She is someone who has navigated through a life unabatedly through honesty and of course she is a true artist. Today we are gonna take her back to the memory lane and to a place where she came from. "I am so happy you took me on this memory lane. You suddenly took me back to Kolkata in the 70s-80s and it was really a magical place to be growing up. Watched this frank, interesting interview with Kiran Rao and was reminded of my own life 30 years ago!
I am from Calcutta and went to the same school ,Loreto House Park Street and finished my schooling in 1976.
She is absolutely right when she says it is the land of education, art , culture, theatre, music and films and back in those days money was of little consequence .
The focus was on one's education, culture ethics , good mnners and your own skills and how you conducted yourself.
Like her , I too got married in 1982 to a struggling actor after a 3 year romance and settled in Bombay.
I don't know how she adjusted to all the hypocrites, the insincere blabber and the self absorbed narcissists in the film line!
My husband and I were together for 10 years before we parted ways after the serial Ramayan was completed in 1989 and I went my own way and successfully carved my life as a Copywriter & a Social Journalist and a hands on Animal Welfare Person
Hats off to Kiran for being able to survive in the film line.
I simply could not after being born and raised in a totally different environment snd from an old world culture !

Basically Kolkata student life and Mumbai life to build carrier are two different worlds with different values.Depends on individuals as per their choice.its a way to see life from a different angle.Me too from a middle class Bengali family of Varanasi,was having a different life perception before coming to Delhi about 25 years back.Now people say you are straight forward and rough .This is because I stay in Delhi and need such arms to mingle with Delhi life style.
Interesting conversation. Kiran speaks well. The only grouse i have nowadays is a) why do people have to insert the word 'like' every time? Neither of them can say even 2 sentences to say something without 'like', 'you know'...😮😅
For some it's "okay"..... the urge never dies down to stand out, to be singled out in a positive sense. Wearing neon chappal is odd but it is a conscious choice to claim that " I am not like the rest" Self proclaimed secure people too are so scared of Mediocrity!!!! Mediocre people from all possible angles matters way more than we ever admit.
It actually makes interviews very genuine as many normal people talk like this. When you are too perfect sometimes you start to feel it’s scripted and rehearsed or teleprompted. Not that I like or trust her but just my opinion

I loved shopping in New Market, fudge from Nahums, Flurys pastries, Kaventer:s Milk shakes, and all the restaurants on Park Street , live bands, Blue Fox, Trincas, Oxford Library, the movie halls and all the cultural activities !

It is not our culture to put just myself as the center of the universe. And sanatana dharma culture definitely talks about any one to respect their own ambitions and also respect others. We were taught to be together, make others happy and be happier. Yes, being kind is very important as Kiranji has said. When we observe something that evolves and get extracted from all these is that one should have vairagya and I mean real vairagya which will not let us to think any time that we are the center of this universe. There is only consciousness that is considered to be center of this universe that dwells in everything and everyone. Our mind is also driven by it. So, unless we take up vairagya even as a householder we cannot actually become center of this universe. But once we take up vairagya Bhava, we no longer crave for our own ambitions and desires.
