@@QSNgg they have been vey hit and miss over the years as in 2019 they won the tournament with a grand slam and las t year and the year before was one of their worst six nations performances
@@QSNgg Wales can be one of the best but also one of the worst teams in the six nations and it varies hugely by the year. In 2019 and 2021 six nations, Wales won the grand slam (i.e beat all teams without a single loss or draw), but the year right after that in 2022 Wales lost to Italy. We've actually got the most six nations wins, tied with England in the amount, but a lotta that happened before italy joined
The Johnny Sexton Drop goal measures around some 44-45 meters as you can see the half way (50m) line (of the pitch) just behind him. And so yes, that one was Truly a Beast of a kick right there.
I'm biased but Sexton's drop-goal is my number one - 41 phases when we looked dead and buried - in Paris against all odds, both teams exhausted - incredible belief building in that team.. th-cam.com/video/JPIe80zR250/w-d-xo.html

5:47 : Oh the Italian clever move. Don't worry, you're not the only one who didn't understand it, the English player didn't either. The ruck is the "pile of players" on top of the ball carrier after a tackle. The defending team must be behind the feet of their players in the ruck, they're not allowed to just run forward and try to intercept until the ball has left the ruck. Normally, once you're tackled, your team piles on you to make sure nobody can steal the ball, the other teams piles on you to try to steal the ball, the ref declares "ruck" and so on, but Italy used a quirk in the rule that stated that a ruck required players from both side to be formed, so they tackled, English players piled up as they've been taught to, but there was nothing to defend against (look at 4:57, you see Italy's 8 doing the tackle, then no Italian player jump in, but England has a total of 6 players in that pile). By rule, this was not a ruck, as there were no Italian players in it, therefore, there was no offside line : Italian defenders were free to go setup behind the English pile. To give an AF equivalent, it'll be like if a team suddenly found a loophole in the rules to setup their defense behind the offense. England got utterly confused for the first half, before their coach told them the one big flaw in the Italian plan : if you setup behind the center, it means you've got less people in front and your RB can just go wild, it's essentially what they did, they used pick and go, players just picking the ball of the ground and running forward, something that the Italian's clever move couldn't defend against, and dominated the rest of the match. Still, everybody remembers the time Italy showed the world both, the existence of the loophole, and why nobody bothered to use it before. It was fixed soon after, I'm pretty sure the ruck happens automatically after the tackle is done now. 6:57 : That was a 45m drop goal, so around 49 yards. Not the farthest drop goal ever made by far, even in recent memory, South Africa's François Steyn once scored a 60m (~66 yards) drop goal during a match in France's 1st division, but still an insanely impressive (and painful from a French point of view) kick from Ireland's former leader. 9:02 : The ref told him there was time, so he kicked into touch. They were 3 points behind, they could have taken the 3 to tie the game, but they went for touch, trying to get a try. The ref was wrong, he was told the time was up, and back then this kick in touch meant the match was over. This was changed, now in such a situation if you get a penalty and time is over, you can kick it into touch and keep playing. 10:09 : A Grand Slam means winning all your matches during the 6 Nations. Winning the tournament is nice, but Grand Slam are the only wins that really matter. 13:39 : No questions for that one, but I can't stop myself. For the context, this is the second-biggest loss in English rugby history, the biggest loss in English rugby history at home, the biggest gap in a France - England match (3 points off being the biggest amount of points scored by one side during a France - England match, England's 55 - 35 win still keeps that title) and, as far as my French heart is concerned, the single most enjoyable match in rugby history. Fans left the stadium with 10min to go, the sideline French commentator was shocked and unable to remember a single time this had happened in this stadium before while another commentator was, jokingly, asking if it was possible to close the arena's door to make sure the English fans "enjoyed" the party to the end. The best way to summarize this match in one sentence comes from The Guardian : "Talk about a guillotine falling with brutal finality".
Thank you so much for your incredible detailed breakdown of all the questions I had. Your context and insight gave me so much clarity. I really appreciate you! I'm excited to continue watching and learning rugby inside and out. There are so many cool unique details to the game that I love. I hope that I can attend a Six Nations game this year or in the near future. After seeing the Netflix documentary I really love how France ran their team. And you all have incredible players! I love DuPont and Gaël Fickou. Good luck at Six Nations this year. Only a week away! I'm excited 🙌🏽
@@QSNgg Always happy to help =) This next Six Nations should be very interesting. An entire generation has left, every team except Italy and France has lost core players because of this, while we have both our playmakers out (Ntamack is still injured and Dupont decided to skip the 6N and take a break from 15-rugby to join our Olympic 7-rugby team), so nobody really knows how it'll go and who'll win. Well, we all know it won't be Italy and probably won't be Wales or England either, but Ireland, France or maybe Scotland, who knows ? It should be a very good 6N =)
The Italy vs Wales time out controversy was that time was up on the clock but the referee told wales they had ten seconds left. Only after they had kicked the ball into touch for the line out did the TMO come in and say time was up. Had they been given the correct information by the officials then they more than likely would have gone for the shot at the posts to tie the game.
That makes a better sense. Thanks for letting me know the context of the situation. That stinks that they weren't given the correct information and it cost them a chance to play on
@@QSNgg This incident prompted a rules change, now even if time is up, if you get a penalty, you're allowed to kick it to touch and still get the throw in.
As others have eluded to, Wales and England don't really get many highlights in this package. It's funny, because Andrew Forde is Welsh and tends to give Wales more of its dues than other compilation channels, who like to pretend we don't exist. For Wales, having won 4 Grand Slams and 2 further Championships, we are the joint most successful team since it became the 6N in 2000. But we do blow hot and cold (2007: finishes 5th and gets knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages later that year followed by a Grand Slam in 2008). Andrew Forde does have a 33min video dedicated to Welsh rugby with highlights as far back as the winning try against New Zealand in 1953 (the last time we beat them). Lots of highlights from the 1970s which is considered the golden age of Welsh rugby (2nd out of 3 golden ages, i would argue, the others being 1900-1911 and 2008-19), but plenty more from other eras. If i could pick 4 positive moments (25 from 6 teams ~4) from Wales Six Nations it would be: -Gavin Henson tackles on Matthew Tait. 2005 v England. Maybe Henson's overall performance in that game (he set up Wales' try and scored the winning kick and was generally excellent) - Welsh pack shunts France off their own scrum, 5m from Wales' try line, in a Grand Slam decider. 2008 v France - Shane Williams scores winning try in 81st minute after being 10 points down on 73 minutes. 2010 v Scotland - Alex Cuthbert 2nd try to secure title. 2013 v England
That's awesome! Thanks so much for your detailed and informative comment. I know that Wales has a very rich history and has accomplished a lot. That's why I was shocked to see them on the tail-end of defeat in this compilation. I'm definitely going to check out more positive highlights from Wales so I can have the well-rounded storyline and see their amazing feats and victories 🙌🏽
You should do a deep dive on players as you'll get a insight into how they get to pro level. Finn Russell has a great story and as a player elevates every team hes on.
That would be awesome! Thanks so much for the idea, I'll definitely think about doing that I learned about Finn Russell from the Netflix documentary. He's definitely a fun personality that adds a lot of flavor to the game
You gotta react to Jonah Lomu! He was a New Zealand Winger who transformed the role of wingers in rugby forever because of how big and powerful he was!
I’ll try explain the Italy one as best I can. Essentially when the law was like that, once a ruck was formed (both an attacking and defending player were contesting over the ball) an offside line was created at the tackled players back foot (basically the guy that had been tackled, he presents the ball back to his team and whichever body part is furthest from the ball/closest to the defensive side is where the offside line is created, inline with that body part which is normally the foot if they’re in a long present position), that prevents the defending team from advancing past that offside line until the attacking team plays the ball as they would be penalised for being offside. In this case, Italy did not compete in the ruck, which meant no offside line was created and that’s why they could stand past the ruck and block passes/just get in the way. Since that happened the law has changed to now state a ruck is formed when one player is involved in a ruck, so now to prevent this from happening the attacking team just needs to put one player over the ball and then officially a ruck is formed, which would normally occur anyway to prevent a jackal. Hope that makes sense !
Italy found a loophole and caused chaos. The most fun part was the England players asking the ref what was going on and what they could do, and him replying "talk to your coach, it's not my job to tell you what to do"
You should check out squidge rugby. He has an amazing channel that breaks down the games really well. His latest video is about a Welsh rugby star (Louis Reese Zammit )moving to NFL. I’m sure you will enjoy it.
@@alexbarclay9615 I am an English fan so might make my point invalid, but surely allowing that loophole makes the game much less exciting? Teams would resort to pick and go’s, wouldn’t be able to pass wide because of opposition just getting in the way of passes and the game would just become less of an open free flowing experience? I’m not complaining about Italy making the most of it they absolutely can and did, but more just also agree with the law being changed after that
As you said Wales have a fine history in this sport, but I wonder if you have a idea of how small a pool of people they have to pick from, compared to say England? according to the 2023 census: Wales 3.3 million people (it's similar sizes give or take, for both Scotland and Ireland, so all three of those nations punch way above their weight.) London Alone 9.65 million England in total pop 67.7 million
Thanks so much for letting me know these facts. I appreciate you 🙌🏽 I really love learning and understanding the history from a deeper level. Wales is definitely playing above their weight, especially from the stats you've referenced. It really gives me a great perspective on how tough they are as a nation
Thanks so much boss I really appreciate you! I'll keep the content rolling for sure and support Wales too! It's been fun and I'm learning a lot from you and the entire community 🙌🏽
The dodgy Welsh line out at @15:30 ish is like this (pretty sure...) The line out happens when the ball goes (in)to touch which is 'out of bounds' I guess for AF. It can be executed quickly if the original ball is solely handled by players before it is thrown; no spectators, no ball-boys, no touchline official, no press etc. In reality this also means no opposition as they will hold on to it to ensure their teamates have assembled - are defensive. So it only really happens when a player, typically wing or fullback, catches a long punt. Then the ball can thrown it back in before opposition players arrive. It is quite common. The throw still needs to clear the line parallel to touch for min-throw length and can't be forward.
Thanks so much for letting me know about that. I was definitely confused watching it the first time, but your explanation make perfect sense. Thanks for your amazing comment and insight. It's very helpful 🙌🏽
14:50 Yeah when it goes into touch and the players want to use it fast, the same ball has to be used. Also the play started about 10m in front of where it initially went out.
The important thing to remember about Italy is that they never usually win games. They still have never beaten England in 22 years of being in the 6 nations so if you’re watching the games, hope Italy win unless they’re playing Scotland!
Thanks for letting me know. That's very helpful! I was surprised to see that on the Netflix documentary when they mentioned that the league was considering dropping Italy from the Six Nations due to lack of performance 😬
@@QSNgg Yep we've had a season ticket for god knows now, 20 odd years maybe? Missing France game as I'm going skiing but will make the Calcutta cup match vs England

Great vid. If you’re not familiar with the British and Irish Lions Tour, I’d strongly suggest looking into the history of it. Started in 1888, and some of the recent games/series have been incredible. Check out the second test between the Lions and South Africa from 2009 - absolute war
Thanks so much for checking out my video and I really appreciate you! 🙌🏽 I'll take a look at the British and Irish Lions as well as the match from 2009 you mentioned.
17:25 The two main codes of rugby are league and union. Union is the most widely played and it's what you're watching in this video. League is popular in Australia and the north of England. The biggest difference is that in League play stops when a tackle is completed, and possession changes after a certain number of completed tackles (not unlike "downs" in American Football). Rucks are unique to Union as far as I'm aware. I'm not a League guy, it's not really a thing in Ireland. "Aussie rules" (Australian Football) is a completely different sport. Except for the shape of the ball and the tackling, it plays more like Gaelic football than rugby (in fact GAA players are often recruited to AFL teams and there are occasional exhibition matches between Australian AFL players and Irish GAA players where they use a combined ruleset. It's pretty cool)
That's really awesome! Thanks so much for letting me know about the different codes and Aussie rules. I prefer Union the most, because it resemble American football which I grew up playing. I love the speed and intensity or the game That's so cool that AFL and GAA play a combined ruleset. I did not know about that. Thanks so much for your incredible comment and teaching me more about the game I really appreciate you! 🙌🏽
“springboks vs B & I lions | the most physical series in rugby” at some point please. these games with the british and irish lions (a selection of the best players from britain and ireland) only happen every 4 years against either australia, new zealand and south africa (they rotate every 4 years). the games against the best and most physical team in the world (south africa) are particularly competitive and fierce. this would be a good video for you to check out at some point in my opinion if others agree of course please.
@@HeeniKeke you’re right. I worded it wrong. I am not encouraging violence of course, I just meant that it’s a very physical game, but I already said “physical” once so I wanted to use another word alongside “competitive”. my bad. I’ll change it now.
@@QSNgg no problem. we appreciate you taking your time to read through and like and respond to the comments. I respect that a lot. it doesn’t go unnoticed. thank you.
@@HeeniKekeRugby is one of the most violent sports out there now with AFL and ice hockey dumbing down their contact rules slightly (still love hockey but AFL seems more boring now without the same contact)
The ruck-gate was a perfectly legal tactic. an interpretation by Conor O’Shea, of the laws on rucking, in which the Italian team did not contest the ball after tackling an England player, meaning they did not have to adhere to an offside line. This law was changed like straight away, i think before the next game.
Why is every video just wales losing in the last minute. We won the grandslam in 2021, and won in 2019, but all Andrew Forde wants to put in the video is us losing even though he's Welsh.
5:08 clearly shows no9 England was about to pass, but an Italian player was waiting there to intercept the pass. If a ruck has been established, only "onside" Italian players are allowed to tackle no9 or intercept "Onside" here means, Italian players that are behind the ball or "ruck line". "Ruck line" divides 2 half of the playing pitch at that moment in time. In other words, any Italian players in the England side of the "ruck line" are considered in the "offside" position & are not allowed to be involve in that particular play. In this case, no ruck were established bcoz NO Italian player was engaged in that ruck that England was trying to create. U can see in that pile of bodies, there were NO Italian player... so, there were NO ruck. Since no ruck was formed, the Italian player that u see trying to intercept the ball is actually ONSIDE.
Thanks so much for letting me know. I was very confused at what was going on at first. I had to look at Ruck 101 videos and learn from comments. Everything you mentioned is incredibly helpful, so thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to explain what's going on.
7:04 That Scotland comeback against England gave me PTSD because they nearly pulled an Atlanta Falcons last night against Wales, 28-3 if you what I mean.
to put the ruck-gate tactic in (American) Football terms, imagine if at the start of a down the defense don't place any defensive linemen in front of the center then they are allowed to place defenders BEYOND the line of scrimmage and not get any offsides penalty.
So first a grand slam is when you win all your 5 games, which is obviously very difficult to do. Second Johnny Sexton's kick for Ireland was 45 meters or just under 50 yards. Duhan Van de Merwe is 6" 4' 233lbs. For a quick line out to be taken, the ball MUST be the same and untouched by anyone but the players. Thanks for the vid bro
Wow, Wales took a beating in this video. I am confident that in the sequel coming soon Mr.Forde will rectify that and show a few if the many good moments for Wales.
The ruck thing was because Italy didnt put any players in after tackling there isn’t technically a ruck so they could tackle the number 9 as he picked the ball up

6 nations are, England, wales, Scotland, Ireland and France. Wales are one of the most successful teams in the six nations, with the past 4 years being our lowest performing era. This compilation doesn’t paint us in the best light. Check out wales between 2012-2019 being our “golden era” Grand slam is same team winning all 5 games. Italy are known for being the worst “top nation” not winning anything for pretty much the entire time they’ve been part of the competition however this year they technically SHOULD have won 3/4 games already played with another potential win against wales tomorrow. definitely worth watching their games this year!
Wales have been going through it 🤣 they've had some hard luck since 6 nations started but they were equal with 7 championships before this year as you watch these videos notice how the physical changes of the players have changed since the game became professional 👍
@@QSNgg rugby union became professional in 1995 but in one of the videos you have reacted to (32 greatest tries) or something like that you'll see Gareth Edwards scoring one of the greatest team tries of all time however since then it's more a physical game and less skill but there is still a lot of highly skilled players out there, Jonah lomu was kind of the starting point for huge fast ripped rugby players
@@QSNgg ironically Wales has a chance, and I wouldn't rule out Scotland, England is in transition as is France, Ireland have to be favourites and Italy i think are too damaged after the World Cup
So the ruck is formed when the ball carrier is tackled to the ground, the ball carrier and the tackler release and the ball can now be contested on the floor. When the ruck is formed it forms an offside line that the defending team cannot cross. Because the defending team (Italy) did not compete for the ball it is not a ruck, therefore no offside. Therefore Italy could advance beyond the offside line that did not exist. The law was changed after this game.

A grand slam is where one team wins all five of their matches. Considering that each team has to play a minimum of two games away from home this is very difficult. Since 2000 England, Ireland, Wales and France have all done the grand slam at least twice. Scotland are still in the hunt for a grand slam even though they did the last grand slam when in the five nations of 1999. Italy has never won the tournament or a grand slam.

I want to get a well-rounded and accurate view of Wales and all the teams involved from their incredible history. The only team I learned is wooden spoon pretty much every year is Italy
That italy loss st the start from a wales perspective was scandalous. About 5-10 mins before ange capuzzo scored that wonder try, wales had an obvious try disallowed by the referee andrew brace. If that try had stood then we would have narrowly beaten italy, still an embarrassing state of affairs for wales fans but the only reason those italy players won and were all crying like they had just won the cup was because the referee was clearly incompetent. Italy were shit that game and were incredibly lucky to win. Don't get me wrong wales were really shit back then too but we still should have won that game. Just to show that i am not just a biased wales fan, we lost to georgia the following year which actually was really embarrassing. I can't blame the ref or the officials for that loss, georgia got us fair and square and georgia are arguably a worse team than italy so its not like i wont give worse teams credits when they deserve it.
That makes a lot of sense. It's tough to see when games are decided by the referee and not the player on the field. It really taints the experience of the game and the competition I really appreciate your perspective and insight on this as well.
@@QSNgg Always happy to help =)
This next Six Nations should be very interesting.
@@TheLK641 it was actually good interpretation by Conor O’Shea.
If i could pick 4 positive moments (25 from 6 teams ~4) from Wales Six Nations it would be:
-Gavin Henson tackles on Matthew Tait. 2005 v England. Maybe Henson's overall performance in that game (he set up Wales' try and scored the winning kick and was generally excellent)
- Welsh pack shunts France off their own scrum, 5m from Wales' try line, in a Grand Slam decider. 2008 v France
- Shane Williams scores winning try in 81st minute after being 10 points down on 73 minutes. 2010 v Scotland
- Alex Cuthbert 2nd try to secure title.

I'll definitely react to Jonah Lomu! Thanks for letting me know!
The most fun part was the England players asking the ref what was going on and what they could do, and him replying "talk to your coach, it's not my job to tell you what to do"
@@UKJesterVids haha I remember watching it thinkings what is this witchcraft, a clever loophole found indeed

I’m not complaining about Italy making the most of it they absolutely can and did, but more just also agree with the law being changed after that
As you said Wales have a fine history in this sport, but I wonder if you have a idea of how small a pool of people they have to pick from, compared to say England? according to the 2023 census:
Wales 3.3 million people (it's similar sizes give or take, for both Scotland and Ireland, so all three of those nations punch way above their weight.)
London Alone 9.65 million
England in total pop 67.7 million

@@QSNgg of course. love that🏴 keep it up🙌
The dodgy Welsh line out at @15:30 ish is like this (pretty sure...) The line out happens when the ball goes (in)to touch which is 'out of bounds' I guess for AF.

Thanks for the context on this play. I appreciate you!

I'll take a look at the British and Irish Lions as well as the match from 2009 you mentioned.

Yeah there were a lot of videos against Wales. All heartbreaking loses
We won the six nations in 2021, not the grand slam.
5:08 clearly shows no9 England was about to pass, but an Italian player was waiting there to intercept the pass.
If a ruck has been established, only "onside" Italian players are allowed to tackle no9 or intercept
"Onside" here means, Italian players that are behind the ball or "ruck line".

7:04 That Scotland comeback against England gave me PTSD because they nearly pulled an Atlanta Falcons last night against Wales, 28-3 if you what I mean.
Yeah that ATL Falcons game was a complete disaster! I know exactly what you mean 🤣🤣
to put the ruck-gate tactic in (American) Football terms, imagine if at the start of a down the defense don't place any defensive linemen in front of the center then they are allowed to place defenders BEYOND the line of scrimmage and not get any offsides penalty.
That makes perfect sense! Thanks so much for the perfect comparison. That's very helpful. I appreciate you Tom 🙌🏽
The ruck gate tactic basically tricks Italy into giving them a lot longer time to set up a play than usual.
Thanks for letting me know. I was trying to wrap my head around what was going on
So first a grand slam is when you win all your 5 games, which is obviously very difficult to do. Second Johnny Sexton's kick for Ireland was 45 meters or just under 50 yards. Duhan Van de Merwe is 6" 4' 233lbs. For a quick line out to be taken, the ball MUST be the same and untouched by anyone but the players. Thanks for the vid bro

"Damn Wales has had some bad luck" is their national anthem
Man that's tough to see teams struggle. Who do you have winning 6N this year?
Thanks so much for the detailed response and clarification. I really appreciate you!
That makes a lot of sense to me now. I was confused trying to understand what was going on. Your insight brought me a lot of clarity, so thank you 🙌🏽
@@QSNgg England didn’t understand on the day either.
There were some who accused Italy of not playing within the spirit of the game. But they weren’t technically doing anything wrong.

Never seen this video before but great video and reaction. i love the 6 nations, Rugby is the greatest sport in the world. Soccer is a gentleman’s game played by thugs. . Rugby is a thug’s game played by gentlemen. The values of this game are phenomenal and the camaraderie even between enemy teams and fans is a thing of beauty. As an Irish fan I have been at games in foreign countries where our team fans carried the opposition supporters on our shoulders to the nearest pub and bought them drinks and had a great night with them. unbelievable experience.
Thanks so much for your kind words and checking out my video Davy. I really appreciate you 🙌🏽
I love that quote you mentioned about soccer vs rugby. As I've been learning more rugby I'm finding it to really be true.
There is so much respect for one another in Rugby which I really appreciate. It's competitive and respectful which makes the games so much fun to watch.
You said it perfectly and I agree and love the values of the game and the camaraderie it creates for players and fans. It's really refreshing to see
A grand slam is where one team wins all five of their matches.
You're awesome!! I'm learning so much already! Thanks for letting me know!
Hopefully I can make a Six Nations game to see it live! That would be fun
@@QSNgg I am also desperate to see a game. Tickets can be very pricy. But I have gone to other international matches at Twickenham and the atmosphere is incredible.
By all accounts Wales VS England in Cardiff is the best atmosphere.
What’s was the RUGBY 🏉 video game you used to play ?
I think it was just called Rugby 08. They were all EA Sports games
Welcome to the six nations or 5 nations and the English as I call it, notice almost all these highlights apart from 2 don`t feature England's best moments lol and there are hundreds that could have easily made it. Wales too are under represented here lol. I reckon it`s a Scot that made this video, the Ireland 41 phases to win against France was legendary.
I imagine there are hundred of highlights from England and Wales. I want to find some videos that showcase those moments so I can get a well-rounded picture of Six Nations.
The documentary on Netflix was really good and gave me a lot more insight which I love
That Ireland 41 phases you mentioned sounds amazing! I'll have to see if I can watch the full game

I’ve really been enjoying your rugby videos. You should definitely react to some Springbok (South Africa) and All Blacks (New Zealand) videos. They are the best two teams in the world. As someone from the southern hemisphere I’m probably being quite biased (and cheeky) when I say that the 6 Nations are lucky that only northern hemisphere teams play in the tournament 😋
I don’t know if you watched the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but you should definitely react to some of the highlights from the World Cup. There were some absolutely nail biting matches.
Actually southern teams are not better than the northern one, especially France and Ireland
Thanks so much for your kind words and for checking out my videos. I really appreciate you! I'll definitely react to Springbok and the All Blacks.

@@baptistefraisier5940 fair enough, Ireland is brilliant and did beat the springboks in their pool stage game. Also, France made us (South Africa) really work hard for the win. The France v SA quarter final was one of the best and most stressful games of rugby I’ve ever watched.

The fact that Wales didn't have 1 positive in this... Makes me wonder who put this together. You should look at Wales incredible games, tackles, tries, wins, grand slams, heartbreaks... But not one positive in this compilation... Disappointing.. I won't watch the end of this video because of it.
Yeah I was shocked to see Wales on the losing end of a lot of these. I'm going to check out Wales highlights and more positive outcomes for sure!
It really taints the experience of the game and the competition
I really appreciate your perspective and insight on this as well. You helped me have a deeper understanding of the situation instead of just a highlight
Thank you 🙌🏽
