Maggie's Foster Placement Has Come To An End.. Please Share Her!

June 2023 ~ Maggie is back in rescue kennels after 6 wonderful months in foster care 💔
Before she got in the car with us she got to open lots of lovely presents which her previous caregiver sent from her Amazon Wishlist, she is very grateful for her new toys and treats which she has taken with her.

Many of you will have been following the story of beautiful 1 year Collie x Whippet Maggie who spent 4 months in rescue kennels before finding a foster home in the perfect environment to help her learn and feel safe.
Maggie has been in foster care since January and her life has transformed for the better whilst being there, we couldn't be more proud of her achievements and how settled and happy she is at home.

Maggie's foster carer describes her as 'the perfect dog' at home with a beautiful temperament and she is being the most wonderful house guest. She is still working to feel more comfortable walking in public spaces with lots of distractions and during the summer months her foster carer's lifestyle unfortunately changes, meaning she would need to go with him to places that would overwhelm her and potentially set her gradual confidence building back. For this reason they have made the decision that they will not be able to continue being her carer.

Here is a brief overview of her main considerations:
🐕 Maggie is looking for a Collie savvy caregiver who understands their quirks such as tendency to herd moving vehicles. A person or couple who understand the management of dogs who display as 'reactive'/ sensitive whilst encountering unexpected overwhelming things on walks in public spaces would be a huge help for her too.
❤️ Maggie is looking for someone with lots of love and time to give, she is incredibly affectionate and loves to spend her time with her humans. Whilst in a safe environment at home you couldn't wish for a more lovely experience with a dog and with understanding, patience and time she will learn to feel more comfortable walking in public too.
👶 Maggie is looking for a child free environment, with no visiting children
🐶 Maggie is working on feeling comfortable around other animals whilst on her lead, her counter conditioning exercises will help with this in time. She is said to have lived with dogs before and we can facilitate intros with compatible dogs and very experienced caregivers, however a pet free home would also suit her well. Maggie is experiencing big feelings and frustration when seeing other dogs on a walk and this can display as an explosive outburst of barking when put in situations which overwhelm her. The aim is to make sure we set her up for success by taking her to places she can enjoy, building positive experiences as well as confidence over time.
🌳 Maggie loves having a large space in which to play, explore and exercise at her foster home with no pressure to walk in places she finds overwhelming whilst she is learning to manage her emotions. Applicants with a smaller outside space will need a vehicle to drive her to enclosed fields or quieter walking areas, working at her pace with walking in pubic spaces (costs for enclosed field hire covered by the charity during foster)
⏰️ Maggie has worked up to being left for up to 30 minutes so far, the person or couple who take her on will need to be sure they can work around not leaving her. They will also need to be prepared to move at pace with extending the time she is left and not have any expectations in terms of when she will be able to stay by herself for longer periods.
🎓 Maggie loves to learn and already has a huge amount of skills and 'manners' at home. She would love to live with someone who is keen to work and play with her every day, in particular follow guidance to counter condition and help her process big feelings when she is in environments that are more overwhelming than home. Seeing her reach milestones is by far the most rewarding experience imaginable, you must be prepared that counter conditioning is a repetitive activity and that patience as well as consistency are required from the caregiver to see results.
You really couldn't find a more loyal, loving companion if you can match her by offering the same level of love and loyalty you'll receive 💕
