The little black dress. It's the one thing that is suitable for all things formal. It's simple. It works. It looks nice. Well, gentlemen, I present to you... the little black box. It's suitable for all things. It does it all. It's simple. And it looks nice. It's TEAC's UD-701N Music Player. The flagship player from TEAC, it's a network player, a USB DAC, an analog preamp, and headphone amplifier, plays everything, streams everything, and that's just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Let's just say that I'm not going to have any shortage of things to say about this device.

One quick note for our viewers: the UD-701N display flicker seen in this video is *not* visible to the naked eye. Just a hiccup with our camera set-up! 🙂

Yeah, it's what filmmakers deal with all the time when filming TV monitors and digital readouts. It's a conflict with the fps.

Thank you Moon Audio. I have been watching your sight and waiting for this video. I have the AK4497 based TEAC NT-505 with and external clock. Took me about a year to tweak the sound, but man am I happy. Now they come out with a FPGA-based unit, and I am more than curious. That price though...

I always like the "set and forget" solutions, and Teac often makes good all-in-ones. Having said that, the next question arises: is it possible to find separates that cost about the same but sound the same or better? Separates allow to exchange and upgrade of a single component in their "stack." So, often the answer is that it's best to audition and compare the perspective "keeper" components in a user's home. But purchasing from different sources and then matching all these other components together could be a significant hassle. So this Teac is certainly tempting... Very much so. But then there is a HI-FI Rose - eye candy and the UI king, for sure. But does the best HI-FI Rose box "sounds better" as well? Questions, questions... Has anyone compared the two? Do share your impressions, please!

    Hello,
I own UD-701N. Could you please tell me the best/right DAC settings? Should it be Multibit or 1bit DSD and which modulator frequency to use? What's the difference between the two filters? Should I use either?
The idea is to get the sound close to the original and hear the most details out of music. There is very little infomation on the system on the Internet and TEAC does not answer.

Curious to hear your impressions of sound quality. Particularly curious about comparison with Teac NT-505.

I am thinking of buying this unit, are you happy with Bluetooth performance? Why did Teac use 4.2 BT version, does not make any sense….

      @@indrakumarc73 Hi,
Have not tried it. Use TEAC as a streamer. But my experience with UD-505, which uses the same codecs, suggests that UD-701 should provide good sound via Bluetooth.

@@GB-qw7lg он по звуку похож на gustard r26.
Teac 505 гораздо детальнее чем 701.

Excellent review. I still use the Teac NT-503 with AKM chips and prefer what you accurately label the "laidback and warm" tone of that one, particularly as it's paired with an already analytical CD transport the Audiolab 9000CDT.

Thank you for this review again. Can you recommend using the Teac UD-701N with the Dutch & Dutch 8C speakers, given their Future-Fi design with built-in DAC, DSP, and power amps? What streaming solution for such speakers would you suggest?

Bluetooth 4.2 ? That is quite an old version, now we have 5.2….BT downgrade you think?

    • @moon-audio

Are you really going to use Bluetooth with a $4000 DAC? Sort of defeats the purpose. Bluetooth is meant to be a convivence connection. The sound difference between the 4 and 5 is small. Range is definitely better. But I doubt I will ever use Bluetooth on this device. Since this is meant for a home system, why not connect the portable source via USB or Toslink if available for the best sounding option? This would be much better sounding than any version of Bluetooth.

@@moon-audio i will rarely use Bluetooth on this expensive DAC, but was curious why did they go for older version when the latest is available….since it is a $4000 DAC, we would expect the latest tech. But that was just a question. Thanks

I imagine the difference is negligible if you're streaming hi-res.

bluetooth in this dac would only be useful if it didn't have a remote control, but as it already has one so... maybe unless if you want to connect to smartphone or a tablet to use an app to control (if it`s possible idk)

I dont understand. "Some might call it analytical but the speaker or headphone pairing might make or break the deal"... And then "luckily the 701 pairs well with almost everything". Well, which one of the two is it??

    • @moon-audio
      @moon-audio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello Thomas, the UD-701N "pairs well with *almost* everything" unless you have a really bright speaker or headphone to pair it with - then it might be a bit bright for most ears. If you have any questions about your particular pairing, feel free to give us a call and we'll be more than happy to help however we can: www.moon-audio.com/contact-us 🙂

I always consider not just the product, but what I'm connecting it to. You have to take the whole signal chain into effect when considering the sound signature and how gear affects each other.
