That thing was BS. Somebody took those things threw them in a much newer MRE and tried to reseal it. Half that stuff has been around for less then 20 years.
@@xcalibertrekker6693 They marked it as 1990 because they don't quite have a understanding on how to read American date stamps- to be fair they are misleading- I can tell by the packaging that it is a early 2000's when they first made the switch to tan. The date codes are between '03 and '06, which would make sense- the longer lasting items would be cycled through more than things like civilian cheese crackers. been a subscriber to Ace and Micah for a long long time now. glad to see you hopping on that wagon doing something TOTALLY different and interesting. Sending my love to your beautiful family all the way from Singapore! ✨ God bless
That is a 2001 (1290 is 290th day of 2001). This menu ran around that time period for a couple years. The bread was always one piece, but there is a later edition labeled as twin pack. Sorry to see those M&m's, I've had countless mre and have never seen that. Great vid, as always.
My service predated MREs too, USAF 1976-1980 and USN 1980-1986. A couple times I had the chance to eat the old canned C-rats. Later in civilian life, I began ordering MREs, but mostly just the main entrees. Prices are so skyhigh now, my limited retirement income just won't allow it. But I do enjoy the vicarious pleasure of watching these YT MRE channels. 😎
Just found your channel!! Thank you for your service and I know your are proud of the wonderful children and grandchildren you have. Great video and I look forward to more from you ... 😉👍
Holy shit. I remember my friends in college selling me their old MRE's from the 90's/00's for a handful of dollars per or a pack of cigs, this was in 07-08. It really makes me realize my age. I couldn't have made it through a semester without them, since I couldn't afford the cafeteria. Still, if they are decently well kept, most MREs have a crazy shelf life. Thanks for sharing!
Had several MREs that saw combat. One was from Gulf War 1. Buddy secured the burning oil fields and carried them in his pack. The other was from my friend's son. He was EOD in Afghanistan. He was trying to clear an field of IEDs when one blew up and destroyed his mine clearing vehicle. 2 weeks later, he was out on patrol when their patrol got ambushed and a round entered his chest. That earned him a trip to Germany. His dad gave me some MRE components that his son carried in the field.
I just want to say thank you for your service. No matter if you seen com at or not you were willing to fight. And I respect that. Once again thank you for your service me ancient

I have eaten MREs before when Hirricaine IKE hit Texas we were without power for a long time all our food spolied and groceries stores were closed aswell. So they opened pods diatributing these MREs. However, mine did not come with accessories, but it did come with its own, cooking mechanism. I had to bend it backwards and something poped and it was boiling inside the pouch. These are the ones I came up eating then they changed them up and that "government cheese" spread was not near as good. The Tabasco sauce was a welcome addition and that Tabasco sauce is definitely TURNED, LOL.
Gawd I loved that jalapeno cheese spread. They changed the bread up a lot later and it got better and made the heaviest Peanut butter sammich you ever had in your life. One piece of this MRE "Bread" equivalent I think to like four or five pieces of sliced bread. You would GET FULL on this stuff beside the damn obligatory "John Wayne" crackers and "TP" that was essentially useless after eating these "half dried caulk butt" creator MREs(I've tried to think of a word for what the "finished product" is after consuming these about the best analogy 😂). Might as well wipe with a sand blaster and get somewhere.

Every bit of energy out of it. Taste doesnt really matter anymore. Best sht ever. I ate hundreds and hundreds of them.. After a few weeks / months in the bush /field, you get back to the rear with the gear and the beer and real food tastes like the greatest object ever to exist on Earth.. lol... after getting back to base ( stateside) , 4-5 of us Grunts would clean up, load into a cab, and hit "old country buffet" like sprung monkeys . Then, straight to the Bars. CHEERS ! CURRAHEE DMZ
You, sir, are obviously the real deal. Great to know you are watching the videos. I appreciate that and the input. In Beirut we were so starved of beer that we drank our beer room temperature from the can. As I recall, it was Stella Artois out of Belgium, but I could be wrong. I wasn't much of a beer drinker, but I did buy one occasionally. Then some generator guys hooked up an old refrigeration unit left by the Beirut Army and you could buy a cold beer as long as they lasted for twice the price. My recollection is that the warm beer (room temp was always at least 80 degrees) was 50 cents, the cold was $1.00. tfw!
I'm surprised that the M&M's were still good. Being inside that large inner package with all that extra air around them, I'd have thought that they might have gone rancid. Great video, God bless.
Michael, I appreciate the sentiment, but Ace actually taught me about video. The general principles of business and life came from his mom (my wife) and I, but he did the video thing all on his own. Micah is doing the same. tfw
Love these videos! My buddy who is in the Guards brought an MRE camping and we all tried it. It tasted great! I will add that it was not "ancient" though. (See what I did there?)
Aside from the M&Ms looked like it held up pretty good. Awesome review. If your looking for some others to review older brown bags or Foreign MREs send me a email I can send some your way.
When I was in AirForce Bootcamp in 2002, I got an MRE with a heating element. All it needed was water to activate and of course, we all had canteens filled with water. Too be honest, I enjoyed most of the MREs and the currency effect that some of the items had.
Jeff, I remember the 'currency effect' you mention. I was a trader in my days in the Corps. Hopefully I can tell a few of those stories in future videos. tfw

My recollection is that the warm beer (room temp was always at least 80 degrees) was 50 cents, the cold was $1.00.
tfw!
WE NEED MORE VIDEOS THESE ARW SO INTERESTING
The green bag is for warming up the food, you put the food packet in, fill water to a line, fold top over and let sit for a minute or two
Channel growth is insane, good work!!
Appreciate it! tfw
The resemblance is crazy
Thank you for your service
I'm surprised that the M&M's were still good. Being inside that large inner package with all that extra air around them, I'd have thought that they might have gone rancid. Great video, God bless.
I was surprised myself, especially when you consider there was milk used in the making of them. TFW!
Lordy! I won’t eat a graham cracker a week after expiration. This hero dives in 20 years past the date of beef.
George, come on, man! Be adventurous. :-). TFW
Just found you. Great review!!
Please keep doing these!!
Count on it, Travis. tfw
The first number is the year . So 20 years old. From Glenn CATT in Massachusetts.
We all love ace.. but now we have the man who taught ace
(See what I did there?)
ba-da-boom, ba-da-bing! tfw, Jimmy.
Love the vids! Have you ever tried MRE’s from other countries? Interested to see how they vary from the US.
YOUR GRANDAUGHTER IS ADORABLE

Love Your Style Man
I'm happy to hear someone does. I didn't know I had a style, but I'll take it as a compliment. Seriously, Smokey, thanks!
some of those look good remember the one from the 1980 was not very good.U.S Army National guard?
This is the official training courses taken before an Asa & Micah food challenge.
I was able to make a collection of five different tobasco bottles over time. I still carried my own bottle of Louisiana hot sauce for taste
Funny how a lot of viewers know more of this MRE then the reviewer himself, by watching hundreds of these video's from Steve, Kiwi and Gundog
miss Kiwi and his Boss
Aside from the M&Ms looked like it held up pretty good. Awesome review. If your looking for some others to review older brown bags or Foreign MREs send me a email I can send some your way.
Dub C, I think my email is in the 'about' section of my channel. tfw!
@@MeAncient it was not when I checked. Mine is in my about section on my channel.
If I had my way, I'd have an MRE everyday. You lucky ole Marine!
New favourite channel I believe so
Tks, Quinn. And tfw!
I love these reviews! Date of production is 2001. I think…
You are a legend of a man.
In my own mind, I most certainly am, Chris.....:-) tfw
By God that picture of you in uniform is the spitting imagine of Ace and Micah
I think so, too, Grimace. tfw!

Welcome aboard! More to come!
Your suppose to heat it up in the heating bag before eating it
It can be eaten cold too.. He did mention its so hot there
That's just one piece of bread. They were never my favorite. Always had a bit of a bitter aftertaste. I enjoy your videos!
Glad you like them! Do you have any idea when those MREs were around?
I never saw that particular menu when I was in. I served from 2004-2010. We had some good ones though. My favorite was the spaghetti.
I like your personality. Very cute. Your video are very informative on on all information on MRE. Keep up the good work
More to come, Kelly....tfw!
Great video. It makes me laugh that Ace and Micah are afraid to eat old food but will happily eat frogs, sharks, suckers and jellyfish etc 😀
No kidding, huh!?!
I never thought of it that way, Keith. tfw!
Hopefully I can tell a few of those stories in future videos. tfw
