I love the idea of giving the wheelchair a nickname! I had to get a wheelchair for FND as well. It's blue :)

@@taysresilient I think getting a wheelchair is worth bringing up in conversation. If anything should be used for your safety, especially on bad days.

@@taysresilient I hope your family and doctor can agree on the best approach for your and your safety. If it helps, a wheelchair is saved me from hitting my head so many times. Sometimes I even have to strapped in so I don't "slinky" out. You can tell them someone else with FND uses a wheelchair and see if that helps.

@@taysresilient Hmm.. Maybe a walker with a seat would better win? I also have a seated walker and that is SO useful and easily transportable

@@taysresilient I used to be wheelchair bound but I've learned to walk again. I still struggle some days. my symptoms are non-epileptic seizures, tremors, loss of consciousness episodes, and temporary paralysis. It's a lot haha. It doesn't come on me at once but after a seizure I can't move an inch of my body for sometimes hours and the migraines and wobbly gait happen for days after a seizure.
What are your symptoms and what equipment do you have currently to help you?

Went to a wheelchair too. Actually a transport chair because I have shaky hands so tricky to get wheels on & off, but can sit and use legs to move it. Anyway, I love it. Light, folds in half so easy to get in and out of car & a beautiful blue and pink plaid. Doesn't have a name yet. I named my Walker on wheels Turbo after an American Gladiator - dumb, but fun competition show in the states in the 90s. Long story to say good idea. The most annoying thing to me is when people talk to the person pushing the chair instead of me.

I'm also really happy your friends and family are so understanding and willing to help you. That is a blessing on it's own!
I completely relate with you, I experience temporary paralysis and weakness in legs. I don't need the wheelchair every day but I also can't put it up. I mostly walk with a cane and it's AMAZING how many dirty looks I get. When I use the motorized cart at stores I actually have people ask me for my cart because "I don't need it". It sucks we're dealing with this while young because a lot of people think we're just fooling around and playing with equipment.
I hope you are feeling better today, I hope you are receiving treatments, and I hope you're happy :)
I'm from USA so this is worldwide too.

Thank you for your comment Gina. Disability doesn't discriminate based on age, even if people do! Just ignore those people and do what you need to do :)

I bought a wheelchair. I’m currently paralysed. But it is so much better for longer trips where I can’t walk. I’ve been thinking about getting an electric one for in the shops cause my arms can go numb

What brand is that? It looks like one of the aspire ones. I have the aspire self propelled but in the blue colour and the next one up is very much like this one

It should show in the video but Adapt I think is the brand! It might have different names in different countries. It came in different colours and I picked orange :) I know lots of people who went for electric. I wasn't strong enough to propel myself far.

HI. Thank you for sharing your story. I am working with a group of occupational therapy students who are doing research on living with functional movement disorder as part of our class. Could we share the link to our research study on your page? Thank you very much for the consideration.

My brain throws wrong words out all the time. I've had to rent one before. I have considered a scooter before.

Why do you need a wheelchair? Do you wear diapers too?

    • @Lentilboots
      @Lentilboots  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

KarmaMan82 If you see my other videos, you can learn about my Functional Neurological Disorder. Basically I have weak legs and sometimes paralysis so I can't walk. I don't use diapers.
