ABOUT GODDAMN TIME! The kitchen fight of The Raid 2 is one of the single greatest fight scenes not just in action movie history but in film history PERIOD! It’s the first action sequence that actually left me physically exhausted.
I'm not sure you needed to extend it from "action movies" to "all movies in history" when action movies exist for fights and hold the best fight scenes of all time. That's like saying "this not only had the best romance in romantic movies but all movies PERIOD!"
Fun fact: JJ Abrams originally brought Iko Uwais and the other Raid actors onto The Force Awakens because he wanted them to choreograph a lightsaber fight scene later on in the film, but he ended up finding their suggestions to be too violent, so they ended up being relegated to a cameo.

Because Julie Estelle (Hammer Girl) was known as a romantic leading lady before she did "The Raid 2," Iko Uwais (Rama) was trying so hard to be careful with her that during the fight in the hallway, when he was supposed to throw her into the wall, he picked her up, barely tapped her against the wall, and gently lowered her to the floor. She had to convince him that he could be a little rougher than that. I thought that was kind of a cute story.
It’s great cause I never would’ve assumed that, there’s a part in the night comes for us where you can tell one of the characters that Julie Estelle is fighting isn’t really as much of a martial artist but in this I more just thought it cool that they had a female combatant

You should check out "The Night Comes For Us" starring Joe Taslim (Sgt. Jaka from "The Raid"), Iko Uwais (Rama from "The Raid" and "The Raid 2") and Julie Estelle (Hammer Girl from "The Raid 2"). The the style of the choreography is done to look less graceful but much more brutal.
Some of the most visceral fight scenes in any live action film. Dual-wielding hammers was low-key terrifying to me specifically. One look at that and I just knew she was going to be brutal. Either way, great reaction! I think I personally gravitate to the first movie more but this was still as awesome, and it has more spectacle. I'll never get tired of martial arts films. According to the DVD commentary track, Prakoso's wife married him when she was a naive young girl impressed by his wealth and high style back when he used to flaunt the money he made as Bangun's most trusted man. When she found out that he was a professional killer, she was horrified and disgusted, so she left him and took their son with her. This made him ashamed and regretful about being a hitman, but he still won't quit because he's so intensely loyal to Bangun. As a self imposed penance he gave up the luxurious life style he once had and lives as a vagabond, giving most of the money Bangun pays him to his wife and son. To feel less guilty about being a professional killer, he tries to avoid killing people he doesn't absolutely have to. That's why, when you see him kill his first target in the movie, he doesn't use his machete on the victim's underlings.
I remember 7 years ago it was announced that the director of The Raid movies was in talks to make a Deathstroke movie with Joe Manganiello set to star. GOD I WOULD’VE LOVED TO SEE THAT!
I like how this movie takes its time with certain things, like the phone call with Rama and his family. The scene isn't that long, but it does so much for us as an audience. Anyway, I remember when you guys first did the Raid 1 reaction. Glad you finally did the sequel!

This car chase fight is great, and my favorite parts are when it shows that car tumble through that building with an inside view and an outside view and the scene when the guy's hanging out of the car window and his head bounces off the road then he slams into the door of the oncoming car. This damn movie looks SO PAINFUL!
I love this movie. I love the first movie. I love all the movies made by directors and stunt coordinators who saw these two movies and were inspired to make their own versions.
Notice the cold color palate used for The Assassin like the white kitchen and bluish/greenish fluorescent lights in the setting for his final fight with Rama. The director mentioned that they took this cold motif even further in the scene when he kills Prakoso by making it snow in Jakarta where the temperature ranges from 75 and 93 °F.
Yeah honestly the first few minutes of the film really set the tone when they're willing to take out someone so important so brutally yet non-chalantly. Also fun fact those "Velociraptor Claws" are called Karambit knives. I think you guys probably saw it before on the Snake vs Sam Fisher Death Battle before.

Nah The Raid is more violent than those you have mentioned,I liked The Night Come for Us but the level of violence and intensity The Raid gives is just on another level

Despite a limited budget, the movie boasts impressive choreography, editing, and production values. It has also served as an inspiration for many subsequent action movies, particularly in terms of fight choreography.
There are an incredible amount of amazing action movies if you go from 2014 back. Idk why it has to "hold up even now" when action movies today are by and large worse than the ones from 40 years ago. A decade is not that long, not much has evolved in action movie techniques, the period between the 50's and 70's then the 70's and 80's experienced much more growth.
