- Skutt 818 Kiln
Cone 5, Medium Speed, 20 minute hold
2 hour preheat
Reached cone 5.5 by the self-supporting cones
Seems like the 20 minute hold was a bit too much as a few of the glazes melted on to the cookies, especially Spectrum Soft White although its my first time using it as well. I'm on a mission to get a perfect cone 6 in my kiln, but it didn't work out this time.
A few photos tacked on to the end, to show the "before" pictures of some pieces, the Moth plate, and the re-fire from a previous kiln opening.
The tiny trees are Ivy and Riptide, new glazes from Mayco 2023.
Any other questions about the glazes? Pop them in the comments, I love to talk glaze combos! Or reach out to me on instagram @redeftdesigns !
Hope everyone is having a fun summer!
Peace,
Amanda
Thank you for sharing your glaze adventures! It has inspired me to try a few more things and let the creativity flow! I enjoy your videos.
So glad it has inspired you! I just kind of go with what i feel and so far have had a hard time making the same ( or similar) thing twice ! Its so much fun! Good luck on your pottery journey☮️
I love your kiln openings! Always so many interesting things and great glaze combos...appreciate you sharing :)💗

Thank you for sharing. Very cool combos. I love that purple cup and the manatee is so cute!!!
Thanks for watching! Purple is my fav 💜
You are so creative. Risk taking potter.
Oooo thank you! Thats quite a compliment!
Very talented! All beautiful
Thank you so much!
Very nice work! Did you say how many coats you used for the reactive red over the obsidian on your cast cup? Beautiful.....
Hi! Probably just 2 and 2...usually with spectrum i dont do more than 2 but if i did it again i would just do one good thick coat of obsidian and maybe 3 of the RR.
@@RedEftDesigns I will give it a go and thanks for your reply!
Hi Amanda! Will you have another kiln opening video soon? Sure love seeing your creative endeavors! 💜💚💜
Hi! Thanks for the encouragement! I am working on a glaze batch now hopefull i will fire it before the end of october. Peace!
@@RedEftDesignsYou're welcome. Great to hear and much love. Looking forward to your next video! I too am glazing like crazy lol.
YAAAY! So excited to watch this!! Just a little fyi for the lid. When you get it out of the mold be sure to dry it so the top is on your boards and put a weight bag on it. I had so many pieces that bowed and it really helped. Pour it thicker as well. Omg girl that’s sooo awesome how you made the moth antenna!!! You’re soo creative!! I absolutely love the vase you Meade. The flowers are soo pretty!!
Oh good tip i will def try that! I probably should have poured it way thicker it was super thin. First time with a mold and when you get all the way to the end fired piece you definitely learn a few things!!!
Thanks for the compliments! 💜☮️💜
@@RedEftDesigns So glad I could help. I so very much enjoy your videos since we both slipcast and handbuild. I just love your creativity.
I LOVE that purple aurora green goblet! Sweet!
Oh yeah! It turned out so good i just glazed another one in the same combo 💜💚
@@RedEftDesigns Sweet! I too love purple and green together. 🎨👍🥰
Amazing kiln opening!!! What’s that brown/red clay? It’s delicious 😋 love your pieces and combos!
Hi! I loved your recent opening as well! The brown clay is one i got from another potter who was moving out of town so its her own recipe mixed by laguna. I understand its most like laguna warm brown. I have about 200 lbs left but i LOVE it. Is just like chocolate and so beautiful for handbuilding.
@@RedEftDesigns wow that’s gold!!! I’m so excited about hand building again! My hubbs made me a bunch of plate and bowl molds that I can slab build and then put on the wheel for a foot! Can’t wait to try!
@@thehappyhomesteadnh oh thats super cool! Are they made from wood? I got a plaster bowl hump mold from clayking recently and made a slab bowl on it, worked awesome. At first i was only about mugs, but now plates and bowls seem so fun to me. Can't wait for my next glaze firing i haven't done one all summer!
@@RedEftDesigns yea he makes them on the lathe and then coats it with this beeswax from our honeybees! I’m determined to finally make us a real set of dishes and bowls that match 😂 which isn’t fun when glazing because I love to try all different combos and can never stick to one 😂 omg I know the feeling…I hadn’t posted since like may! Feels good to be back 💗
@@thehappyhomesteadnhi feel the same way about matching sets lol. Aww, I miss having bees, we had them for 3 years before we started attracting bears😬 but they are so amazing🐝
