- There are hundreds of horror stories about scooter accidents and "go fund me" pages set up for reckless daredevils but sometimes you can get in trouble when you think you are fully covered.
In this episode we discuss some of the limits of Travel Insurance and also the Indonesian BPJS heath service that covers citizens and long term residents from around $5/month (USD)
Insurance is like a hospital gown you only think you are fully covered
I do travel insurance but only do it because I may need it and I just hold my breath and pray that they will cover me. I have no faith in any of them really. If you have any alcohol it can void.
Read the terms and conditions of your travel policy so you know whats covered and what the exclusions are....Simple.
Up to what age BPJS will cover .
I believe any age
TH-cam Bali Days - Disaster in Bali video! Yes we were covered for the whole lot. Surgery , follow up visits & pharmacy medications!😊
Not medical related but my first surfing trip to Bali was 1980, wow I wonder where the times gone until I look in the mirror 😂
I had a big cassette deck that I bought in Singapore stolen, went to the Bali cops for a report so I could claim it on insurance. They said, big problem, much paperwork, if you say you lost it, no problem at all. Haha gotta love their work.
Love your videos muzza, if I get back over there I’ll catch up for a beer👍
Mate how is the school
It's good they are back after the break and loving their new facilities
Thank you so much good to know that’s important Murray.
That’s why it’s called travel insurance it stops as soon as you get back to your home country.
If you insure your car and it gets damaged and needs on-going repairs then the original policy protects you. I can tell you 1 cover will help you until the injury is healed
This is from 1 Cover terms, as with all travel insurance you have a start date and a finished date....

Just watching your blog about the bloke who damaged his neck. 11 months ago broke my leg . Also 2 appointments with a authopedic surgeon in perth also 4000 loss of wages and about 6 weeks physiotherapy. Was of work for 4 months . I was only out of pocket 200,$ you can use this for u
You're travel insurance blog if you like
@@MurrayWilkinson1 I always use 1Cover but never needed to test the water on claiming. I always add an extra day cover on the end in case my flight is delayed too.
Insurances in general are a joke, but a necessary gamble we should all take, people should remember though a lot of credit cards have pretty good automatic insurance coverage, I have a Citi Bank card and as long as I spend $500aud on that particular travel event it’s got pretty damn good coverage, however I’m only holidaying still at this stage, I willlook further into it when I look at retiring , hopefully sooner than later 😆
All travel insurance is just that . The minute you return to your home country your Medicare and local health insurance kick in.
Injuries that occur on your travels are what you’re insuring !
Are you in Bali ?
Sure am
Thank God I've never needed it
Good timing with this video, Muzza... I'm in the process of getting on the BPJS in Lombok.
I'm just wondering if you are still going to have a basic Aus travel insurance? Maybe for an emergency flight back to Aus? Thanks D.
Depends, the medicare system will cover emergencies
So Muzza, are you saying his Australian Health Insurance wouldn't cover him for his medical expenses when he got back to Aus because the injury/incident happened overseas?
No only covered part of the expenses
Thanks Murray really.
Human resource
Also ,do you (and other Aussies who are now living in Bali) need to take out travel insurance or do you take out health insurance when you visit Aus?
No I am still covered by Medicare as an Australian Citizen
@@MurrayWilkinson1 In America, one cannot go on Medicare until one turns 65 years of age. Now, you CAN be covered by Medicaid until the age of 65 if you income-qualify (make less than about $23,000 USD / year) but you must wait until you are 65 YOA to apply for Medicare.
Hello Muzza & thank you for a very important topic! Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Social is the organization administering the Indonesian National Health Insurance. Luckily when i traveled in Indonesia, i never had major health and safety disasters, only dengue, malaria & typhoid, treatable by qualified doctors in Bali, Java & Timor. My question is about the Australian with travel insurance not being treated in his home country. Doesn't Australia have a universal health insurance system? Can they refuse to treat anyone? Would love more details, age, injury, etc. Luckily this injured party had medical evacuation insurance. 💙
The waiting lists for specialist care in Australia is often many months, I waited 2.years for hernia surgery and they botched it
