers were doing yet Rare nailed it perfectly because it was on a Cartridge.
Running it from disc just feels like it takes you out of the immersion, crashing the game in order to load a new area. Trust me, If you play the 1080p version on Xbox One, It's quite a lot better. The only difference is that Live and Reloaded looks 'pretty'. But looks aren't everything.

This is curious, the n64 version is much more cool than the Xbox version, although the Xbox versions having better graphics. In this case, the style of the game on N64 surpass the graphics update of the Xbox version, and that make a big difference on the entire experience.

Sorry for not elaborating in the comment you replied to. What I meant to say is, in this case, the game would have to be judged on it's MP. CBFD and CL&R have the same exact story overall. That goes for voicing as well. Designs and animations don't really break a game. Just because someone hates the game over something as little as designs or animations, doesn't mean it's broken. So the only thing that's really left is the multiplayer since that's Major difference between these two games.
Rare should make an HD remake for XBOX ONE and a 3d Remake for 3DS.

To be honest, I think the Xbox version is less visually interesting as the N64 version, despite the more detailed textures. The colors just seem more washed out and bland compared to the original.

Though I appreciate the higher poly count and added visual effects of the Xbox version, there's something so endearing about the N64's vibrant colors and nostalgic blurry textures.

Banjo got turned into some shit nuts & bolts game, never saw a sequel. Nothing more along the lines of donkey kong(copyright reasons although probly would be ruined), perfect dark, or literally anything that made their name. Conkers never saw a sequel, the xbox animations look fucking horrendous & apart from the good graphics, conkers face looks lifeless, again no sequel with a version released that literally censored some of the funniest parts in the game.

In the Xbox version, Conker's expressions are nothing close to whats conveyed on Nintendo, Which is far superior. Makes me want to get another N64.
Nostalgia aside, I still prefer the N64. I just think the cartoonier vibrancy and brighter colors look better. Conker just looks weird with shorts on too.

I forgot to mention that another sort of difficult part that was removed, was the big tedi on the turret. I'm guessing the reason he was removed was because of the super tedi doctor. He fucks you up pretty bad and is really resilient. There isn't much health in the room either so to go from one tedi boss to another would be too difficult. That's just a guess on why the turret tedi was removed though. But yeah, on a gameplay standpoint, L&R is better.

You don't need high tech to make a game balanced. If anything, it was a lot harder for Rare to balance out CL&R because they had a lot more things to worry about. Such as vehicles, classes, upgrades and special ordinance. CBFD was a lot less complex hence making it easier to balance and it still lacked balance.

Funny how the N64 version feels like it has a lot more color to it. It's like they turned down the saturation for the xbox version.
Though, admittedly, the panther king seems better animated in the xbox version.

The Xbox version looks really good in the graphics department, but the only problem is the references to certain films have been removed. That, and the Great Mighty Poo's song has been censored. The original Nintendo 64 version was censored to begin with, save for the F-word. But the Xbox remake takes the censorship a little too far.

GLTCH 12345 it’s uncensored most of the time in the N64 version, the characters are more expressive , the cartoony stile gives it the look that it’s a kids game which makes it funnier, everything that gave the original the charm it had was gone. And I just find the original graphics more appealing, the great mighty poo is censored which ruins it. Look at 2:57 and pause it, which one looks better
