Metra SD70MACH

Soon there will be a new face on the BNSF Racetrack! Metra is testing one of its "new" SD70MACH locomotives as they aim to replace its older fleet in a cost-effective manner. These locomotives are freight locomotives rebuilt for passenger service. As these locomotives aren't yet ready to be on their own power, an F40PH is leading the consist in case of a breakdown.

Soon enough the old unrebuilt F40s shall be history. I wonder if the unrebuilt ones are the ones in the old livery.

The ones in the old livery on the racetrack are F40PH-3Cs the unrebuilt ones are F40PH-2Cs they are only on the UP lines

I think they were going to be converted to battery electric, but plans didn’t go wel so they might just be rebuilt
