    Came along your channel via an 11 year old video, now having watched this one I can say you have become a true artisan of stone masonry 2 thumbs way up 👍👍

    Just watched the video after our brief chat on the Rockhound Podcast with Karen & Theo, that saw is awesome.
    I feel like I might be on the right track with my thoughts on using a bandsaw. It will take me a while to figure out a few things, but I’m keen to try. All I need is a bandsaw saw of the right size & price and a blade. 👍

      Just remember that cutting stone is SLOW. Most wood bandsaws are moved manually. You don't want to have to push the saw into the stone, you will want to have it moved by a motor that you can vary the speed. The movement of the saw head will be measured in inches/minute. All depending on the size of the stone and type of stone. For example a 24" wide granite cut with diamond wire, cuts around 1"/min. Also you need to make sure the wire speed works out. Most diamond needs to run around 24 meters/second.

    I really want to build one for a different project all together…. Rough ball park on what that cost?

      China is probably the cheapest/fastest. Price is around $30K USD plus shipping/tariffs for a CNC one. To build one yourself, it all depends on how complicated you want it. All you need is a way to move the saw up/down (I've see others use an old forklift mast, or an automotive hoist/lift). You can buy pulley wheels from China for fairly cheap, or I've seen someone use trailer tires, and just run the wire in a groove in the tire.

    it is really wonderful and cool, for making such kind of machine that needs massive professional knowledge I promise, cause we are producing this kind machine, thanks for sharing. Now we also providing the diamond wire for cutting granite stone, it cut faster and longer, It must be worth working on your machine, do you have interest in testing it?

    Hey listen, what you do is amazing and hope your passion never dies and that you stay innovating and inspired as long as you want to. So I am have a bit of trouble finding info on this wire. I guess I am thinking of using it in oil fed band saw to cut agates and possible even bigger planks of petrified wood. It's a lot of money to purchase a large lapidays saw and it still doesn't come close to cutting stuff I have and would like to cut. So sorry if this is not allowed or bad form. If that's the case please delete. Can be found under same name and a pic of common opal as my photo on fb.

      Hello Troy, what information are you looking for? The wire is called "diamond wire".

    Very cool!! How much is the wire? Where do you get it? How much use do you get out of it?

    • @GregsStoneYard
      @GregsStoneYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Charles, thanks. The wire is about $50-$55 USD per meter for wire from Italy. You can get cheaper wire from China for around $40/meter. Wire wear is measured in "meters squared cut per meter". Wear depends on the type of stone, high end (limestone) up to 20 meters square per meter, low end 8 meters squared per meter (harder granite). The saw has a 15 meter long wire.

      Thanks for the info. I am looking for diamond wire to cut cast iron. There is a U.S. supplier (Diamond Products) who offers a wire that I think would work (DWHP25) and it's the only one I can find available to purchase without importing. It is listed for sale and in stock on several websites, all of them seem copied out of the diamond products catalog, and that original catalog does not list a length/quantity, so neither do any of the retail web stores. They list the price between $99 and $165 (per ???) I will make some calls Monday and ask, but curious what your educated guess is. Per meter I assume? If we used meters here in 'murica I would agree, but... is there any standard length that diamond wires are typically offered in, that they might be offering (apart from meters?)

      @GregsStoneYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@charlesstaton8104 Pretty sure they just import the wire. My guess is the price is per meter. I buy direct from Italy diamondpauber.it , see the link in the description. They also have wire specifically for steel. It's pretty simple, just email them and they will get back with a quote. Then I do the wire transfer all online through my bank. I think the longest it took was 2 weeks.
      There's no standard length unless buying "endless loops" for stationary saws.

      Yes I can cut rectangular blocks but haven't had the need to yet. I like doing sculpture.

    Do they full full products for commercial sale?

    • @GregsStoneYard
      @GregsStoneYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Don, not sure of the question. Are you asking could I make stone products for sale? Or do I sell saw for commercial sale? For the first question, yes you could but I do not. For the second I made this saw for myself, it's not for sale. You can however purchase similar saws (but better made than mine) from Italy or China if looking for CNC. There's two places in the US that make saws (wilson saws and idealquarry) but their saws are not CNC.
