Thanks for the video Mike. I am a little late to this party , wish I would have seen your video first. I have an 8×8 n scale layout with multiple feeder cables. I was able to figure it out and it works great. I would highly recommend this Kato product along with checking out your video first.
Great, thanks for responding Mike. Building an HO scale set to compliment my N scale (HO runs underneath the n scale in opposite direction) can't wait to get everything going! Going to have 4 built in speakers in with surround sound. Have to send you a video when done. Would like to show you my N scale set sometime. Thanks again.
I'm thinking about getting one, doesn't the soundbox want fixed dc? It appears youre hooking it to the ac terminals used for smap switches? Great video
Can the box be hooked up to the 'AUX INPUT' terminals of a more powerful home stereo receiver and played through big speakers that actually have some bass response? To me, this would be the selling point, to hear a deeper, louder (if desired!) more realistic sound, at least for short periods of time!
Mike,,I have a question. Let's say I wanted to use the sound box as a stand alone unit,,like for instance not connected to the momentum and throttle from the power pack. Will the unit still play the idle sounds, horn, brake, etc. by pushing the appropriate buttons? I'm thinking the momentum thing might be dicey for rapid switching moves unless there is an adjustment to fine tune it for a quicker response. I think I read a comment somewhere where a guy hooked up a toggle switch so he could do both buy switching it back and forth . Get back to me if you can because I am about ready to take the plunge and buy one but need to know about this before I do! Thanks
Great video.. Getting the soundbox for Christmas next year. Can you tell me what Deisel card that is? Generation 1? 3?.I love the sound on that . Thanks!
Do you have to use Kato track for this to work, or are there other sound boxes you can purchase? I have DC EZ track and would like to incorporate sound.
Unfortunately, That's what my layout consists of. I'm working with my son who is 7. Have to make it easy. But I can hook that set up as you showed to EZ track?
BE WARNED! I bought this and installed it today.but my older DC only locos will not respond, only the DCC ready locos will respond to the commands for forward and reverse. Any ideas on why or am I doing something wrong?!
Fred Cordini Not that I am aware of. I have wondered if one could use a rotary switch with a series of function decoders around it to select a particular loco to run with a particular setting on the rotary switch but have yet to try this. Thanks , Mike
Mike, do you know how much amperes the Kato Soundbox could put out? (In other words, how many DC locomotives a big lashup, could I run?) I gather the Kato standard powerpack is something like 1 amp at 12 volts, therefore that would likely be about the amount of amps the Soundbox is likely to be able to support at full speed?
+John Sing Thanks John , Michael at Kato assured me it would work with ANY DC power pack so my guess would be up to about 3A or so. I know that the power supply to the soundbox can only be 12-18 V 3 amps. Thanks , Mike

Great video, Mike! I plan on picking up a Kato sound box very soon. Now I will feel very confident in hooking to my Non-Kato transformer.
Robert Clark Thanks Robert, It is pretty easy.
Mike
Thanks for the wonderful expansions, it's helped me a lot!
Thanks Allison , Mike

Thanks so much Ed !!!!
Mike, thanls for this great tutorial. I didn't even know this thing existed. I want one! Thanks again.
Thanks John , The cure for that is to buy one !! LOL

+Jay Exner I would love to see it.
Mike
Very nicely done. Thank you. Can I connect Digitrax Zephyr Express DCS-52 to Soundbox?
No , it is a DC product
thank you great as always
Thanks William !!
Nice explanation of wiring.
Thanks Dan , Mike
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!

Variable DC

I have no idea .
Thanks , Mike
yes, I have mine setup that way
Can the sound box also be powered from the power supply to the input on the back of the sound box instead of using the snap connectors on the side?
Yes.
Great video. Do you know if you can reduce or eliminate the momentum?
not that I am aware of.
Mike
The momentum can be adjusted for very little or a lot, but it won’t completely cut it out.
Nice video, very informative! Looking forward to your next video.
Randy
Randy Piasecki Thanks Randy , Mike
Mike thanks for the great how too.
Peter CPRail8748 Thanks so much Peter.Mike

@@N-Scale Thanks!

+Jay Exner It is first gen.
Thanks , Mike
I have Bachmann ez HO tracks. So do I connect my track to fixed DC?
No Variable
Thank You.
Is Bachmann EZ track compatible with the Kato Sound Box?
Yes. Track has NOTHING to do with the power to the track
wery nice video, thanks
You are welcome
What's variable DC,,is that the same as track DC on my MRC 1300?
Yep
@@N-Scale Thanks!

The Soundbox will work with any DC. I would steer away from Bachmann EZ Track though.
Thanks , Mike

For sure, Yes
Thanks , Mike
hi Mike... thanks for sharing this info... i think it will help lots of people..vinny
bnsf6951 Thanks Vinny , I hope so as I get asked this question very often. Thanks , Mike
Will this work with Z scale Marklin?
Yes
BE WARNED! I bought this and installed it today.but my older DC only locos will not respond, only the DCC ready locos will respond to the commands for forward and reverse. Any ideas on why or am I doing something wrong?!
Hi Mike, Can the sound box be used with a DCC controller, and if so, is the install the same? Thanks, Fred
Fred Cordini Not that I am aware of. I have wondered if one could use a rotary switch with a series of function decoders around it to select a particular loco to run with a particular setting on the rotary switch but have yet to try this. Thanks , Mike
Yikes! Sounds too complicated for me. Thanks Mike, Fred.

Hi Mike, I like your video, I would like to know, the joiner Kato item number from the Kato box sound to the rail tracks
You can use these:

Thank you
You are welcome, Mike
I have an mrc power pack i'm selling, how do it test it? to make sure it's working
Volt meter across the DC terminals and turn on and see if you can adjust the output power.
Mike
Are the MRC Tech packs junky?
Not at all. Likely dirty wheels or track.
Mike
Mike, did you try it with momentum on?
Craig Lord There is no need to use the momentum on the pack as the soundbox does this for you based on the sync setting. Thanks , Mike
What is the price of the sound box
Thanks David.

Seems them throttling is quite a bit out of sync!
Christian Javier You would need to play with that and make adjustments on the sound box as needed but can be better matched. Thanks , Mike
First!
