As it should! since monitors tablets are just regular monitors with added benefit of using a pen with it. You cant use it without a computer. Smartphones are as powerful as computers nowadays.
It's a monitor that you can write on. That's it. No "brain". The same size monitor today for PC is about 150 bucks. So...you are paying 500 more so you can write on it. Rip-off in my book.
Honestly, I am glad that Wacom is making these Cintiqs cheaper. Whether you like alternative tablets is one thing, but the fact that these alt tablets are getting popular shows that not everyone who wants a Cintiq is a professional and I am glad Wacom is finally listening. I think we can all agree that cheap alternatives are not only great, but that cheap ACTUAL cintiqs, are better. I think my only concern is that this Cintiq seems to have major quality control issues and many users have been complaining. I think it could be like you said, that Wacom devices are priced so high because getting so many quality components and making them work on a screen costs a lot of money? And the only reason why some of the alternatives work so well, is because they're very limited technology wise, and that anything beyond that would either cripple it (For example, the Gitter on the new Huion is caused by tilt, and makes the tablet unusable, many I know are returning it) or be basic because, it would cripple the tablet and they don't have the budget to make it work. Honestly, I feel like that before anyone gets this and have issues, wait. The first generation of a product is usually always the worse, and Wacom has had quality issues with ther Bamboos as well. But, Wacom doesn't seem to care about the Bamboo market anymore. They aren't losing money off of it. They don't care if you buy a more functional XP PEN over it, since the Bamboo was intended for very light sketchers/hobbyists anyways, and not for people who draw everyday or take their craft seriously. Screen tablets are a different story, and while many go from pad tablet to pad tablet, many artists hold on to the same screen tablet for years (Unless it has a serious issue). Wacom REALLY needs the prosumers and freelancers, the people who aren't indie and thus don't need a full blown Cintiq, but also run a Patron and need a display tablet to advance their art and work on commissions. (And the people who can't use a Pad tablet due to eye issues). I am finally glad that Wacom is finally acknowledging them. This is why I love competition, Wacom has been slacking for a while, but after they've taken the heat, they've been doing so much better. I love it.
@@anab0lic Not exactly. XP PEN has a tablet around 500, even 600 before similiar to this two years ago. And it only seems that way since Wacom alts are so cheap. And XP pen has gotten way more money and ad revenue, which is why their 16 inch tablets are 450 when they used to be 600, like this one. Part of the increase in price is partly due to advanced technology such as the pen, which like Aaron says, no other alternative has. Also, the Intous Pro large is 500. This is only 649 more, so it really is affordable if you think of it like that. I hope they release a budget 13 inch tablet worth 400! That would be rad! They'll probably never do it though since it would cannabilize the Intous tablets sales, and thats the problem Wacom had with making this. Eat alive the Intous or the 13 inch tablets? I'm glad they chose the 13 inch tablet. Getting a small pad tablet is fine. It's not ideal, but it's workable. (So long as it's at least bigger than your whole hand). However, 13 inches is just awful. The screen isn't properly calibrated, and the icons are tiny, and your drawing is waay off compared to even a pad tablet. They're honestly really pointless in my opinion. The XP Pen 13 inch is the best 13 inch tablet and the only one that's worth it. Because there's still enough space for the screen, and the fact that it's designed more like an Intous, it makes it so that you can use it like an Intous or a Cintiq, which is a great idea. Compared to Wacom's actual 13 inch Cintiq, where that functionality is limited, it's expensive, and the image is small. I never got way Wacom was so behind with 16 inch when 16 inch was always the clear future and 13 inch felt so outdated. Glad they're finally realizing it, yet still keeping it as an option.
This is a fantastic review! I really like how you review the cintiq itself, then jump into comparisons of other Wacom tablets as well as alternatives. It's clear, concise and very well written. Thank you so much Aaron!
I'm getting a Wacom Cintiq 16 tomorrow! There's a sale in the store that I'm getting which lowers the price €100 (About the same in dollars). Then I also have the student-discount that Wacom provides, which makes it even cheaper. Thanks for the review!!
ᗯOᑎᗪEᖇ ҡȗṅ it sadly has to be connected to a computer or laptop. If you'd want one that can work on its own, I recommend you to get the Wacom Companion 2, which is basically a computer in its own. But still, the Wacom Cintiq 16 is super chill to work with, really smooth and feels great to draw on. Hope this kinda helped you. PS: The companion 2 is waaay more expensive than the Cintiq 16!
I have purchased two Wacom tablets since 2009 and I adore them. I love the Pro pen and still have the first one that has been used a lot. Nibs still are great as the pressure is not strong and the nibs do not seem to wear out (maybe a tad) I used the same nib for years with success. The slippery surface is the only issue I have with my tablet (used with my computer) as I find it hard to draw good circles and curves, so this sounds like a dream. Thanks for great promo and good voice skills that are easy to listen to.
@@aaronrutten Let people know that they can use their Intuos pro for the express key pad simultaneously with the cintiq 16 if they dont want to pay the exorbitant amount for the accessory. Im using them flawlessly together.
Well thx to you aaron i bought my first drawing tablet the wacom cintiq 16 and it will be here soon so excited!! Love all your vids been watching your vids for a while now keep up the good work! :)
I had been using this type of products since the early 90's and I like Wacom products but I am not in love with Wacom products. For me, it feels like Wacom knows and finally feels the pressure from the alternatives. You pay for the additional features of a Wacom but if you just need a pen tablet or display to do your work digitally. Nothing that I would do on a Wacom I could do on any other tablet. The pen tilt and rotation is not supported in every application and does not affect how well your digital work will end up. I would only get a Wacom if my company or clientele demanded it but coming originally from a traditional background and having worked with this tool for almost half my life. I don't see the benefit the quality statement people use is the same for people who buy macs as well. I have used both of and on since the late 80's and the differences now for me I choose a PC for flexibility and upgradability. So essentially it really is the same tool it is like comparing a pencil to a more expensive pencil you can draw with both one may have more features and will be better designed but it still draws and it still a pencil. The tool does not make the art it is the artist using the tool that makes the art. The art you create requires the same amount of effort and art has no limitations. Bit thanks for sharing this review I kinda thought this would be like a Wacom knockoff of a Wacom not using the same technology and tool. This would've been an easier sell for me with a 4k screen, 100% RGB and a decent stand.
Thanks for this review, I was close to choosing a cheaper alternative and this helped tipped me over. I am very pleased with it- it is definately worth the money and for the amount of time you will use it is really good value. Now I've had it for a couple of months, I would say to anyone looking at the smaller alternatives for the lower cost of entry- I think they would definately be too small and the cheaper 16 inch ones are only a little it less and I think the smaller bezels would actually be problematic. 16 inches is just big enough that you have space to draw with larger gestures and the big bezels on the wacom 16 are extremely useful for ergonomics when getting towards the edge of the screen. I haven't found myself needing the remote as my right hand just stays on the keyboard for hot keys. I also have found paralax to be a complete non-issue, if you really look for it depending on the angle your looking at the screen, it can be found more so at the extreme edges of the screen but you are really looking at the brush tip not the nib of the pen when you draw. I am however very interested about the (I think art pen?) that allows for barrel rotation as I can see that being really useful with textured brushes, just as a caution though if anyone is also thinking that I think it comes with the felt nib as stanard on the wacom support page is strongly recommends not using felt nips with this tablet as they say it will scratch the screen so make sure to get some normal plastic nibs for it or swap out for one of the spares included with the cintiq.
I bought Wacom Intuos S [CTL-4100WL] few days ago. Try to draw straight line, but it can not. It look like the line you draw 7:18. Do you have any ideas?
I've been using Wacom Intous tablets since the 90's and always wanted to upgrade to a Cintiq. I kept my eye on some of the up and coming companies the last few years and with the release of the Kamvas line from Huion I picked up a Pro 13 before Christmas. With the sale price and online coupon at the time I paid about $325 for it. Let me tell you, I love it. In comparison, I also own an Ipad Pro and Apple pencil, and I love that too especially with Procreate, but for Photoshop, Clip Studio and a bit of 3D work there's still something to be said for using a powerful desktop. I don't regret the Huion purchase for a second, and my only hope is that the Kamvas lasts longer than some of the previous models have been said to last. But so far so good. It has the cordless pen, the pressure, the tilt, the matte display, and is said to be 120% Adobe RGB. Even has some shortcut buttons and a stand. Wacom just isn't beating that with this new, more affordable Cintiq. I will be looking to get a second drawing monitor for my office (first one is at home office) and I'm leaning to the Kamvas Pro 20, which is still cheaper than the Cintiq 16. Wacom is going to have to stop relying on their name at some point as more companies continue to refine their products and offer a lot more for the consumers money. When I first saw this Cintiq announced I was pretty excited, but I think they could have easily offered a bit more with the model.
artiphats I have the same feeling as you, I'm desapointed of what they get out... but if I've good understood the tablet don't need to be connected to a pc ? Or it's just the other Mobile pro type.. I was thinking about it, but didn't read pretty good things about it especially on the cable connection and it don't looks that smooth :( Did you tried the xp-pen artist 16 or 15.6 please ? I would like some advices on what you think about this tablets if you have time. (And the one I talked about before if you can) Thank you really much :)
How's the Huion treating you after a few months of use mate? I'm in the market so I like to hear from those that have had a Wacom alternative for a long while.
Question, I have a 2012 macbook pro. 1 Thunderbolt, 2 usb, and no HDMI. I ordered a standard Cintiq 16 (not the pro). This requires to use the 1 thunderbolt, and 1 HDMI. I have a single thunderbolt to HDMI converter cord...... BUT I also want to run an external display......how can I run both? having a few extra USB ports would be nice as well!! thanks!
It's good to see that they're not being as tight anymore. The competitors like XP-Pen, Huion and Ugee seem to have had a positive effect :). I know your opinion on those tablets, I dissagree and will likely use alternatives for a good long time, but I think we can both say it's nice to see wacom being more competitive in the mid+ tiers of the market.
I'm getting ready to order my cintiq 16 next week and I'm super excited! Hopefully I can get a better model, but just happy to get a wacom. Also I enjoy your very detailed reviews
FYI You can use your intuos pro simultaneously with the cintiq 16 for its express keys so that you dont have to buy the express keypad accessory if you already have an intuos pro. They work well together.
You have to buy it separately. I do suggest that you just use the keystrokes on your keyboard though. I currently have a tablet with express keys and never use them because the keyboard is faster.
thank you so much for viewing this. i bought a display tablet , its called artisul. it has ups and down but for its price tag. its worth the entry level . its kind of sad but atleast this is much cheaper option yet still not highly affordable in certain countries. the NTSC part is the hardest part for me to evaluate into purchasing this if i ever had the money tho
I was wishing for cheaper/entry level cintiqs earlier and it actually happens?? Is this heaven?? I wonder how much would a 13 inch one cost if there will be one I'm glad this exists I was too scared to invest in any of the alternatives since hearing bunch of bad things about them (eg. they're not durable, customer service is a joke, they make people leave overly positive reviews on amazon/youtube/whatever to make others buy their products, bunch of driver issues etc.)
A lot of the negative stuff about the alternatives is true, it just get suppressed by folks who want free stuff in order to keep getting free stuff. For example, I've been trying to get some alternatives to review, but they keep telling me I have to have the review approved first before I can publish it.
That sucks, honestly! I hate when companies are doing that. Competition is important however so I'm still glad those companies exist. I have a feeling that this tablet wouldn't exist if it wasn't for them. Or maybe it's just Wacom realising that not everyone who's drooling over a cintiq is a pro or not everyone needs all the features (And don't forget to mention those who have eye-hand coordination issues with pad tablets)
I have an xp pen artist 12 and it's amazing. Also the huion line is super good. I looked up the cintiq pro 16 on Amazon and that one was 1600$ and rated 2/5 stars from 53 reviewers. If you want accuracy with reviews go read Amazon those people love to complain.
@@Kipzi That's great to hear! I've never used a huion or xp-pen myself so I can only judge from people who have tried them before. A lot of them say they suck but there also people saying they're great so idk what to think anymore. I don't want to play russian roulette while choosing a device to draw on lol .. it kinda makes me anxious Yeah, Wacoms ain't perfect either. I heard the cintiq pro line is quite a miss on their point. (with the expectation of the bigger ones) And also the new intuos pros which destroy nibs like crazy. I know I shouldn't go with those models but other Wacoms I've tried before were amazing. I'm still looking for more reviews about this specific model before deciding to buy it. I don't want to be disappointed. That would suck. Another option i'm thinking about is the IPad Pro. People love those!
I win 2 contest on digital illustration in Latam competitions using a Gaomon PD1560. If you are already a Pro you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars in something luxurious like Cintiq Pro line Pen Displays. For me Huion is side by side in the market with Wacom. If you type Wacom on Amazon the 85 percent of results are showing non wacom pen displays or tablets. Many Pro people or stuf on ArtStation is made by non wacom products and is a significant observation! I waiting for a new Kamvas Pro 16 or something like that instead this Wacom releases, sorry is my opinion. In photography are many Pros with no full frame equipments and is the same case. Is not the Camera! Is only you!
I have a 19.5 Huion KAMVAS but I'm searching for a smaller screen tablet because my current one is too big for me and I don't have a proper desk for it. I want to downsize to a 13-16 inch tablet but I'm stuck between getting the 13-16in Huion tablets or Wacom. With my current tablet, since I don't have a proper computer desk I have to put my huge and heavy (the stand makes it heavier) Huion on my lap while sitting on my bed (my room is too small for a desk and computer unfortunately) So I really can't work on art as much as I want to because my legs end up hurting from having a heavy tablet resting on it plus....it puts train on my lower back. So any suggestions from you fr a smaller, and less heavy tablet with a stand or not, I'm all open.
I've been looking to jump from pencil and paper to digital art for a while now. just as a passion not profession and so I'm glad i was able to find this video and appreciate you laying things out so well. After I managed to shake the feeling of missing out on something more expensive I realized I only needed something to show me the ropes. Thank you very much for the information. With this I can finally make everything from Batman fan art to working on landscapes; a particularly weak spot for me.
I've been aching for a display tablet for a while and while I heard iPad pro is great, I'm reluctant to invest in a $120 stylus and an $800 machine that's destined to start slowing down after 2 or 3 years, as most rechargeable devices do. On top of that, iPad's aren't exactly ideal for high-res files for selling prints and other things like 3D modeling and photobashing. This seems perfect for a hobbyist looking to earn some cash freelancing or commissioning. I hope to get this by June or July to give Wacom opportunities to tweak and fix later models (I hear their devices have a tendency to be janky during launch, especially with their recent Pro line.) Thanks for the review!
Having just bought a used iPad Pro 9.7, I was also worried about the device slowing down. It is the first gen iPad Pro and it performs very well. Apps such as Procreate and Affinity Photo can handle 600 DPI files at large canvas sizes just fine, Photoshop is also coming to the device later this year. Having used Wacom devices for years both tablet and Cintiqs, never again after switching to the iPad Pro.
@@Valk-Kilmer In that case, I figure it might just be dependent on luck of the draw. I have a large group of friends who are all artists and at least 3 out of 7 of them claim to have issues with their iPads, some refurbished and some newly bought at the Apple store. It seems whenever they use CSP or Illustrator Draw, their machine's GPU starts chugging and lagging a LOT in it's pen strokes. Most of my friends sell their stuff and all of them claim that the machine is phenomenal for sketching and simple pieces, but they prefer to do heavier painting on their PCs. It could be because some of them have the 64GB models, but given anything higher than that breaks $1,000 in price, they didn't really have a choice (we're all college students with minim wage jobs).
@@cocplayer4061 All artists prioritize different specs, and while I think the iPad's resolution is fantastic and it's design and performance is great, I'd rather have something with a large display and is durable and affordable. Apple has given me more than enough reasons to be a bit reluctant in their products, especially if it's something I'm going to be dependent on to help me improve a hobby I consider a big part of my livelihood.
@@edytagozdzik634 I never mentioned the screen resolution I mentioned the laminated display(or optical bonded display as wacom calls it). when u take a NON laminated display and u draw from above it feels like you're drawing left of the screen. like where u draw the line doesn't appear. that's because there's like 5mm of a gap between the screen. it's fine when drawing from above but not when on angles IMO. NOT LAMINATED = th-cam.com/video/gvebK7ZzmCo/w-d-xo.html LAMINATED= th-cam.com/video/anfHOZqGPnA/w-d-xo.html IMO it's a huge difference. IMO=in my opinion :D hope this helps
I just bought this tablet. I smiled so much when you started talking about appreciating the quality. Edit: This is my first tablet and I am so stoked!!
@ᗯOᑎᗪEᖇ ҡȗṅ Yes, this is a display tablet that requires a computer to connect to function. Wacom has the MobileStudio Pro which is a self contained drawing tablet/computer for a premium price.
Thank you so much. Please, what do you think about the Cintiq 13HD "Interactive Pen Display, refurbished"? This one cost US599... What are the differences between them please?
Ok I have a wacom intous 3 9×12 got way back in 2005, I would like to upgrade to draw on the screen itself but I don't know if this would be an upgrade or be the same, does the pen support rotation? I have the art pen 1 that works with the intous 3 and has rotation but its laughable at best. In your opinion is looking at the computer screen or tablet better for your artwork personally? Long question but just trying to make a smart investment
How do you feel in regards to the color gamut compared to your Wacom Cintiq Pro model? I have used a Yiynova 19MSPU and a UGEE 22" HD in the past (at home and at work), and I constantly had to proof artwork on my iMac's screen to make sure it was accurate - both tablet monitors were impossible to get 'right' as far as color and brightness go. This summer I went back to a 'regular' Intuos Pro desktop tablet because I was tired of fighting that. (not to mention both of the cheapies have cable management nightmares).
I own a cintiq 16 , it's a pretty great model as it comes to drawing but... it has only stands which go up 19 degrees up as the default , if you want your nephew to have a comfortable way of drawing you will have to spend extra 80 dollars on a stand.. , cintiq 13 pro already has a stand for free and it supports multi-touch which cintiq 16 doesn't , i recommend cintiq 13 pro for your nephew (:
Hello, can someone tell me if it is possible to use it as an Intuos, I mean, draw on the screen surface but with screen off, I have read that Cintiq Pros can use a function called "Tablet Mode" but Im not sure if this Cintiq 16 can do the same. Thanks in advance.
Is there an eraser on the back of the pen or is that just a design feature of the pen? I'm not very familiar with cintiqs because they were always way above my price range.
How bad is the parallax compared to older Cintiqs like 27 inch? Is it the same or something between old ones and Pro versions? And how bad are the colors compared to screens like macbook or iphone?
Now to compare this to one similar from Huion. Hmmm.....This will decide whether I stick with Wacom or go for Huion. I already knew the other alternatives were less than favorable, despite the price. My second graphics tablet was an older model Wacom Bamboo pen tablet. Small thing, but lovely to use. Plus, unlike my Kanvus tablet (my first tablet with the battery powered pen), the company still supports the software for their now no longer in production tablets. So here's to hoping Huion can top this, because if they can't, I'm sticking to Wacom, for sure.
Can you please tell me the exact product name you plugged that into. I recently bought a Cintiq and I'm not sure what kind of power supply/adapter it wants. Thank you!
Can I use this as a normal tablet (like an Intuos I mean)? So use a 32" 4k display and use this as a normal Intuos like tablet and then as a Cintiq when I want to do direct sketching?
Ive a question? I'm a video editor myself and was wondering if this tablet is big enough to edit on? The programs I use are mainly premiere and after effects.
I’ve been using the bamboo, then the Intuos Pro. My Cintiq 16 arrived yesterday and I am absolutely in love with it. Lineart is so easy, it’s such a lovely experience, I can’t stop grinning. It took me a long time to work out how to set it up, but apart from that - it’s done brilliantly! The only minor issue is the stands that are built in arent great, my tablet keeps falling over and it literally scares me!
Is a good and necesary review but honestly if you didn't use something like Huion Kamvas new Pro models or Artisul, XP Pen even Parblo new monitors you can't be able to name this products simple imitations. I like so much the unique design on Kamvas Pro 13 or GT156V2 also, the stand and construction is badass and I honestly don't see an imitation in that things (Cintiq 13HD is not on the same feeling or looking). By the way for me Wacom Pro Pen 2 worth every penny but the lack on this product is the need to buy a separate stand thats comes in all of competitors, another bug is certainly the non laminated screen and the color gamut (Competitors now are on 100% adobe rgb and some of them have laminated screens right now)... The pen is the BEST but is no have magical powers neither, even Artisul or XP Pen stylus have 8190 levels of pressure and tilt function on Kamvas Pro models. I like the new addition to the Wacom gama but I still preffer the uncoming Kamvas Pro 16 with laminated screen (virtually no paralax) I never use the back eraser on Wacom pens.
Good opinion man!!! I agree totally! For me Huion Kamvas new Pro models are badass. Some people have many issues even with Cintiq Pro models but the issues in Wacom competitors are less with the new releases
Just a note, Huion's most expensive model, the kamvas pro 22, is listed as 100% sRGB, which tanslates to about 72% NTSC. The smaller models such as the pro 12 are listed as 120% sRGB but if you want more screen space Huion is pretty much the same as this cintiq 16. I wish Huion would use Adobe RGB in their specs to make it an easier comparison, but judging by proportion 120% sRGB would be around 92% Adobe RGB, which is pretty good. This huion 16 you mentioned might be interesting tho, I'm always cheking display tablets for the day when my cintiq 24hd craps out. But one thing you gotta give to wacom is the build quality. Mine is about 7 years old and still working perfectly.
@@Hyzalker I love Wacom from 90's... my uncle have the third pen tablet on record, I think this product was made by Apple division and yep! it have a golden quality, a device used for years... Huion is used by many pro people today, look at Matias Zadicoff on Artstation for example, he works with a GT 221Pro (2017 model). The quality of some competitors is great anyway... In near future you can see this 100% adobe RGB and more for sure and bigger formats with full laminated screens. This new Cintiq line can cause a battle between brands hahaha
@@ASkywalker777 Absolutely! I'm sure the Huion tablets work very well, and even if I end up buying another wacom tablet I am glad there is finally competition to make wacom get more competitive both in terms of price and specs. I just hope my cintiq gets past the 10 year mark, by then the alternative options should be even better!
Can you use it away from the main computer because I’ve been wanting to get one of these as I’m really exited to do digital art and have almost saved enough money to get it but I’m very lazy and would like to do draw sitting on my bed and was wondering if I could take it to other places like when I visit family x
I was looking at the 16 pro cintiq. Im fine with the Xp Pen 15.6 over this barebones 16hd cintiq. Saving up to get the 24 inch cintiq pro for my late 34th bd present to myself.
Here in peru is the same problem, although the cintiq 16 base price should be 650$ here they are like 30% more (also the other brands sometimes are the same price as its counterpart on wacom!). Anyway, i just got my new cintiq16 with a great deal 28% off, (i ended up paying like 30$ more from the original base price) but it seems like is the best deal i could find (just for give you an idea xpen 15.6 here are sold at 900 -950 $). My recommedation: If you dont need it right now, try to find offers (i was using a wacom draw small tablet, not even intuos), but if money is not a problem, id say get wacom.
Also for me personally, I am so happy that this exists. I honestly don't need a Cintiq, and I am happy with my 2013 Intous Pro. However, I worry for my future in 5 to 6 years when my tablet dies. I do not want to buy the newer editions of the Pro, due to intense nib wear issues, which could really drain my budget. At that rate, why not buy a Cintiq? I'd save money in the long run. Only issue I had was, the alternatives didn't meet any of my standards, and I was always nervous over lack of support, certain apps not working, tablets getting updated etc. This is a GREAT alternative!
Honestly if you invest in a surface book you'll never look back at Wacom again. I have an xp pen artist 12 and it's amazing. Customer support is great too and very responsive.
@@Kipzi Meh XP Pen is fantastic but Surface not so much. I'm not saying the SB is a bad device, but saying it's comparable to a Cintiq is like saying an IPad is better than a PC for gaming. It's great if you're portable and a very casual user, but it's meant for a totally different thing. I've tested the pen of the Surface devices, and man is the drawing bad. On the flip side, it's amazing for business use, great for writing and presentations. The XP PEN is a great alternative. However, the pen tech hasn't caught up to Wacom, which is why it's not an alternative for me
@@ArtfulCosumDust I was talking about the surface book not the surface pro. About xp pen what do you mean the pen tech hasn't caught up? Mines 8192 sensitivity, doesn't need to be charged and has an eraser on the back
@@Kipzi I mean that applies to the SB as well. The XP Pen still doesent have tilt, it's inconsistant only appearing in the smaller models, but the larger ones still have no tilt, No eraser, Rechargeable pens. So yes, it hasn't caught up.
This was awesome, i watched a few reviews on this before finding yours and you were the only one to really go over some of the software side and the physical connections. Most people seem to just skip all that and just show it running. Thanks for a great vid!
I've been looking into drawing tablets (I got Huion P950 just to start for now) but this is not a bad option I will add it to the consideration; thank you :) The wacom pro's are very expensive for me, so I like the cheaper option.
h950 is an intuos pros equivalent. I just got an XP artist 12 for xmas and its like the most adorable thing ever. You should look up youtube reviews on it, its sooo pretty too.
Hi. Do you think a pro pen 2 would work well on my Cintiq 13HD with all the features? I'm pretty happy with the pen that was included in the 13HD kit I bought 3 years ago but if the pro pen 2 can add new things I'll get one. Thanks a lot.
I don't think the Pro Pen 2 will work on the 13HD. I think you are getting that confused with the Cintiq 13 Pro. Here's the compatibility list: Wacom Intuos® Pro PTH-660, PTH-860 Wacom Cintiq® Pro DTH-1320, DTH-1620 Wacom MobileStudio Pro DTH-W1320, DTH-W1620
Hey Aaron! I have a question, hope you can help me! Is the cintiq 16 (not pro) not suitable for print and animation? In a review it says " the Cintiq Pro may be necessary for artists who work in animation or produce work to be printed", since the resolution and color accuracy is not as great as with the cintiq pro.
The Cintiq 16 would work fine for print and animation. You may want to draw on the Cintiq and proof your colors on a more accurate monitor in that case.
hello ! i hesitate on the wacom cintiq 16 i want it bur there isno multitouch.i wonder if we can connect the intuos pro to the cintiq 16 for zooming just zooming.i draw on cintiq and i zoom in with intuos pro its possible? thank you
You'd be connecting both tablets to the same computer. Both tablets should work at the same time and I believe you could use touch on the Intuos Pro and draw on the Cintiq 16.
I have one. I put the pen down on the table and it rolled off and fell nib first onto the floor. Afterwards, it rattled and I decided to disassemble as it had stopped working. The button cap on the pcb had sheared off so while the Cintiq 16 has a good build quality, I'd argue the Pro Pen 2 could be more robust. I now have to spend AUD 150 on a new one.
I would weigh owning this against a huion pro kamvas 13 or 22 - those 2 huion models are getting a ton of positive reviews from lots of artists and animators.
Positive reviews because they got a free Huion. These alternative companies basically have told me they want to review my review before I publish it, otherwise they won't send me a tablet. I'm not having the same issue with Wacom, they let me be honest and say what I want.
@@Mp_995 I apologize if it came off that way. I'm simply trying to spread some awareness. I'm 100% certain there are positive reviews for just about any tablet that are honest and not at all influenced by a 3rd party. But in my own recent experience, some companies have pretty much been telling me I have to get my review approved first before it can go live. That's concerning and highly unusual considering I have never experienced that attitude from Wacom and most other companies whose products I have reviewed. That leads me to the assumption that other influencers would have a very difficult time saying anything negative about a product. All I'm suggesting is that people take reviews with a grain of salt.
I own Huion Kamvas Pro 13. I'd say its not really comfortable. I dunno.. Maybe because im coming from pen tablet. And still not adapting to it But in term of precision, I like my pen tablet more. End up using it only for coloring for now, because I need to work fast. Still done sketch with old intuos CTL-480. If cintiq feel is similar to intuos, then I believe Kamvas Pro 13, is worse in term of "comfort" when you draw.
I've owned multiple Huion H610 pros over the past six years and got a GT-191 in late 2017. I started having issues with it less than half a year in, and after troubleshooting for WEEKS with no resolution, Huion offered to send me a replacement--IF I left a five star glowing review on Amazon. I've never had a Huion tablet last longer than a year. Most of them last only a few months. One came dead in the box. If a review is from an "unboxing" perspective or even just a few weeks or a month of use it's not going to reflect the problems that come with even short term use. After years of sinking money into Huion products I gave up and now have an Intuos Pro. I put off getting one for so long because they're so expensive and the alternatives were much more affordable. But you really do get what you pay for, and it's crap. I wouldn't trust any positive review of Huion tablets at face value; I don't think people are necessarily lying about their experiences, again, I just think the issues only show up over a longer term than most reviews reflect. I LIKED my GT-191 for the short time that it worked. But almost a year since Huion told me to leave them a good review if I wanted a replacement, I'm stuck with a $500 paperweight. If this budget Cintiq had been available back then, there wouldn't have been any contest about what to get.
this tablet looks amazing! But one thing i couln't find is do you have to plug it in your computer/laptop or is it like a build in computer or like if you plug it in once it saves into the tablet (?) (excuse my horrible spelling) if anyone knows please let me know since i really want to know :)
Thank you so much! The comparison was really well explained, I was wondering what the big difference was between the 16 pro and why it was almost twice as expensive, thank you!
Thank you for this review. I use a Mac and a large external monitor as my work set up, with a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet that has no image display so I'm looking to upgrade. Would you recommend getting the Cintiq 16, or the Cintiq 13 HD Interactive pen display?
Do you know if the stand for the 16" works on the 16" pro version? Cause it seems more adjustable than the recommended pro's stand, but I might be wrong there
Thanks for the vid aaron! Really helpful. Ive a (maybe dumb) doubt. After turning off the tablet (with a laprop still on), do i have to disconnect the cables (hdmi usb) and the power source of the cintiq? and if i wanted to disconnect them from the ports, i just need to unplug them? or do i need to press something om the computer?
No, you can leave all of the cables connected. The only issue might be if you were using a multi-monitor setup, things might adjust to single monitor when you turn off the Cintiq. If you find a Window is missing, it might be on the Cintiq. USB and HDMI are OK to unplug from the laptop at any time.
Been wondering how the parallax on this device is - I own a Huion Kamwas GT-221 Pro and I don't have any problems with it, but the parallax and the washed out colors are bothering me quite a bit the more I use it. Would it be an upgrade from the Huion to this? I worry I might not like the size too. :/ (On top of that, I had more problems with Wacom drivers than Huion drivers to be completely honest.)
They are about the same, but the pen is better and the screen is larger on the Cintiq 16. The Cintiq 13HD has a slightly higher color gamut and a USB port.
Can you use this tablet for video editing / after effects,.. It's not listed on the wacom website, but my Intuos isn't either and I use that one for video editing too. Thanks for the review!
Thank you for the review. One question I would like to ask is that the feeling to draw on between Cintiq 16 glass and the edge glass on the pro level is different? I find it soft to draw on the edge glass which i do like and wonder how would it feel on this one. More hard and glassy feel? Thank u very much.
I have a question, I got a Wacom (16) awhile back and the quality seems to be higher on my Mac than it is on the Wacom, is this normal or can it be changed?
This is great affordable cintiq finally. I have one issue though. Does anyoen know if they gonna make classic art pen pro version? This wacom pro pen 2 is too thick for my hands. I prefer thin profile of classic art pen.
awesome video ! the step up price is small against a Large Intuos, please create a video to show how it works on Linux and Gimp, this would be awesome ! GREAT review ! i'm sold !
I've not used that model, but in my experience Wacom makes a much better product. The reviews on the Huion say that the lines are wobbly: www.amazon.com/Graphics-Drawing-Function-Battery-Free-Pressure/dp/B07BGZ81N3 I had the same experience with wobbly lines for XP-Pen and Parblo, as well as other common quality issues that plague these non-Wacom brands. If you want my recommendation, I would go with a Wacom tablet. I think the Cintiq 16 is great. Here's a comparison video that will show you the kind of problems you might have with the Huion: th-cam.com/video/0Q2tCvdcLII/w-d-xo.html
So I was wondering, is the screen actually 15,6 or is it that the size of the entire tablet?? coz in that case, i'd really like to know how big the screen really is. thanks.
The cintiq 16 doesn't seem to be worth the extra money over alternatives. The cintiq pros however are best in class and you could, (for the time being) justify getting one of those if you have the dough.
I currently have wacom intuos . I was honestly planning on getting huion 191 V2 because I didn't want 800$ cintiq 13. A bit too small for the price. But I was so worried about the problems I have heard in regards to huion. So when I saw this I knew that this would be the best investment for me. It's a good size not too big or too small, and I know that it will last. I know that taking good care of your stuff is key but for sure I have heard better stuff about wacom in that regard.
UnyieldingDefiance you should check the xp-pen 16 or 15.6 then, it's 3 time cheaper than wacom they say for a relly good quality it's pretty impressive
i disagree. i would say the pros (12 and 16) don't have anything over the cintiq 16. touch screen? you don't need it. glass to the edge? also don't need. less parallax is certainly nice but not double the price nice.
Great review! Do you think it is worth going from the old 13hd to one of these? Do their screens feel the same and is the performance equal? Thankyou for your help :)
It´s hard to tell how much the 4K display will benefit to justify such a price difference. I am having questions if buying this one or the pro. That said, thanks so much for your awesome videos, really appreciated. Cheers from Spain, :)
Seems like a nice display. But basically the same as an old Companion Hybrid, that I have. Only noticeable difference- slightly bigger screen and not-so-flimsy connector. Anyway thanks for a review!
Honestly, I don't think the difference would be noticeable. Recenly I got for cheap Intuos 3 9x11 and it feels better than Intuos5m. I suppose because of slightly bigger surface. but I have absolutely no problems with its 1024 (I think) pressure levels.
@@serhiirudenko6183 If you had used about 4000 pressure levels or so it might not be as noticeable but trust me I had an intuos tablet with 1024 and switched to a 8192 pressure level tablet and for me the gap is a lot. Some people want to go with what they are used to though, I understand that

Its funny how a screen tablet is cheaper than phones these days
Not sure if funny or depressing. :'(
As it should! since monitors tablets are just regular monitors with added benefit of using a pen with it. You cant use it without a computer. Smartphones are as powerful as computers nowadays.
@@seraby7151 What? Chinese brands have shown already you make a profit selling flagship hw for 400€(xiaomi mi 9).
I love it.
Are they coming down in price? Looking on amazon right now they still look to be 2-3 x higher than their competition.
About how long do you think would be a good wait until there's newer, better generations?
Thank you!
This review convinced me to buy this tablet. I LITERALLY just went and bought it because of you. Your reviews are the best on the internet.
Congrats and enjoy!
How do you like the wacom 16 tablet?
Do you use any kind of tablet for drawing? If you do what would you recommend?
I was thinking about it, but didn't read pretty good things about it especially on the cable connection and it don't looks that smooth :(
Did you tried the xp-pen artist 16 or 15.6 please ? I would like some advices on what you think about this tablets if you have time. (And the one I talked about before if you can) Thank you really much :)
Lol a cintiq pro 13 for $325 you're lying
@@yugiyami8642 I'm pretty sure he was saying he picked up a Huion Pro 13 for 325$, not a Cintiq.
How's the Huion treating you after a few months of use mate? I'm in the market so I like to hear from those that have had a Wacom alternative for a long while.
@@ClockworkWyrm no the user was saying cintiq it was a mix up on their part.
BUT I also want to run an external display......how can I run both? having a few extra USB ports would be nice as well!! thanks!
Thank you for this wonderful review of the Cintiq 16, you help my Mommy and Daddy pick the right tablet for me! Stay amazing!!!
If you have a Macbook pro with USBC, would a usb c to usb adapter work no problem to connect the device?
It should
FYI You can use your intuos pro simultaneously with the cintiq 16 for its express keys so that you dont have to buy the express keypad accessory if you already have an intuos pro. They work well together.
🤯🤯🤯
Can I connect Corel Painter 2023 to this Wacom Cintiq 16?
Yes
Does it come with the remote, or do I have to buy it separately? REALLY need my quick undo button while I try to learn how to draw...
I wonder how much would a 13 inch one cost if there will be one
I'm glad this exists I was too scared to invest in any of the alternatives since hearing bunch of bad things about them (eg. they're not durable, customer service is a joke, they make people leave overly positive reviews on amazon/youtube/whatever to make others buy their products, bunch of driver issues etc.)
I don't want to play russian roulette while choosing a device to draw on lol .. it kinda makes me anxious
Yeah, Wacoms ain't perfect either. I heard the cintiq pro line is quite a miss on their point. (with the expectation of the bigger ones)
And also the new intuos pros which destroy nibs like crazy.
I've been looking to jump from pencil and paper to digital art for a while now.
just as a passion not profession and so I'm glad i was able to find this video and appreciate you

I realized I only needed something to show me the ropes.
Thank you very much for the information. With this I can finally make everything from Batman fan art to
working on landscapes; a particularly weak spot for me.
Hello. Could I ask if there is a big difference between the parallax of the cintiq 16 and of the cintiq 13 pro?

I just bought this tablet. I smiled so much when you started talking about appreciating the quality.
Edit: This is my first tablet and I am so stoked!!
Congrats!
lucky TwT i had to wait till it's my birthday. (it's on Dec 15)
@ᗯOᑎᗪEᖇ ҡȗṅ Yes, this is a display tablet that requires a computer to connect to function. Wacom has the MobileStudio Pro which is a self contained drawing tablet/computer for a premium price.
Mind if I have the link to buy this stand at 3:20 ?
Thank you so much. Please, what do you think about the Cintiq 13HD "Interactive Pen Display, refurbished"? This one cost US599... What are the differences between them please?
That was a beautiful drawing you did. Truly.
Does it need to be connected to a computer in order to work?
How do you feel in regards to the color gamut compared to your Wacom Cintiq Pro model? I have used a Yiynova 19MSPU and a UGEE 22" HD in the past (at home and at work), and I constantly had to proof artwork on my iMac's screen to make sure it was accurate - both tablet monitors were impossible to get 'right' as far as color and brightness go. This summer I went back to a 'regular' Intuos Pro desktop tablet because I was tired of fighting that. (not to mention both of the cheapies have cable management nightmares).
is it viable to use cintiq 16 instead of intous and see the result on a 4k monitor- how would it look?
thanks
Yes. See the side by side comparison of 1080 to 4K in my video for an example of how it would look.
Have you considered making reviews for 2-in-1 laptops like the surface products? I was just curious because they would be great for artists on the go.
i'll give you a quick review. the drawing is not up to par with wacom. i've had one for years and never used it for drawing..
My Cintiq 12WX recently broke after using it for years...I wonder if the 16 is a straight upgrade in comparison?
What is better... the cintiq 13 pro or cintiq 16? I want to get my nephew who wants a drawing tablet a birthday gift.
You can use Screen Toggle on the Cintiqs to toggle your cursor to a different display: 101.wacom.com/userhelp/en/ButtonFunctions.htm
I bought this and it arrived yesterday, I LOVE it
I bought mine yesterday now I just have to waittttttt
@@sjsjdjfjf5116 - You'll really like it
Julian Lewis I hope so!
@@sjsjdjfjf5116 - You will - it's a really great piece of kit 😊
I have heard about the screen getting scratch so fast, would be interesting hearing now how much does that screen lasts??
Yes. There is a display toggle button that can make the tablet active on your other displays.
Ive a question? I'm a video editor myself and was wondering if this tablet is big enough to edit on? The programs I use are mainly premiere and after effects.
Will the tablet only turn on when it's plugged into a PC?
I’ve been using the bamboo, then the Intuos Pro. My Cintiq 16 arrived yesterday and I am absolutely in love with it.
Lineart is so easy, it’s such a lovely experience, I can’t stop grinning. It took me a long time to work out how to set it up, but apart from that - it’s done brilliantly! The only minor issue is the stands that are built in arent great, my tablet keeps falling over and it literally scares me!
Are you sure the legs are pushed out all the way?
papa snarf yeah!! I just get a heart attack as every now and then mine snap closer
@@Hyzalker Well i'm not a Mac user but you can see the recent Mast 22 by Parblo, I didn't research so much yet...
Can you use it away from the main computer because I’ve been wanting to get one of these as I’m really exited to do digital art and have almost saved enough money to get it but I’m very lazy and would like to do draw sitting on my bed and was wondering if I could take it to other places like when I visit family x
If you have a laptop, then yes. Needs to be connected to some type of computer.
I was looking at the 16 pro cintiq. Im fine with the Xp Pen 15.6 over this barebones 16hd cintiq. Saving up to get the 24 inch cintiq pro for my late 34th bd present to myself.
Hi Aaron, I need your help!
Here in Brazil the Cintiq 16 and the Huion GT-221 Pro are costing the same price, which one do I buy?
Here in peru is the same problem, although the cintiq 16 base price should be 650$ here they are like 30% more (also the other brands sometimes are the same price as its counterpart on wacom!). Anyway, i just got my new cintiq16 with a great deal 28% off, (i ended up paying like 30$ more from the original base price) but it seems like is the best deal i could find (just for give you an idea xpen 15.6 here are sold at 900 -950 $).
My recommedation: If you dont need it right now, try to find offers
(i was using a wacom draw small tablet, not even intuos), but if money is not a problem, id say get wacom.
Here's the compatibility list: Wacom Intuos® Pro PTH-660, PTH-860
Wacom Cintiq® Pro DTH-1320, DTH-1620
Wacom MobileStudio Pro DTH-W1320, DTH-W1620
Perfect! Now, I'm just going to wait for around 20-inch variation for this new line!
Perfect! Now, I’m just going to wait for around 20 years to afford this!
@@aaronrutten Thank you so much! Thats really good news! :D and awesome video!
Is the Wacom Cintiq 16 compatible with the HP Elitebook 840 G1?
Is there a specific Ergotron model you have to buy for this cintiq?
hello ! i hesitate on the wacom cintiq 16 i want it bur there isno multitouch.i wonder if we can connect the intuos pro to the cintiq 16 for zooming just zooming.i draw on cintiq and i zoom in with intuos pro its possible? thank you
You'd be connecting both tablets to the same computer. Both tablets should work at the same time and I believe you could use touch on the Intuos Pro and draw on the Cintiq 16.
@@aaronrutten great thank you you are the best
The huion is what I purchased last year just couldn't justify the prices of the cintiqs.
And still not adapting to it
But in term of precision, I like my pen tablet more.
Cause it seems more adjustable than the recommended pro's stand, but I might be wrong there
Would you say this is a great tablet for a beginner? I'd really like to get the Pro 24 but it's kind of out of my budget.
Yes it is
Would you recommend this tablet for photo editing.
I work with PS CC 2020.
Thanks for the video and the advice.
If you don't need high color accuracy, then yes.
@@aaronrutten Thanks for the response :)
Can it work on andriod
Where do you get that stand? I can't find it on Wacom's store.
It will be available soon.
(On top of that, I had more problems with Wacom drivers than Huion drivers to be completely honest.)
I don't know how it compares to your Huion, but the parallax reduction is pretty good. I wouldn't say it is perfect, but certainly not abnormal.
Aaron Rutten Aaron Rutten I see, thank you so much for the insight! I'll probably be looking into getting it in this case. 🤔
J- Arts I have it for a year in march! Haven't struggled with it so far
J- Arts Anytime!!
If I wanted to upgrade from a Cintiq13HD do you think the Cintiq 16 would be better? worse? the same?
They are about the same, but the pen is better and the screen is larger on the Cintiq 16. The Cintiq 13HD has a slightly higher color gamut and a USB port.
Can you use this tablet for video editing / after effects,.. It's not listed on the wacom website, but my Intuos isn't either and I use that one for video editing too. Thanks for the review!
what drawing software are you using?
Thank you for the review. One question I would like to ask is that the feeling to draw on between Cintiq 16 glass and the edge glass on the pro level is different? I find it soft to draw on the edge glass which i do like and wonder how would it feel on this one. More hard and glassy feel? Thank u very much.
To me, the Cintiq 16 feels about the same as the Cintiq 27 QHD and Cintiq Pro 24. The Cintiq Pro 32 feels a little grainier.
I have a question, I got a Wacom (16) awhile back and the quality seems to be higher on my Mac than it is on the Wacom, is this normal or can it be changed?
cuz mac has way better better resolution than wacom or normal tablet, to find the one matches up, the tablet will be insanely pricy.
What's the difference bet NTSC and RGB?
This is great affordable cintiq finally. I have one issue though. Does anyoen know if they gonna make classic art pen pro version? This wacom pro pen 2 is too thick for my hands. I prefer thin profile of classic art pen.
awesome video ! the step up price is small against a Large Intuos,
please create a video to show how it works on Linux and Gimp, this would be awesome !
GREAT review ! i'm sold !
have you experienced any wear to the screen whatsoever? or is it completely scratch resistant? I am debating buying a screen protector
It comes with a screen protector pre-applied.
Is it compatible with Win 8 and 10 ?
Can you use Photoshop on the cintiq without having to connect it to another device?
No, you cannot.
Can it be used while connected to a closed laptop?
That depends on whether you can change your laptop settings so that the computer does not power off or sleep when you close the lid.
Aaron Rutten alright! I'm going to try that!
I like the sound of this with a matt surface.
Which one better? Wacom cintiq 16 or Huion Kamvas 13 pro? Helppppp
I've not used that model, but in my experience Wacom makes a much better product. The reviews on the Huion say that the lines are wobbly: www.amazon.com/Graphics-Drawing-Function-Battery-Free-Pressure/dp/B07BGZ81N3
I had the same experience with wobbly lines for XP-Pen and Parblo, as well as other common quality issues that plague these non-Wacom brands. If you want my recommendation, I would go with a Wacom tablet. I think the Cintiq 16 is great.
Here's a comparison video that will show you the kind of problems you might have with the Huion: th-cam.com/video/0Q2tCvdcLII/w-d-xo.html
Do you think it could connect to a chromebook plus?
Nope. Windows or Mac are required
So I was wondering, is the screen actually 15,6 or is it that the size of the entire tablet?? coz in that case, i'd really like to know how big the screen really is. thanks.
Its the screen!
Hi Aaron, is this also good for 3D sculpting like in zbrush?
Yes
The cintiq 16 doesn't seem to be worth the extra money over alternatives. The cintiq pros however are best in class and you could, (for the time being) justify getting one of those if you have the dough.
Wacom over all has better support and quality then Chinese knockoffs.
I imagine the claim "doesn't seem to be worth it" really depends on what you're using the tablet for.
Great review! Do you think it is worth going from the old 13hd to one of these? Do their screens feel the same and is the performance equal?
Thankyou for your help :)
which one is better wacom cintiq 13hd or wacom cintiq 16? which one you recommend?
They are both good, you'll have to look at the specs to see which one meets your needs.
It´s hard to tell how much the 4K display will benefit to justify such a price difference. I am having questions if buying this one or the pro. That said, thanks so much for your awesome videos, really appreciated. Cheers from Spain, :)
Hmmm, could you make a video comparing the cintiq with some cheaper displayers like the xp-pen of the same size?
Yes, it will be published soon
Great overview.
Is 210 nits bright enough? Can you see/notice the pixels when working close?
Seems like a nice display. But basically the same as an old Companion Hybrid, that I have. Only noticeable difference- slightly bigger screen and not-so-flimsy connector.
Anyway thanks for a review!
What about the Pro Pen 2? Companion Hybrid didn't have that.
Some people want to go with what they are used to though, I understand that
Nice detailed review! Could you consider this as an upgrade coming from their cintiq 13HD line?
