    Use of Mortal Kombat theme song does fit this movie considering that Johnny Cage was based on Jean Claude Van Damme.

    Van Damme himself has said that he went into the studio and recut the film in order to make the fight sequences more watchable. I am not sure where in the featurette it is, but one version of the JCVD Blu-ray Disc has him telling this story in front of the camera. Which makes me wonder what the film looked like before he did his recut.

    This is one of my favorite action movies ever. The implausibility elements, the montages (that you seem to hate for whatever reason), and bad acting are easily covered by the great, nonstop entertainment and the typical redemptive feelings at the end. I never get tired of watching Bloodsport.

    • @oldeskul
      @oldeskul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, Frank Dux falsified most of his story. The only parts of the story that were true was he did receive Kenpo training(probably from a local dojo) and he was in the Navy. The Komite has been held in Okinawa for hundreds of years and is a test of someone who has reached their 7th dan in a particular school of Hopkido before they can go on to begin training as a master.

    A friend of mine has a body exactly like Decker here. In college we all got on steroids and the guy looked like a fucking god after 3 months. Ironically kinda like JCVD. He went from 175 to 205 shredded full 6 pack. He landed the hottest girl of his like, knocked her up, married her, graduated, got off the roids, reverted back to normal. Thats a total fucking win lol. Yay for steroids!

    To be honest, the scene that Decker calls a torture scene is a part of more advanced martial arts training. Also, the line where Van Damme says, "Aren't you a little old for video games," isn't being harsh, it's a comeback to something that Jackson says right before it. That's what people do. When the police stopped off to "harass the Tanaka family," they were trying to figure out where in Hong Kong Dux might have gone. Hong Kong is pretty big you know. Decker obviously doesn't know what a Din Mak is either. Though the movie version depicts the Din Mak as just breaking a certain brick in a stack. That's not all that inaccurate, because Din Mak is the principle that if you apply force to one thing, the force will travel through it to anything it's in contact with. Basically how the Newton's Cradle works. Also, the fact that it seems like everyone knows about the Kumite, the U.S. government doesn't. There's not really any point to meet anyone else who doesn't know about it. The fact that the reporter knows it just adds to the story. The light hearted feel of the chase was to show that Frank was having fun with it. It's entertaining and fits better than a real serious chase would in this film. To be honest, no, Chong Li's fights aren't as realistic. "This is for you Shidoshi, isn't implying that he's dead. That's what Dux was fighting for all along." I understood where your coming from, and thank you for noting that movies are about enjoyment, there need to be more critics that realize that.

    I read that the story of Frank dux is being disputed like the address was his house in his garage and the trophy was bought from a pawn shop... not saying it's true but I thought it was a little weird and funny that they would make a movie that a couple years later would be disputed lol

    • @velentr
      @velentr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      try looking up "the pinkman" on youtube, he had number of compelling arguments as to why Dux had to be lying, also an entertaining video in and of itself.

    • @ChampionSheWolf
      @ChampionSheWolf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not really been disputed it's pretty much been confirmed that Frank Dux is a liar. He has made a lot of outlandish claims that he himself has changed the story on multiple times. Add into the fact that he also makes claims such as being a special CIA operative, that even the courts have dismissed him as fraudulent. He is a prime example of someone that suffers from Walter Mitty syndrome (a case where the person in question believes his fantasies are reality), since he was in the reserves and shows no records of any of the awards or medals he claims to have been given or events having ever taken place. Never mind that the accomplishment he supposedly won in the said Kumite would literally be impossible.

    Love your reviews I do, but don't jump on the word stereotypes. If certain ppl live up to certain stereotypes. They're not stereotypes they're descriptions. Example: name one black sumo wrestler. 🤔. Idk maybe I'm ignorant. Maybe I'm not. But most ppl assume stereotypes means bad. And it is if the intention is there. But if Bolo Yeung is playing Korean let him play Korean. If ppl jump on me for being Polish I'll be the first to say our submarines need work but we make killer sausage 😜
