Something that I think is important to bring up here is that the lying leg curl isn't as effective for hamstring growth as the seated leg curl. This is because the hamstrings aren't fully stretched in the in the movement. So when thinking of full range of motion, it is perhaps more important to consider the range of the muscle rather than simply the range of the joint. However, there still may be a purpose to the lying leg curl. For one, if you don't have the seated variant it's the best you can do. Another use of it may be aesthetic, as training in the shortened muscle range of motion does seem to grow more of the proximal portion of the muscle, so you can develop a more tapered look.
@janiselmeris5705 If that wasn't caused by an injury or deformity, that is an issue you should be addressing rather than avoiding as it may be something that will continue to develop until you can't do other things.
If I bend the feet (the calves get stretched), I can leg-curl more weight than if I dangle the feet loose (they are more straight), which makes leg curls considerably harder. What's up with that? I've heard that the feet position (pointed or bent) should not affect leg curl effectiveness, but it feels so different.
The gastrocs (half of what we call the calves) cross the knee joint and so can contribute to knee flexion. By stretching them you're lessening the distance they need to pull before full force can be applied, so it's more advantageous.
@@BradleyZSis correct, part of the calves are active in leg curl, pointing your feet messes with that so I would use the ankle position that’s strongest unless you’re scared of getting your calves too big (lol)
Great video! Ben, I have an important question for you. Is there any way to buy the best course from you? I'm very interested. Thank you very much and have a nice holiday.
having the pad roll up your calf as you curl is a massive improvement, the resistance curve is so much better

@@BradleyZS Also, seated leg curl causes me pain in the right knee, the lying one is a solution in my case.

Can u do another one with a 1 leg lying cable curl? Trying to properly set it up in my home gym
I find a slight incline in the bench hit my hams a lot harder than a decline. Don't know about right or wrong, just know it works for me.
