  • Remember the days of the Wizard of Oz massive display in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas? Those were the days when the city was trying to change its image to a "family friendly" destination. Well, as gambling sales dropped- so did the idea.
    In this video, you can follow Barb and Cheri back to that magical time and visit some of the towns best attractions. Enjoy!

    My first time entering MGM is when they had the Wizard of Oz at the entrance and I still have this photo...but of course MGM had to take it down. They really should stop tinkering with everything on the strip... every time I've been there since, it's changed yet again...and not always for the better

    It’s amazing to me how companies like MGM can completely destroy a product instead of making it better. Look how awesome that Lobby that is. Fun machines the land of oz. MGM is a shell of its former self. I was there over the weekend and it’s a complete dump with trash bag clientele.

    Nice video.. Ty for posting.. I love old video's of Vegas since i been going since 1980..So much has changed. I truly believe trying to make Vegas a family place was a bad idea. I still love Vegas but it isn't as person friendly as it used to be..

    • @MM-yb2fy
      @MM-yb2fy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I somewhat disagree. The family friendly phase was when we got all these themed hotels.
      Now they all dethemed and all look the same lacking any character.

    I really do think this type of Vegas could work. This attraction looks far better than anything in the MGM right now and I wasn’t even alive when this video was made. The locals here are hiding in the suburbs because “things weren’t like they used to be”. I say a call to NYC to get the mob back together to run this city and get the corporate people out would be a good start.

    Great footage! The 'Vegas' of my youth. It was perhaps that imposing visage of the MGM Lion 1:04 That led to the entrance reconstruction. Apparently, Tourists from the Far East found it Superstitious to be "swallowed" by the great Lion upon entering the 'Grand.'

    Don’t know if it’s true or not but one reason why the MGM lion entrance was removed because of reports that so many Chinese gambling guests refused to enter the jaws of a lion to come inside, considering it "bad luck" in their culture.

    There was nothing like Vegas from 1980-1995. Then in the mid 90's it got commercialized and became expensive. Today Vegas is not the value vacation it was. Lodging and food are overpriced ie $49 buffets. We fired Vegas about fifteen years ago for Lake Tahoe.

Im here now with my kids wanting to show them the stuff I loved in Vegas when I was young and the pirate show at treasure island is gone, the dragon and wizard at Excalibur are gone, no Wizard of Oz at the Mgm and no show of the God's at Caesars Palace.
