On what do you bait them, here in SA if you catch them you use floating bait or maize or what we call mealie bom, a maize corn crushed to fine pieces then water is added to a make it a paste, then place the maize in the bomb or use the "floaties" to attract them
ive been koi fishing for a while now and have found a perfect spo that is always packed with koi, its at the bottom of the hill on Hudson Street near riverlea, to get there you alk down the hammond park walkway and at the bottom you make a small turn left and there is a nice cove that has only let me down once, the way i get them is by chucking in a handful of corn and waiting about a minute and then they should all start coming in. where is the creek you fished at in this video?
there is also a creek called Mangaharakeke stream that is jsut down the road from where i live, its just before the Newell road turn off, the only problem that you might face is that you have to make a small detour up and then over the motor way as they have blocked off thr newell road turn off, the entrance is behind a gate but its council property so anyone cn go fish in it, times like now arent the best becasue a b=small part of a bank has collapsed (probably from the koi digging and eating) which has made thecreek very dirty, the last time i was there i caught a 30 inch trout with worms, corn is the best bait there because of all the eels

@@DazzaBurns22did you get down there for a fish mate? I've been Rudd fishing with my kids at the lakes but would be good to get down the Waikato for something bigger!
@@Fredward1986 yes mate, I went about a week after this post, or my last messages. Only stayed for an hour because it started raining heavy but in that time I pulled one out around 6 or 7 pound in weight. Just simple ledger fishing with a hair rig and using sweetcorn on one rod and luncheon meat cubes on the other. Can't remember which one caught that day but both work well usually. It doesn't look like a spot for fish because the water is very dirty coloured but they are in there 👍
Never done freshwater fishing.. Live not far from Hoods Landing boat ramp, Waiuku. Thinking take the young grandchildren, with light softbait rigs, maybe go up the river, or creeks, and drift down in the cabin boat we go over the bar in reguarly. What hooks, bait, close to shores??? Your comments experiance would be appreciated. Maybe even a Fishing koi for dumies?
I have never tried fishing for them with the rod only with the bow but it looks quite fun. I have shot close to 100 with the bow and the biggest is 12 pounds
I know round about where it is, but Edgecumb park has a little stream thing and its also close to the Waikato river, so I don’t exactly know any good spots around there

Just sweet corn, which I believe is the same thing as maize

Steps any of the canals around hoods have carp,tried and failed but this fella gives more ideas on what to do.

Do you need a license to fish for Koi?
Nope, but be careful when fishing in a water system that also has sports fish such as trout, incase you accidentally catch one or a ranger comes by
