  • We finished milling the giant ash tree. Off grid winter project: Making Planks and Posts from giant ash tree. We're back in the woods and Ryan turns the giant ash tree into planks and uses an interesting technique to make 4 by 4 inch posts from it. It's one of the last off grid winter projects as spring is just around the corner and that is when we can start to build our first project in the woods. Now that the planks have dried out and not cracked or warped, and we have posts made, we are ready to get to building something in the woods. Big thanks to Jackery for sponsoring the episode! Have you though about providing habitat for solitary bees by drilling holes in rounds/pancakes to give them nesting crevices. I'm not an experts but recently saw a video encouraging it.

Yes I like to see also, I had the same upbringing with my dad, he was a car and bike nut, and from a early age I was helping my dad with anything to with his car. He showed me how to drive when I was 6-7 yrs old, but no cars on the road then. Another thing I like about this channel is being out doors, kids today should learn from this about nature, instead of playing video games 🙄🙄grandpa head on again 😂😂

When I left school I went to work in a timber yard. My job was to put the winding sticks in between the fresh green cut boards. I had to get five sticks evenly spaced and straight across before the older blokes were ready with the next board. The first few days were hell as they never slowed down - time being money to them. Crushed hands and arms, bruises like dark plums and so cold in Winter under a Dutch barn. We'd burn sawdust in a barrel, brew tea and cook sausages. Hard work but great fun. I envy you your youth - seize the day!

Teaching about craftsmen working in the forests is as important as teaching the basics of camp craft...and is equally interesting. I am hoping you will build 'Ashcroft', a successor to the seldom-seen pallet wood cabin. I hope this time that there is more room to properly install the G-stove system.

Please haul the pallet wood cabin over to the new site. Reuse it there. It is a nice bit of construction. You have plenty of shelters at the old site that can not be moved. You may need to build rail/skis to make it portable as you jack it up.

But Ryan's equipment and knowledge has really given you a fantastic leg up on the ability to create a cabin in your woodland built from lumber harvested from your woodland. Also, if you need a product to help control the drying process, also look into Anchor Seal.

People's favorite ones I make are the ones with a plexy glass side so that the birds can be seen. I was actually thinking about making one putting a wifi small camera in it so that it can be viewed from your phone. Anyhow great video I love the these ones when it's you and your dad both I just wish you would upload more often lol

I just found out that you can convert thermal heat to electricity & rig it up to a mppt charger for your Jackery by placing it over the fire. Basically it entails hooking up several if not more TEC Peltier modules that are around 40mm x 40mm x 3mm thick in series sandwiched between an aluminium plate an an aluminium box to place ice water in. When the bottom plate gets hot while it is suspended high above the flames of the fire or sitting on top of your portable indoor fireplace then it will also heat up the opposite side of the aluminium box which you place ice into & this will create a combined high voltage & high wattage that then goes into your mppt charger that then plugs into your Jackery box.

Have you thought about trying to inoculate the old root system with mushroom spores as that'll help release the nutrients and give you something to cook up at camp. Shouldn't be hard I THINK you'd just get some spores a sterilised grow medium/bag combine them and after its inoculated drill the root thumb in growing medium and maybe seal it with wax
