  • My third favourite piano concerto and one of Chopin’s best compositions ever written. Occuring in 1938, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sir John Barbirolli as the conductor, Hofmann unleashes and unbelieavably awe inspiring performance. In 33 minutes, 10 minutes faster than most recordings, he brings out all the colour that chopin intended. Amazing voicing especially in the second movement, effortless virtuostic pasages, and a sublime light touch. Moreover, the pedaling is perfect in my opinion; many pianists today use too much.
my second favourite is Zimmerman, then Bruce Liu.

Thank you for everyone supporting me by subscribing, commenting, or liking. This is my first score video of a piano concerto and I can say it is a great success! Will do the 2nd concerto next by Hofmann and later Rach 2 by Weissenberg.

Preternaturally translucent! Hofmann's fingers weave their magic in this great work.

Thanks so much for putting this together, it must have been a lot of work. Fantastic and inimitable recording!

My deepest pleasure! Thank you for this motivation and comment. Doing score videos is my passion because I love classical and they’re actually not that difficult because I don’t use any programs, just iMovie which might be surprising. I just screen record screenshots of sheet music with the video playing in the background, hence the small arrow icon in the corner. If it lags or I make a mistake, I will have to stop recording. For this one, there were around 20 separate recordings that I had to stitch together with unnoticeable transitions, using imovie. I don’t know how to use any of the ultra complicated programs that other score channels use; I tried but failed 😅, so I’m glad I found this easier method. Compared to my first score video these are leagues better. Still very time consuming though.

Love the low B flat. Lots of character!

@@Janeahmon Yes, but I mean specifically how you added it into the score

😂Oh yes I love to do that because it reminds me when he does them. I do it in basically all my videos when a pianist alters the score. Like its more fun when you hear the exact notes being played; if someone plays a low b flat it wouldnt be as nice seeing the score indicate a b flat an octave higher. I love the transition too!

@@Janeahmon I agree, I think it's great to annotate the score to indicate exactly what the pianist plays, and how they change from what's written in the score. HorowitzScores does it on some of his videos
