I'm so glad you made this video. I really love how you explain movies and your opinions; I have quite some trouble doing that in my videos! The ring and The sixth sense are two of my all time favorites! I thought Gerald's game was brilliant as an adaptation and it is one of my favorite books. I preferred Get out to US, but I have to rewatch it. totally agree about Hereditary and Black swan and I actually watched Killer clown from outer space afeter one of your videos and I was very surprised at how much fun and well done it was. Misery also, brilliant adaptation. Some of my other favorites include (non horror and horror) Jurassic Park, Final destination, A ghost storry and more more.
I watched Theater of Blood because of your other video about it. And I absolutely loved it! It’s in my top films now. My husband really enjoyed it as well and he’s not a horror fan like me.
So absolutely silly for folks to fault you for having a different opinion. What a boring world it would be if we all thought the same way. Edit: That being said, I do respect you more because you loved Jordan Peele's US (kidding) such a fun and solid film that doesn't have one boring moment, IMHO.
As a woman, and a TH-camr, i think you're damned if you do, damned if you don't in terms of high ratings. Fairness is often mistaken for not being agreeable for women a lot. I hope you continue to stay true to YOU. that's what most of us here for: we respect your opinion, skills, knowledge and perspective, even if some people don't always agree. Yes! Room, Hereditary, Killer Klowns, Ring, and Gerald's game are sooo good. Quiet Place 2 was pretty good and I agree that the second is just as good as the first or better, the opening was so good! Took two recommendations from this, thanks! Shamed that I haven't seen Silence of the Lamb and Killing of Sacred Deer yet. But I don't understand the hype around Us, I honestly would give it a 3/10. Us was so predictable and cringy. I never understood what people saw in it. Regardless, thank you for your honest list!

Loved the video Emma, but I was suprised about your take on quiet place 2. I personally didn't think it was better than the first. Probably would give it a 6 or 7. Otherwise, your list was spot on for me. In terms of horror sequels that are better than the original, I'll throw out a couple that I favor: dawn of the dead, evil dead 2 and army of darkness, maybe exorcist 3, Annabelle creation, and let's do T2 for the fringe horror pick. Keep up the awesome work! I appreciate the shout out to eyes wide shut as well, there is definitely something eerie about that film.
Killing of a Sacred Deer is 10/10 for sure! sad there's apparently backlash against that opinion. I recommend people who liked the Yorgos style but felt underwhelmed try watching it again; the surface plot seems too simple by the end, but it really becomes a masterpiece once you see what it's going for.

The Wailing, The Chaser, Tale of Two Sisters, Old Boy, Lady Vengeance, The Host, Mother, Mother!, Irreversible, High Life, Bastards, Trouble Every Day, Raw, Riders of Justice, Livide, Inside, The Woman, Coherence, Kill List, A Field In England, Black Bear, Eyes Without A Face, Don't Look Now, First Reformed, Martyrs . . . . . YES, there are way too many great horror thrillers, especially in these last few years.
Thank you for sharing, Emma! All amazing movies ❤️❤️❤️
Omg I only watched A Quiet Place II yesterday and I have to agree with you that it's even better than the first film! Was super tense and loved how the only flashback was at the beginning, in order to give more context.
@spookyastronauts PARASOCIAL RELATIONSHIP! Yes!!!! Loved hearing this construct mentioned regarding “Misery”! I’m currently completing my doctoral research on parasocial relationship and fandom! Great to hear you mention this in Annie Wilkes! 👍
Standing ovation for including Theatre of Blood and Dead Alive(use to watch once a year).
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I can already tell what horror movies you like from this comment
@@spookyastronauts Oh yes, KUDOS for BrainDead. Such a leap from Bad Taste.
@@2112resBad Taste … lol … thats pure amateur stuff till they got a budget … you clearly see it in the result … starts pretty basic and towards the end they get pretty active with special effects … the US Dead/Alive title is so shitty!
Definitely some shared choices on here like The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs and Black Swan
The Witch definitely ..11/10! 🧙♀️ 🐐
I forced my best friend to finally watch the handmaiden and it turned out to be one of her favourite movies
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Love this list. Thanx Emma!
This list was great and you've convinced me to watch Gerald's Game but... What is that shade of lipstick? It's so pretty, I have to know!
Well, this sounds nuts....but I could swear that lipstick is Charlotte Tilbury. Either Legendary Queen or Bond Girl.
You can't be a quality reviewer and give everything a high score. I would be so disappointed if you were a crowd pleaser and hyped everything. I rely on trusted recommendations and they have to be harsh. I don't love everything on this list but I respect your opinion. How good was the year 1999? Is there 3 picks from that year? Anyway, thanks for this awesome video. I have such good memories of seeing some of these films.
@HarambeLives23 no I was referring to what she said at the start regarding her last review and the comments she's been receiving.
Thanks for sharing your list Emma, there are some absolute corkers on this list. Stay awesome
I watched Pet Sematary as a kid and whenever Zelda was on screen I would get scared AF. I remember sleeping with the lights on on the living room and made my dad to be with me because I was afraid she would appear.
This was fun. I like seeing a longer video from ya!
I’ve been wanting to find your highest rated movies!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!
Black Swan is one of my top three favorite movies of all time, and I wrote a massive literary paper on a comparison of it and Perfect Blue my senior year of college. I feel like it's rarer nowadays to see people praise that film as much as I always wish they did. I'm so glad to find someone else who really loves it!
It is an amazing movie, nathalie portman was so great in it.
Consequently, Misery is also Stephen King's favorite adaptation of one of his books too.
@@ddc2957 coming right from his mouth on Eli Roth's history of horror seems like a good source.
@@lilithacaciaWell … I would not give too much on it … this seems change from interview to interview … seen interviews where he said Stand by Me & The Shawshank Redemption are the best movie adaptions of his books …
I was so happy to see The Sixth Sense included! This is one of my favorite films!
Chernobyl is another. This is the 5 hr long one broken up on HBO. I saw it recently and was blown away. For me, it was incredibly immersive and visceral.
Been with you for the last 4 years. Your reviews are good. 😎👍 Always
Thank you
@@spookyastronauts it's my honor. And your not too bad to look at either. 🌹
Very much needed Emma! Never fails to recommend absolute gems.
Hi Jenna, I just discovered your channel and love it.
A horror movie fave of the 70's is "Shanks" (1974) starring world-famous mime, Marcel Marceau. He plays a mute puppeteer who uses a deceased scientist's invention to control dead bodies like puppets. Most macabre!!!
Keep up the good work! (A senior living in New York)
I honestly can't disagree with you on most of these. You picked some really amazing movies.
Delighted you mention Theatre of blood. What a classic, A few years back Diana Rigg (rip) who plays the daughter, had her talented daughter reprise the role for a theatre production performed (wait for it) at the Shakespeare globe theatre in London. Will never get over the fact I didnt see it
i literally put on the handmaiden due to this vid! i love your recommendations always 👍
Love the way
you put yourself outhere,
Love your show
Aren't we lucky to be so spoilt for choice in these genres? Excellent list :)
Thanks Luna!
literally just stumbled upon your channel (thank you yt recommendations omg) and we have SUCH similar tastes?! even down to killing of a sacred deer?!?!?! ahhh i'm so happy!!!
To all of you perpetual complainers and easily offended people, you are the reason I am 3 minutes and 30 seconds into this video and still listening to disclaimers. Goddamnit. Lol. Stop complaining and picking apart the opinions of youtubers so we can start content at the beginning of videos again.
Can you do best horror books I love the same scares as you like paranormal and ghosts.
10 out of 10s on VHS , awesome work Emma. love the content. Stay Spooky
I watched Theater of Blood because of your other video about it. And I absolutely loved it! It’s in my top films now. My husband really enjoyed it as well and he’s not a horror fan like me.
Your taste in films is * chef's kiss *
So absolutely silly for folks to fault you for having a different opinion. What a boring world it would be if we all thought the same way.
Edit: That being said, I do respect you more because you loved Jordan Peele's US (kidding) such a fun and solid film that doesn't have one boring moment, IMHO.
I loved this video! Thank you!
Never seen the 1989 Pet Semetary but it’s my favorite Stephen King book I’ve read so far. It’s such a damn good book.
hi hannah
As a woman, and a TH-camr, i think you're damned if you do, damned if you don't in terms of high ratings. Fairness is often mistaken for not being agreeable for women a lot. I hope you continue to stay true to YOU. that's what most of us here for: we respect your opinion, skills, knowledge and perspective, even if some people don't always agree. That's the beauty of diversity!
You're great, I prefer your breakdown of movies rather than score.
LOVED THIS! 🖤🖤
Thank you
I love hearing your voice, just on in the background while I eat lmao , tuning in and out
Emma it would be amazing if you talk about Latin horror movies: Mexico, Argentina, Peru are amazing for horror movies.
Emma : If you want to do a deep dive into latin american horror some day I might be able to connect you with a scholar on the subject.
@@gusseDSX I'm interested.
Share it with me 😁
@@Norma-Arte-y-Ventas heheh.. I’m thinking I’ll keep the direct contact with my friend exclusive for Emma if she’s interested. But if you are keen on the subject my pal is giving a free online semminar via facebook on mexican horror in a few days : fb.me/e/1cESYhQZ3
I’ve reviewed a few over the last few years! But let me know if you have any suggestions / recommendations :)
@@spookyastronauts if you haven’t reviewed Witching and Bitching, I think you’ll have a great time with that one.
I recommend people who liked the Yorgos style but felt underwhelmed try watching it again; the surface plot seems too simple by the end, but it really becomes a masterpiece once you see what it's going for.
no offence but I never really understand why people think that people who have watched a film and didnt really like it first time are going to to spend their time to watch it again - its been its happened they didnt like it move on
I'm so excited, I'm doing a scavenger hunt on letterboxd and tomorrow I will be watching The Handmaiden. I'm happy I got to hear your opinion on it before I watch it!
Agree with Pet sematary, Blair witch project, The Ring and Hereditary! 😍
