As a Native New Yorker, I have to say that it is absolutely not for everyone. The best thing to do before arriving is the same you would do for Disney DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Ask questions before arriving believe me it is an amazing city. Yes it’s noisy and certain places smell and you will meet amazing helpful and crazy people here they come from all over lol.However, if you go to all the places NY is famous for you won’t be disappointed. Ride the train or the bus or walk. Traffic can be crazy unless you are going far don’t drive. Hop on hop off tour buses are the best to see everything. It’s definitely an adventure. If you like boring and quiet it’s not for you but you are always welcomed.
Love this one Amy and how exciting that you got a tattoo in NYC?? It's on my bucket list. I've been to NYC 3 times, most recently this past Christmas. You need more time there. It is crazy on your first visit but then you start to get the "feel" for the city. We rode our first subway on this last trip, I'll be posting that video soon - it was quite exciting! The only thing I hated about it was the dirty hold rails! I hope you girls decide to go back another time and give NYC another shot.

What we did was pay for a bus tour...you can go all over the city...see everything you want to see..the bus is hop on hop off whenever you want..we had a two day pass..saw everything excluding going to the statue of liberty..only way to go

This just reminds me of all the reasons this southern Floridian girl hated NYC in college and moved back to Florida. People are rude, the honking is horrible, the timing gives people anxiety, etc

My daughter and I just spent a week in NYC. We stayed in NJ. We had a blast, but the only complicated thing we found was the subway. We only took it once, much easier to walk around. This week back at work my feet hurt from walking around NY. Worth it though I'd go back, fabulous experience.
I totally feel you! in august I went to NYC for the second time in my life with my husband, he had never been. it is a lot of wandering until you figure it out and our GPS did the same exact thing! we had enough after the 3 day trip hahaha

You really should plan on visiting NYC again but during the winter holiday season-- the city really shines between Thanksgiving and Christmas when all of the holiday lights and decorations are up and all of the department stores like Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylors and Bloomingdale's have their best window dressings on display, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is up and you can go ice skating under the tree, as well as ice skating underneath the stars at Wollman Rink in Central Park and also at Bryant Park across from the NY public Library on 42nd street and 6th Avenue. The Radio City Christmas Show with The Rockettes on 6th Ave and 50th St is also something that you must experience at least once in your lifetime. There is magic in the air in NYC during Christmas time-- imagine Disneyworld for adults!
When we stayed in NYC before our cruise, we stayed at The World Center hotel next to ground zero. It took 3 hours from the airport to the hotel in that crazy traffic, there is no way we would ever drive ourselves around there.
What a shame that you did not stop for any Chinese food or Italian food near Canal Street. Next time, for sure (and try the dim sum), a NYC staple in Chinatown. Subways are faster and cheaper if you know where you are going. Shame I did not know it or I would have given you the grand tour!
The best way to get around NYC is to take the subway to as close as you can to your destination, then walk the rest of the way. Study the MTA map online, and look up the addresses of the places you want to go. This will save you a lot of time and nerves.
This video made me homesick! But I can guarantee you. It seems overwhelming like any strange place but I have a 100x the amount of anxiety driving on I-4 in Orlando than driving in NYC! It’s not that bad. Just a lot of stop and go and sitting in traffic.

thats because amy is staying in MIDTOWN specifically times square the whole time. the upper east side west side, Greenwich Village, Soho are some of the most beautiful places in the world but where they were, were the most crowded, tourist trap places of the city
It's not. It's one of my favorite places in the country. That's coming from a southern country girl. You just have to take the subway and plan out every second of your day. Winging it in N.Y. is not really a good idea. Taxis and uber is not the best way to get around. Walk or take the subway. I was totally shocked how safe it was and how nice people were.
New York is amazing just get out of midtown 😁 we visited twice for a week each time and loved it , we found everyone to be friendly and helpful but you must research your transport before you go ,get a subway map and plan!

The Metro in DC is nice. The New York Subway is a little scary.

If you should have gone to SHAKE SHACK! That's the quintessential NYC burger-- you won't find better quality and value!
I’m from nyc and moved to Orlando. I think they are from Orlando and there are few shake shacks in Orlando. Its not special just expensive.
