True I worked at Starbucks when I was young before I became an attorney and for what it was it was the best company I’ve worked for. (Especially compared to big law lol) They give the employees a lot. You’re not supposed to stay there all your life (especially if you don’t work to move up which many don’t). Some people don’t realize that if you want to earn more you have to learn more and do and be more. These adults want babysitters.

This is a job to teach young adults how to work, how to meet job responsibilities, and how to deal with other people and coworkers. Though I do not agree with corporate America, but I do not buy from Starbucks. It is better to protest to make jobs more accessible and available instead of asking for 5 years of experience to work in one of these retail jobs. Now, with the pay raise, more people will be unemployed and leading to the same cycle of economic decline and stagnation. Just because corporations want 5 years of experience to work in retail or make deliveries. Because of the raise, employers have a higher risk of loss for wrong hires instead of giving a chance to an 18 year old coming out of high school.

the real issue is the government withholding taxes, SSI, Medicare, PFL, and the employer share. an $18/hour gross wage costs the company $22/hour, per hr, but the employee only gets like $14.50 per hour in their pocket. greedy governments at the FED, STATE, and LOCAL levels are taking from the poorest people small % and % at a time in the form of existing and new taxes.
For example, why should the poorest workers pay 2.9% of their effective pay towards Medicare, when they also have to pay for their own insurance???? why should the poorest workers pay 6.2% of their effective pay go to someone else retirement? that’s 9.1% of pay the worker is working for, but not getting, which would be $283 per month in their pocket $18/hour example. that’s an electric bill right there…..
the continued growth in withholding taxes by powerful and corrupt governments at three different levels is a huge drain on what ends up in the poorest workers bank accounts

They have to ask for tips because they’re not making enough to live. 90% of the profits are going to the top 10% and the CEO. So the price goes up to be siphoned by the rich. Their CEO got a $110 million bonus. We can afford people who just want a living wage. Greedy people are too expensive, we can’t afford greedy people.

If it’s not rocket science then why are ppl willing to pay $5-$12 for one drink, everyday? Coffee makes money, simple. If the demand wasn’t high there would be no strike. Workers are making the company lots of profit and the ratio of what they get from it is very low considering the money made. Ppl need the coffee. Just like other goods, there’s a price for that service n good. If the demand was low it wouldn’t be much of a bargaining.
