    This is great, thanks for taking the time to film this. I'm glad it wasn't a simple removal because we get to see how you handle the little surprise stopper, etc. 👍

    I'm gathering courage to fix a loudly protesting pocket door. Now, mine's tracks aren't the same as yours, but the process of getting at them looks much the same, so I'll try to follow your guide for that part, as it made sense even to a complete amateur such as myself. Thanks very much also for including the *problems* you encountered during this adventure-most guides tend to gloss over those as if, well, as if the job was running on rails 😉

    Suggestion: In order to make it easier to remove the door, place a dowel rod or something similar under the door to make it easy to move it.😊

    This video helped me a lot. I have the exact same hardware/rollers. One thing I’d like to add for ppl trying this. Once you finally get the door on the track, make sure and use a lubricant for the track and roller wheels!! I didn’t think it would be that big of difference but man was I wrong! It went from horrible scraping noise to smooth sailing. I used a garage door lubricant spray. Make sure to do the entire track and wheels! Roll the door back and forth until it’s smooth.

    Nice work! A tip I've learned with removing the nails from trim is to pull them out with pliers through the backside. Saves having to patch the holes and less likely to damage the trim.

    Thank you In years past I actually cut the drywall to access the rollers. This time I got the door out and back in three hours! However, you might add on item to your video. Sometimes when a door is sagging, like mine was, the track simply needs tightening. I could have done that without removing any trim.

    Nice video! Just a suggestion, Use a multifunction tool and cut the old guide out and avoid having to remove the opposite side trim. You can replace it with an adjustable guide that is installed on the outside of the trim.

    Thanks for the video, it was a big help to me on a similar style of pocket door. Mine was missing the guide at the bottom (probably removed by the guys that put in the new flooring, ugh) and all the movement due to the missing guide caused the hardware to become out of adjustment. Eventually, the door jumped the track. Too bad you don't do videos anymore... We're not taking the advice of your theme song, talking about you even though you're gone. :)

    The main reason to use "painters caulk" (or Window and trim sealant) is because it can be painted. If you attempt to use a silicone sealant intended for kitchens and baths, they repel water and will also repel your paint.

    You didn't explain how to measure where to replace the hanging hardware. I am having trouble with that and taking the door down every time it needs to be readjusted is a big job! Also, how to do adjust the height of the wheels with the adjustment screw so the door slides even with the frame?

    How do you know which side of the door to remove the trim on?

  • @jameslewis7645
    @jameslewis7645 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have found it better (safer), when working with narrow trim, to use the small end of the mini pry bar and use a twisting motion instead of prying. I usually only work where the nails are located. It lessens the chance or cracking and less effort to remove the trim. Otherwise, great video.

  •  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My pocket doors and trim are all wood toned so I cannot use white caulking. How do I finish it off?

  • @karlabrooks2255
    @karlabrooks2255 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also the reason for the repair is the back roller is off. The hardware is designed for front roller to go on outside track and back roller goes on the opposite side of the track.

    • @karlabrooks2255
      @karlabrooks2255 ปีที่แล้ว

      My boyfriend has made a tool to reach back and unscrew the set screw. He welded a long piece onto the wrench. We will see if it works. I think the hardware was put on wrong in the beginning. I think both front and back rollers should be on the same track. Because you can't get the %$$%% back on track! I'll let you know if it works.

    • @AlbeDarned89

      So the screws don't push wood into the old holes, resulting in the same issue.

  • @patrickbarry7221
    @patrickbarry7221 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    caulk is good for the seams, but go for spackle on the nail holes. you can sand down the spackle, but not the caulk! that let's you get a nice smooth finish when you paint.

    I searched for info on this last year. Nothing. Thanks for posting. Unfortunately my house was built around 1980 and moulding apparently was not en Vogue. I’m guessing I may have some drywall work. I really just want to replace the cheap paper thin hollow core doors with something more upscale.
    Also it would be beneficial to note that the roller assemblies for this type are typically ACME/Stanley No. 85’s.

  • @krisak5645

    Nice video. But my house settled and apparently bent the track, and while the door is still on the track, it's nearly impossible to operate. I've been told the only way to repair it is to tear apart the wall and redo the whole thing. Either that, or remove the door and frame-in a conventional door in it's place.
    I guess I'm wondering why anyone would want one of these nearly impossible-to-service things in their home.

    • @antonmaglic9762
      @antonmaglic9762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because they are GREAT when they are working and you have a house that DOESN'T settle. In fact, I'm wondering how a house could settle so much that it bends the track in a pocket door. I would think that much settling would cause a lot of more serious problems than a pocket door that doesn't work.
