Any tip on how to stop someone bridging and rolling you over whilst doing this? As soon as I get both hands of the mat the opponent tends to take the opportunity to off balance me
I actually find it easier it finish from the bottom so not a huge issue. You could lean your weight to one side and post your head on the mat to lower the risk though.
Hit this tonight! Thanks man! My head position was wrong at first but my coach worked me through that super easy. Everything else was on point because of this short.
Idk why people dislike this one. It opens up a wide variety of transitions and submissions. But I mean it's also just a front facing version of the rear naked choke. Always enjoy the endless amounts of techniques/sequences you put out there.
Thanks man! It's honestly because they're either not good at them or their training partners who try them aren't good at them. I ignored them for a long time and got good at them. Feels like I need to convince people it's actually a great choke if you're good at them and people don't believe me 😅
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu yeah I think people worry too much about being rolled or someone exploding out of the position. But mostly I think it's trying to stay too center off the submission attempts. Every one of those mount attack entries needs some offset of weight to keep a pin or transition if they do bump and roll. I think it comes from alot of black belts teaching that aren't themselves specialized in mount control. Or conversely that learned with vale tudo in mind. So without strikes they view it as a less valuable position in a sub only context. Then they pass that along to the students. Anyways I'll look forward to that video.
@@davidcastillo4487 yepp exactly. The same fundamentals and control to all positions. If you don't understand how to positon your weight or control with the legs than you will definitely get rolled to the bottom. But even then you can finish from the bottom and I think it's even eaiser to finish form guard. What people are lacking the most is understanding of choke bites. They make or break any choke and especially the Nogi Ezekiel. I see blackbelts online all the time demonstrating moves with big gaps in theory chokes. Terrible choke bites. If people just took a good bite with the Ezekiel they'd realize how powerful it is.
Im a whitebelt who mostly practice gi and this is still one of my most consistent subs. Noone rly knows how to defend it at the lower belts. Rly great one and honestly works better for me then the gi ezekiel
Also, anyone who doubts this sub check Bmac’s work on this choke. He has lots of details about finishing it and using it ina dilemma between the punch choke and the arm triangle.
I really appreciate the simple video, Ezekiel in gi and no gi is my favorite submission but sometimes I struggle finishing the no gi, and I think it's because I'm not lifting the head and getting that bicep bite leaving the one artery open. Gonna do more attempts keeping this in mind. Thank you for the content and oss
I always have trouble finishing it tho I can easily find the choke I just I don’t know if I extend my arms or I press the fist into their neck I’m confused lmao.
Pressure your forearm down. I use my fist because my fingers aw fragile from years of BJJ. But you don't press your fist into the carotid for a nogi Ezekiel. That would be a punch choke. It works. Just a different choke.
@@EvilEvo_3 have your head down on one side ready to post. Position your weight on that same side so you're too heavy to get rolled to the other side. Even if you do get rolled you can finish from guard 🙂

So I roll with a guy in my class named Ezekiel. He hit me with this Monday night and esophagus is ruined. I’ve only rolled about 5 times so I will now fight ferociously to prevent that from happening again.
Also known as a punch choke. My Coach showed me this spend month trying to get it and now is my go to. I'm a white belt and almost pull it on a brown belt. He defended and the chocked me 3 times in a roll but you get the point 😀
I'm convinced that the ezekiel choke was made up by an MMA guy who wanted to punch someone, but since it is against the rules, decided to do it very slowly
awesome. i have to play with it. when someone traps their arm under my head from mount, its usually an easy sweep... so my willingness to go for this has to do with whether i can finish the choke from the bottom or stop the sweep (post the leg maybe?)
I always do that with the flat hand. Will try the closed hand instead. It's kind of just a formality, bcs they have to release their hands at some point to get me out of mount.
Are you pressing down on the wind pipe with this one? My understanding is the arteries are at the sides of the neck and it looks like you're fist is on top of the oesophagus
I was doing this in no gi in 2012 as white belt not knowing what an Ezekiel choke was even though I was training in the gi as well. A friend asked me if it was an Ezekiel choke and I said I don't know what that is 😂
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu not "never", but very low percentage. More useful as an attack to create the opportunity for a better attack, most likely will cause you to lose mount if you sell out on it. Probably better in the long run to tell white belts that it doesn't exist
@@pennc81 I think it's higher percentage than people give it credit for. Most people just don't do them right. I've been hitting these regularly after just recently trying them out. I too thought they weren't a great submission but I was wrong.

Not gonna lie this is top 3 BJJ channels on TH-cam but this gotta be the lowest percentage submission out there, even worse is it is incredibly easy to completely reverse the position from bottom mount.
I teach all the tools. They're only as successful as the user is able to implement them. I've only recently starting using them and and have been hitting them consistently on good people 🤷. I actually find it easier to finish from the bottom after being reversed. I think they get a bad rep because low skilled people try to rely on them.
@@kevinjohnson6549 I'm going to hit this choke on good guys in my next rolling commentarys because of the doubters in the comments on tiktok and Instagram too lol. It's really a great choke and doesn't deserve the low percentage label. I didn't think it was great either until I started exploring it. A good bite is essential as well being sneaky about it. If it fails it's also a great way to get them to open them arms up to isolate them.

"almost" is horseshoes and hand grenades brother
This is my bread and butter
Jordan I did this and he bridged hard and I tore my rotator cuff
Is a fist preferred to the knife hand? I found a knife hand helps me get under their chin if they're defending
Both are good. My fingers are fucked so I go in with the fist to protect them. I find it equally effective.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu thank you!
In the gi, I never get this, genuine struggle. Any tips JP?
Would u say fist on throat or Forearm is better (typically for the 2nd one I shoot my hand all the way through to the armpit)
Personally, I just use it as a decoy to get the arm up. Follow that elbow up with your leg into S mount, bingo 🤙
Nice I use that too. You should explore the Nogi Ezekiel more as a finishing option too. It actually works great.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu 100%, it needs to be a real threat in order to even be an effective decoy
I find it to be tightest if you slide the choking hand under the wrist with tension as opposed to over the head controlling wrist

Hello. I like it but is not easy to lose the mount with this movement? Sorry for my english i am spanish. Huges
If you are the person on bottom, can you do this move to the person on top of you? Is that a legal move from either position?
Dude I've been open hand doing this for months, thank you so much
would this still be effective if your opponent bridges and reverses the position?
Yes you can still do this from the bottom, very similar set up just bit harder to pull off, just need that tight bite on neck and use fist again
I am having a hard time finishing this choke. Can't i put pressure on the opponent's wind pipe instead of the artery?

Not the windpipe. The carotid. It's your forearm that pushes down. Your hand just goes deep to position your forearm on the carotid.
I get roll over 100% of the time when I go for this lol
No gi ezekiel turns into no gezekiel turns into no g'zekiel
