Regarding the cutting nothing and anything, he meant that true swordsmanship is the ability to handle the sword in a way that can cut anything or in another way that doesn't cut or cuts nothing.
Based on Oda-sensei's words: "In Japan there was a real life swordsman named Musashi Miyamoto who was regarded as the greatest ever, and he was known for using two swords. My childish idea was to simply make Zoro even greater by giving him one additional sword." And this is why Zoro uses three swords.
Regarding Zoro being able to cut steel. If you remember back in his fight against Mihawk one of the first things Mihawk said about Zoro is how his swordsmanship is brutish. And Zoro mentioned how refined Mihawks movements were. This was a first hint at what Zoro's teacher told him, being able to control what you cut and don't is where real strength seems to be. Alongside the feeling that Zoro remembered from his fight against Mihawk, where he becomes very aware of his surroundings when in a life-threatening situation, noticing a "rythem" in everything around him. This, whatever this is, enabled him to cut steel. In true One Piece fashion you'll learn more about this, eventually.. lol
I'm sorry but I think I might disagree with this. The rhythm I believe is the radio frequency of an object (or is it called wavelength?). To make this simple, the radio frequency of smartphone can cause disturbance to pilot communication system, hence the reason people are been advised to turn airplane mode during flight. This is probably because the radio frequency transmitted by smartphone is very close to the radio frequency of pilot communication system. The same frequency/wavelength/rhythm can cancel out each other. So, when the sensei said that the swordsmen can cut nothing also can cut steel is about the understanding of the frequency (or Rhythm) of something will determine, what you can cut and what you can't cut. Zoro finally understood it and manage to figure out that steel rhythm, and that's why he confident of cutting it and also explain why suddenly Mr.2 can hear the rhythm of Zoro sword (steel).
The palm tree thing is meant to show that now Zoro is able to choose what he wants to cut. He can decide not to cut anything, even with the sharpest blade on the planet (or cut anything, including steel 😉). At least that's how I understood it when I saw it back in the day.
@@AnimeCritical No.. Did you miss the part where his master couldn't cut the paper when teaching him this lesson? This is the beginning of Zoro's mastery of the sword. He can choose what to cut with his blades. Has nothing to do with being near death

@@AnimeCritical so Zoro at this time is 18...you are saying his master taught him to cut nothing when he was 3? u have your facts wrong bro, inconsistent yourself..Zoro went out to find Mihawk when he was 17-18, he was 10 when Kuina died, that is when he started training under his master.....he should have learnt to cut steel at age 10? right away just by hearing "cut nothing" he did not even know what it meant.
@lonewolf9325 Nope. Zoro started learning under his master when he joined his dojo. He looked pretty young back then. 3? Nope. But 4, 5, 6, all possible. Not more than that. Zoro was 19 when we see him for the first time. Not 18. And when I said 15 years, it was not a hard 15, but rather around 15 since we don't know the exact year he was taught this trick. But should be around 15 years. Even if I take your word for it and make it when zoro was 10 or 11, that is still 8 or 9 years ago, and plenty of time to practice. He could have even started when he started his bounty hunting, or when he joined luffy, or when he lost to mihawk. But nope. He started in the middle of his fight. Does that make any sense? Remember this is the most important lesson his master ever taught him. With the aim to be the greatest swordsman in the world, why didn't he contemplate this teaching further? If he did not understand it, he could have asked his master for more clarifications as he grew older. Its not like his master was dead.
The answer to beating crocodile was shown when luffy was able to grab his arm and pull himself off the hook thanks to the old mans water barrel breaking and dousing his arm.
10:22 "Kokyuu" is "rhythm". There were a couple of subtitles a few seconds before this one where the only word said was "kokyuu", and the subtitle said "rhythm" As for Zoro cutting steel, that's what the whole thing with the flashbacks to his master was about - a true swordsman can choose what he cuts, no matter how hard he swings his sword.

Fun Fact: in the first ever Filler Arc that you skipped, we actually get to Zoro already being able cut steel, which according to another Reactor kind of undermines Zoro’s moment here, what do you think? Hm, i wonder if they ever mentioned the term Breath of All Things? Anyway, with this, all that’s left is Luffy vs Crocodile.
I feel like that could be explained as that being a weaker metal. While with this, it’s like how most sword fights we’ve seen, it’s really only been Zoro and Mihawk who outright sliced through other swords so it’s a testament to not only how strong they are, but how strong Mr. 1 is too with steel only masters could cut through.
Yeah Mr1 is a pretty big monster. In any other arc, he'd be the main antagonist, Luffy would struggle insanely hard against him. That really displays the difference between Croc and the rest of the enemies when one of his fighters is stronger than all of the arc bosses that Luffy has beaten before by far. "I can't figure a way to defeat Crocodile" "Fire as well". Yeah we never see it but in my opinion, Ace could have destroyed the entirety of Baroque Works on his own easily, Crocodile included considering Ace is a bad matchup for Croc (and Mr 1 too, and Ms All Sunday, the three of which are the major threats here), you're right.
the original translation has "breathing" instead of Crunchyroll's weird "rhythm" which is a lot more clearer imo. which again is similar to Demon Slayer!
What I liked about the One Piece live-action is that the story is darker and slightly different from the anime, leaning more towards the manga. I hope the upcoming seasons of OPLA will have an even darker storyline. What's great about it is that, whether you're a new or old fan, you'll still be curious about the story they'll present in the live-action. It would be boring if they just copied the anime story since there wouldn't be any thrill in watching it if we already know the plot. That's why I'm happy they changed some parts of the story.
Actually, in the real world, a mere martial arts student using a high-carbon steel katana can cut through thin sheets of low-carbon steel. This is possible because high-carbon steel is harder and can hold a sharper edge. However, attempting to cut thicker sheets or moderate to high-carbon steel would be much more challenging and could damage the blade. In terms of metallurgy, a sword made from higher carbon steel can easily damage a sword made from low-carbon steel. This explains, from a metallurgical perspective, why Mihawk's sword was able to destroy two of Zoro's katanas. Mihawk’s sword may be made of a 1095 Carbon Steel or T10 Tool Steel, which would naturally overpower Zoro's standard katanas (made of 1045 Carbon Steel). Even if Mihawk didn't move his sword. Zoro could have damaged both his standard katanas (1045 Carbon Steel), hitting them hard enough on Mihawk's 1095 Carbon Steel or T10 Tool Steel Sword (assuming its made of real world material). So technically, Zoro did already damage steel in a sword fight before, only that he was the wielder (although some would argue it was actually Mihawk who cut Zoro's steel blades)
There is only one other instance in fiction that I can think of, where someone has a sword in their mouth: Jesus in the Bible (Book of Revelation) No joke! The way I read Zoro's level up is that his observational skills got way better and that he was able to sense atomic/molecular/cristalline frequencies, which helped him 'slice between their bonds', I guess. A bit esotheric, but it works in already off-the-rails fiction, I think.
Zoro just used armanent haki infused with his sword to cut devil fruit user. In One Piece world, to beat devil users either you need to use haki or sea water or sea prism stone. There was no animation of haki in pre time skip that’s why i was hella confused when Zoro cut steel suddenly back then but now I realized how Oda explained the awakening of haki in brilliant way and I don’t think this is spoiler or even if it’s spoiler it really don’t make that difference.
IDK the kicking claw force scene just reminds me of that scene from spy kids 3 when elijah wood shows up in one scene and the very next he dies. Like why was it included.
I really hate how you guys spend half the episode trying to come up with theories about what is going on rather than actually pay attention to what is happening.
Basically Zoro learned to cut what he wanted to cut. He doesn't want to cut the palm tree leaves so it didn't get cut. There is a much deeper concept about this but it will be explained eventually 😂
Can anyone say whether these guys turn their eyes towards watching Naruto or .. have they watched already long before... Or any chance that they may watch in future.... If anyone feels same PLS REPLY..Bruuh!!!
This is way before Oda came up with the idea and system of Haki. The swordsmanship lessons here (everything has a rhythm, choosing what to cut, etc.) are just common tropes in Samurai/swordsman stories. Just like how Shanks scaring the sea monster wasn't haki foreshadowing - it was just the "murder intent" that has been a very common trope in animanga for decades. Oda came up with Haki a bit before timeskip and decided to use it to explain some past feats that characters had. This is why many early actions and powers dont completely align with how Haki works later on and why many characters who we know had haki back then (in terms of continuity) didn't use it - because it simply didn't exist yet..
No. I think is more like frequency high and low note. Like a sound can break the glass with the right note. Many people think that every thing have a frequency that if you match it you can break it or cancel it like noise cancelling technology
@@AfroNinja1278 *Big Spoiler Warning* No, this is clear haki foreshadowing. Zoro said he was "putting his will into the blade". What is haki? Willpower. It cant get clearer than that. In the future we also saw the exact same quote Zoro's master said, being said by Hyogoro while teaching haki. So that's 2 for 2, both crystal clear and pointing at this being haki. Oda clearly had the general foundation of haki worked out extremely early on. Shanks displayed it, Zoro did here, Enel will in the next arc, Luffy does multiple times later. What Oda didn't have was the specifics worked out.
Too many forget his being able to work from the shadows in this arc. Crocodile only knows his voice, Miss All Sunday hasn’t mentioned him, Bon Clay never got his face prior. He was able to feign being Mr. 3 to throw off the trail for a little, defeated the Unluckies, got the Eternal Pose, helped in getting Luffy and Nami to the mountain even if it meant self-sacrifice in the avalanche (if he hadn’t done what he had, Nami would have died from the impact), helped support Chopper against Kuromarimo and Chess before his injuries got to him, continued recon work with Chopper once in Alabasta since Chopper’s transformations weren’t all known and could be an advantage, came to the rescue as Mr. Prince, took down Bon Clay
This is possibly zoro’s best fight- because the climax actually showcases technique and is cinematically smooth and quiet. Most of his fights later just turn into dbz power fantasy…..

u have your facts wrong bro, inconsistent yourself..Zoro went out to find Mihawk when he was 17-18, he was 10 when Kuina died, that is when he started training under his master.....he should have learnt to cut steel at age 10? right away just by hearing "cut nothing"
he did not even know what it meant.
Remember that one moment when he knows where the stones will land and where his sword is. REMEMBER IT
I had forgotten how amazing Vivi's VA is
did Bach do the "Ma Ma Ma?" 😂
The answer to beating crocodile was shown when luffy was able to grab his arm and pull himself off the hook thanks to the old mans water barrel breaking and dousing his arm.
There is a hint during the Luffy vs Crocodile fight. Go back and watch it again until you find it !
Carlie - "You can't fight fire with fire - maybe you do..."
I am just commenting this and nothing more.... IYKYK
How have I watched all of your one piece content and only NOW seen that I haven‘t even subscribed O:
anime fans after a few years of watching anime 1:26
10:22 "Kokyuu" is "rhythm". There were a couple of subtitles a few seconds before this one where the only word said was "kokyuu", and the subtitle said "rhythm"
As for Zoro cutting steel, that's what the whole thing with the flashbacks to his master was about - a true swordsman can choose what he cuts, no matter how hard he swings his sword.
kokyuu might get translated to rhythm in some cases, but it literaly means breathing or respiration. the thing is japanese people use it for balance, harmony or essence of things
1:16 nihongo jozu !
Carlie cooking here live action not supposed to be 1 on 1 with anime, bcs i want different experience, live action can be more serious type of story bcs i want live action can be enjoyed by all people not just anime fans.
9:10 the ost kicking in 🥵
Fun Fact: in the first ever Filler Arc that you skipped, we actually get to Zoro already being able cut steel, which according to another Reactor kind of undermines Zoro’s moment here, what do you think?
Hm, i wonder if they ever mentioned the term Breath of All Things?
Anyway, with this, all that’s left is Luffy vs Crocodile.
I feel like that could be explained as that being a weaker metal. While with this, it’s like how most sword fights we’ve seen, it’s really only been Zoro and Mihawk who outright sliced through other swords so it’s a testament to not only how strong they are, but how strong Mr. 1 is too with steel only masters could cut through.
There is a trend with zoro's opponents lol
There's a "dark" trend you say?
Then let the counts begin 😂😂
The episode minority hunter was born
Mr 1 was way too cold damn
Another 120 episodes more for my favorite arc.
23:04 zoro tells you if you catch it
Bravo.
Ange is cooking.. he said it :)
May be you can do a top 10 strongest in the verse power scaling after each arc , one-piece fans are really into powerscaling especially on twitter .
Do yourselves a favor... I'd avoid bad mouthing Mr.2 BonClay... he's a legend of legends.
Did he just say Bach is a french composer? 😭😭😭
That's why I'm happy they changed some parts of the story.
note: remember this moment zoro able to cut steel 😏 its going to be important as you progress your journey to the one piece world
Actually, in the real world, a mere martial arts student using a high-carbon steel katana can cut through thin sheets of low-carbon steel.
"My will is flowing into this sword"
-Zoro
Yeah. That is the first feat of h*** for the show.
the point of the palm tree was to show he can cut nothing at will but also steel ..
His observation 😭😭😭🎉
I thought the live action was pretty funny, all things considered, so I trust them with that going forward
There is an explanation for why he was able to cut steel but you guys are gonna have to wait 300 episodes for that 🤣
Mr. 1 should have go for the head, rookie mistake.
Mr 2 clears Blade man any day
There is only one other instance in fiction that I can think of, where someone has a sword in their mouth: Jesus in the Bible (Book of Revelation) No joke!
The way I read Zoro's level up is that his observational skills got way better and that he was able to sense atomic/molecular/cristalline frequencies, which helped him 'slice between their bonds', I guess. A bit esotheric, but it works in already off-the-rails fiction, I think.
9:16 oda already hinted observation haki
He already did that with Mr 3.
Zoro just used armanent haki infused with his sword to cut devil fruit user. In One Piece world, to beat devil users either you need to use haki or sea water or sea prism stone. There was no animation of haki in pre time skip that’s why i was hella confused when Zoro cut steel suddenly back then but now I realized how Oda explained the awakening of haki in brilliant way and I don’t think this is spoiler or even if it’s spoiler it really don’t make that difference.
you guys have no idea how much of a historian oda is
IDK the kicking claw force scene just reminds me of that scene from spy kids 3 when elijah wood shows up in one scene and the very next he dies. Like why was it included.
Watashi wa star 😂😂😂😂❤
star star star sutaa 😂
I think "cut nothing" means cutting between the particles
Well after loosing to mihawk zoro pledged until he defeats hawk eye he'll never loose again
I’m your 1,334 view!
day 2 of asking to watch sukuna vs mahoraga blu-ray
I really hate how you guys spend half the episode trying to come up with theories about what is going on rather than actually pay attention to what is happening.
👍👍👍👍
why google giving me like 6 google pixel ads per vid
yesssssssssssssss
❤

Ange, please react to Lookback movie It is an adaptaion of manga by Chainsaw Man author!
Guys i think you need to increase the one piece screen size.. Its small😢
And he can cut stone.....
Basically Zoro learned to cut what he wanted to cut. He doesn't want to cut the palm tree leaves so it didn't get cut.
There is a much deeper concept about this but it will be explained eventually 😂
So zoro was able to sense where stones would not fall and stuff
SPOILER
haki?????
As iam on ep977 where they found the traitor, hows the pacing further? Anyone knows who already the whole gear 5 and everything...
Can anyone say whether these guys turn their eyes towards watching Naruto or .. have they watched already long before... Or any chance that they may watch in future.... If anyone feels same PLS REPLY..Bruuh!!!
haki foreshadowing
@@AfroNinja1278 *Big Spoiler Warning*
No, this is clear haki foreshadowing.
Y’all are HARSH on Sanji. He’s done the most this arc and Zoro fights ONCE and y’all move him above Sanji??? 😭😭😭 Damn.
@ It’s actually insane the strange amnesia that hits people when it comes to Sanji.
Water luffy incoming 🔥
Looks like Zoro has reached the bare minimum strength level to become a Demon Slayer, with a few more years he could become a Hashira
Bro why do you like mr 2 so much
This is possibly zoro’s best fight- because the climax actually showcases technique and is cinematically smooth and quiet. Most of his fights later just turn into dbz power fantasy…..
Is this really any different?
