We call them King Mackerel in the U.S. It does look like a Wahoo tho... If I were to eat one it would surely be the Wahoo! The mackerel,to me,is too oily. Great catch tho! Yours is the only fishing channel I watch. Keep on catching them!
Don't use bait!!!!!!!!!! that's my number one tip. Not only does using bait support the worst kind of destruction to the fisheries, it's also really boring and you catch the bottom aka weed all the time! I suggest using artificial baits like we do, hard body lures or soft baits. SOLVED
for sure top water lures will help assuming that you're talking about an alternative to live or cut bait bottom fishing but if you're talking about floating seaweed, like after a big storm, nothing much will help. I fish in Bali and seaweed is a big problem both fishing with dropper rigs and top water lures, I guess because seaweed farming is practiced here. also plastic bags are a major headache. unfortunately, I have a bad shoulder so I can't throw big lures for long periods but like cavy said bottom fishing can be boring as hell. currently I am trying weighted casting/popping floats that can be used with a wide variety of baits both artificial and natural...for example with a jig or a bucktail (Taylor aka bluefish love it and I reckon jacks aka GT will too) or even a sinking stick bait. or for natural bait you have live fish, shrimp or crabs or dead cut/shaped baits (for grouper etc). they can be set to present the bait in the depth you choose deep, middle or shallow and can be worked like a popper to stimulate the fish. if using live or cut bait you should use circle hooks to avoid gut hooked fish, because even if you are trying to catch dinner you might hook an undesirable (as food) species that still deserves to live. hope that helps.

Yeah brother we are lucky to still have good fishing here in Australia but honestly it's getting worse every year, there not as many fish as there used to be. Mostly because of ill practises and of course the commercial fishing industry - thats the worst! Keen to head over to the states at some stage of sure Florida will be on the list I'm sure, cheers!

In my opinion one of the important thing about choosing locations is done by having knowing what fish you want to target. Once you worked that out, you literally just have to research research research about that fish. For an extreme but simple example is if I wanted to go catch a Spanish Mackerel I would go fish Sydney Harbour! So just know you target and find out where they live / migrate, water temperature is key here... Have fun!
We call them King Mackerel and there is a smaller one we call Spanish Mackerel but def not Wahoo they get much bigger meaner and toothier than all the mackerels and my fave to eat too!!
Wahoo and mackerel are in the same family. The difference between some species of mackerel and a wahoo is a subtle as a fold of skin over the lip. I live in Florida and wahoo fish all the time. I’d have thought that was a wahoo too. Doesn’t look like our species of mackerel.

It does look like a wahoo, but that’s a mackerel. Stripes are different on a wahoo.
What you guys call spanish mackerel down under is not what we call spanish that's for sure.
Wahoo and mackerel are in the same family. The difference between some species of mackerel and a wahoo is a subtle as a fold of skin over the lip. I live in Florida and wahoo fish all the time. I’d have thought that was a wahoo too. Doesn’t look like our species of mackerel.

Yes our Spanish Mackerel are huge, that's sad because you think the name Spanish should mean you guys have the BIGGEST ones hahahaha
