    Hello - I did an entire cap kit on my Sanwa PM1745 C chassis with a vertical collapse and to my surprise It didn't fix the problem. Any idea where else to look? I have the twin Japanese Daytona USA and would really like to keep them. They were working fine with hundreds of hours of fun and the left monitor just tapped out.

    • @christophzett

      Did you replace the vertical ic as well?

      @@christophzett Hi - Yes, IC vertical Chip and all the caps. I have to re-check the solder points and see if I missed anything. I should have done the recapping a section at a time like you did for better trouble shooting. I want to keep this set. I have a Twin USA set also. Any ideas I would appreciate them. Thank you!

    Hi Doktorzett, thanks for sharing this information, I will order parts today.
    I have another 29 inch Nanao with a lot of picture noise(similar to a faulty power supply on the game board video output, but I have isolated to the monitor chassis). Any clues which caps may require replacement? Rather not shot gun the entire chassis as I think this can create more problems. Thanks!
    Brett

    various arcade games use different arcade monitors with different rasters and resolutions, all the sync signals are all different for various arcade games. Any reasons why they made different sync signals for different arcade monitors? You can't take an arcade monitor and swap and replace them with another arcade monitor because the sync signals H&V signals will scramble the colors on the CRT. The arcade monitors circuit board ground is not chassis earth ground because of the isolation transformer. Why does arcade monitors circuit board use an isolation transformer?

    I have a similar issue to this but the line is right at the top of the screen, is this the same issue?

    • @christophzett
      @christophzett  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No not exactly the same because in your case the vertical ic is still doing something - it can not have failed completely because it still deflects the electron beam vertically to the top of the screen. The interesting question is only why the vertical deflection does not go through all the vertical lines as it is supposed to. In your case is the monitor chassis also an Nanao MS9?

      @@christophzett no its a JVC BM-H2000PN-K broadcast monitor. It was working fine last week no warning of issues just turned it on today and nothing if I press the 'Overscan' button there are 4 while lines running across the screen at the top, usually it's red, blue and green lines going across the screen. If I press the 'Blue Screen' button on the front of the monitor (which usually turns the whole screen blue) the bottom white line of the 4 turns blue.

    Would anyone know what would cause the top of the screen to pull to the left once warmed up on a Commodore 1084? Other than that it works fine.

    I ran into this exact problem a couple years back. It would actually blow the center out of the vertical IC if certain caps were bad.
    On most of the Nanao monitors I've seen, the degauss was controlled by a manual switch mounted behind the coin door. You would have to push it for a few seconds each time you relocate the game. Not sure why they did it that way, since the thermistor circuit still worked the same as any other monitor.
    These usually have a great picture, even if the CRT is a bit weak. I know the older MS8 used a Mitsubishi CRT, but I can't remember if the MS9 did.

      I absolutely agree! Brilliant monitor - even with a 20+ year old tube great colors contrast and sharpness of picture. I actually like them even better than the WG7500.

    I have one question, have you done a complete/or any capacitor swap before the vertical collapse (LA7837 fail) happened? greetings from Uruguay.

    Nice! A new zett video! That made my day. Good work as usual. I'm not sure this is something I'd take on when startng out, but good to know about. Perhaps you might do a video on discharging an degaussing at some point. I know if you're going to work on a monitor you really must discharge it, but when should you degauss and what sorts of things will that no help with?

    • @christophzett
      @christophzett  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, glad you liked the vid! You are absolutely right, this is not really for beginners - I hope I find the time to do a monitor vid that explains the very basics at some point...

    I have horizontal collapse on a zaxxon cabinet

    • @christophzett
      @christophzett  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horizontal collapse (meaning one vertical line in the center of the screen from top to bottom) is possible of cause but as far as I know actually a pretty rare condition. Maybe check the width coil and associated solder joints and connectors. Hope you can fix it!

      @christophzett  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great! Please tell us if you were successful. Also I would really like to encourage you to do a recap of the chassis, for the sake of the vertical ic on the MS9 do at least caps c402 (440µF 16V), c406 (1000µF 35V), c407, c408, c409 (3x100µF 35V) and c411 (2.2µF 50V bipolar cap).

    • @jaimeb.384
      @jaimeb.384 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, actually recap was the first step. Vertical problems came right after :(

      Ok, I changed the IC, it just lasted for couple of seconds, it keeps collapsing... I already changed the electrolitic caps before changing the IC, any idea what to do now?

      Si tienes deformaciones de tipo barril. Efecto cogin, en el horizontal, revisa los consensadores de la fuente. 680uf x35v y el de 180uf x 100 v.

      No, but seriously I wanted to release a centipede repair vid earlier but the board still isn't 100% running after replacing >10 ttl chips and recording video >60 min... *g*

    Current kills, not voltage (in response to the warning at the beginning). It is usually conscience they go hand-in-hand. Best proof is touching a door knob on a cold, dry day. You might get a static shock. Those that have a very mild sense of pain are about 35KV, but the current draw is so low, you barely notice any pain at all. This is why you might see people in some pain when using a Van De Graff generator, as those are about 60KV on average.
