The sign on the box is actually a seal of Russian Federal Customs Service. Given that almost every branch of Russian gvt has some kind of paramilitary/law enforcement unit in its roster, we can assume that this ration was produced for them.

Hello guys from Siberia, from an experienced user of these army rations. I watched the video with a smile, there are some points that we do not do with these products and items. The dry fuel burner should be turned over with its sharp edges down and flatter, sharp edges towards the ground. You do not need to open porridge and soups when heating, or you need to slightly open a small edge, if instead of a burner you burn over a higher heat, then it will be more saturated and not so dry and naturally the heating process will be faster. Vegetable stew (appetizer) is practically not heated in our country, it is usually used to quickly snack on a biscuit with vegetables or add it as a cold salad to a hot one. Tea is not brewed until it is very tart and strong, which will ruin its taste and, for some, increase blood pressure, which is sometimes unnecessary. Also, I did not see in the set hunting matches of a larger size and impregnated with a special compound, because of which they do not go out into the wind even when wet. Bon appetit and rest to everyone
PS with pills for disinfection is a separate laugh))) I was afraid that you would brew them with tea

@@albundy3867 hello, you're welcome :) a plastic knife is something like a funny multitool) it can be used as a clothespin for an open bag from which not all the food was taken out (mashed potatoes, for example), you need to twist the edges of the bag and clamp it like a paper clip. in fact, the equipment is not always the same, somewhere there are already just plastic flat knives, as well as a little advice on warming up porridge with meat, you need to cut the pressed porridge directly in the package into pieces into cubes like a cake and add a drop of water

  • @vladeslaw92

Those small pills are water purifiers. And about heating the meal... When I was in Russian army we were making a hole by this plastic knife in a package in order to prevent it from exploding. Because if you open the package it takes ages to heat it up so that's a solution we came with. Want to mention that the meal was designed with an idea that you're supposed to eat everything with crackers like apple jam, grounded vegetables and of course the main dish. You may warm up vegetables but usually we had been eating them cold when I was in Russian army.

You shouldn't open the packs before puting it on fire. It heats up much faster and it's the intended way. Just be careful not to burn your food that way. Also MREs have wind-resistant matches to light the fuel up: ignite one match and lay it on top of the fuel pad and let it burn.

It's not necessary to heat it up but it tastes better. The other tin is beef i believe mixed with buckwheat, pretty neat stuff to get, also it needs good stirring as not to get burnt when cooked on the little stove. It's interesting to see a marine trying these out and question himself what he's dealing with :). There are more than 10 different compositions of dishes. There are also specialized rations where different packaging is used, maybe a flameless heater, as in American rations, a different set of dishes, mostly additional goodies and drinks. Even army biscuits are available in 3 different varieties, green being the most common, blue from wholemeal flour, and red from rye flour or with its addition, if I'm not mistaken. :)

While not looking very appetizing to the typical westerner, the Russian rations are not bad at all. They are rations more for "adult" taste buds unlike what you will find in modern US mre's and there is no question which I prefer. It's not fancy or much variety, but what you get is decent "real food" that doesn't taste like bad canned pasta and sugar. The vegetable caviar, the apple preserve spread and pate's being particularly outstanding. I would eat these at home. The cheese spread is ok, very mild but nothing noteworthy and while the heavy buckwheat porridges are not exactly my cup of tea, put enough salt on them and they are perfectly fine and would be decent for cold weather meals as well.

It was interesting to hear your view on this mre being filling, grains (buckwheat, barley, rice) are staple of russian military food - it's easy to mass cook and will fill stomach fast. Being on internet i've learned that US spends money and effort to engineer their food to bring interesting food items into mres like pizza to boost morale, and in general takes into account psychology of a common soldier. And russian mres are like "you had a meal? You don't feel hungry anymore? Then job well done!" xD

Нам не разрешали отпускать длинные волосы в соображениях личной гигиены и защиты от вшей (Педикулез). Каждое утро, ты должен быть коротко стрижен, и чисто выбрит. Вот залог успеха каждого солдата. 24:58 fun fact
there’s a reason US MREs are smaller than RF MREs
US MREs are packed with all kinds of shit like vitamins etc you are basically eating a protein shake mixed with preservatives
being smaller doesn’t necessarily mean less
the main reason they are smaller is because the US learned from D-day
having a full belly and taking a injury to the intestines is a medical nightmare for any surgeon not only because of sepsis but because of the time it will take to clean any food that removed itself from the digestive tract making the chance of survival for others far lower in a mass casualty scenario given medical practitioners are occupied because of a mre was to big
so basically the US came up with the idea of how can we make it just as nutritional if not more at a smaller size
anyways our MREs pack a punch for their size and increase your chance of survival

Greetings from Poland! I loved this video and the Polish MRE video too! The American terriyaki beef MRE had to be from about 1993. I'm an American teacher in Poland. When I was a kid, my Dad bought MRE's in bulk for hunting trips. I remember the MRE series just before the beef terriyaki and they always had little bottles of Tabasco Sauce and those big flat flavorless crackers with the oatmeal bars that were good but always crumbled to pieces! The Food in both The Russian and Polish MRE's are common for this part of the world. Potted meat, Pasta dishes and tomato and papryka preserves are everyday stuff. Buckwheat grits and meat are some of my favorite foods. There is also a sausage called kashanka. (Buckwheat grits and blood sausage with a tripe sausage caseing) Kashanka is good as a summer grill sausage and also as a pan fried sausage when you're on a shoe string budget as packs of kashanka are reasonably priced at the supermarket.

It’s been almost 20 years since he retired. I’m now wondering if he can still get on base with his Veterans card… I may have to continue the tradition with my boys now that they are old enough to hunt.
