I went into the gun shop to pick up a Smith & Wesson 686 and I ended up walking out with the Match Champion. I instantly fell in love with it. Fits my hand perfectly :-)
I just checked the Calif Roster - the Ruger GP100 Match Champion IS ON the roster through Jan 2017. Ruger also shows it on their list of Calif Compliant handguns
The trigger on this gun is excellent. It is so smooth it is possible to pull just the right amount and hold it, to get a single action type pull in double action. Just like in the video.
So happy that The GP100 didn't fall off the roster. Ruger waited until the very last min and renewed. The approved handgun list gets smaller every year. Many fell off this year and there were 0 additions. I've missed out on a number of guns that fell off over the years, such as the Smith & Wesson M&P 9.
Revolvers are the only type that can be added to the roster without incurring an $8,000 or so price tag with the fairy tale micro stamp technology. It should be required for law enforcement guns as well.
Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing the GP 100 Match Champion for my first revolvers. I have been shooting pistols regularly for the past three years. My question is which sights to go with, Novak or adjustable target sights. This will primarily be a range gun.
I would recommend picking up both of them and comparing the sight picture side by side. You really can't go wrong. I prefer the low pro Novak sights but I have other handguns that have adjustable sights and they are also excellent. I wanted a fast wheel gun that would not get snagged on anything and that's why I chose the Novak sights. However if I wanted to get the tiniest groups at the range I would have went with the adjustable. Also, the models with adjustable sights don't have as large of a cutout in the top strap if that bothers you.
+Ghost HackI compared both models last night at my lgs. Also looked at the 686 and standard GP100. Considering the MC is only $100 more than the standard model, for me it's a no brainer! I really like the wood grips and the fiber optic up front. Thanks again for the video and your reply!.
nice video. i'm also a fan of the GP100-MC. it's an awesome value. had to swap in some wolff springs though as the DA pull is too heavy (the case with all ruger revolvers). of note though, 38sp is not on par with 9mm. the latter is substantially higher pressure round and generates much more velocity. 38sp does not break 300 ft-lbs....9mm does easily. even 38sp +P loadings are behind 9mm.
Underwood has some excellent .38 SPL loadings, including a couple of +P rounds in the 450-550ft-lb range. The latter is a HCFN and very reasonably priced.
Wow that's a great deal! Here in CA they are selling at close to MSRP. I could get a regular GP100 for that price but not the match champion. Definitely worth every penny in my book. How do you like yours?
+franklin williams Man I got to get out of Southern CA! Gun prices are super inflated here. It's hard to get a gun for under MSRP. I would have jumped on that in a heartbeat! How do you like your Ruger?
Definitely a quality piece of machinery. The local FFL just received one, it's EXTREMELY tempting!
Great revolver. I've shot 1000 rounds thru mine great accuracy, also used the Federal loads you show to kill wild hogs. Works great.
I love mine, Ruger did a good job. That Federal ammo your shooting is good stuff too
I love my Match Champion. The trigger is super sweet.

A 7-round version chambered for .327 Federal would be fantastic!

Still on that stoooopid roster in 2024, even though that moronic roster is going to be abolished soon anyway.

+Calvin Handley I agree, what will be left in CA after next year? It's so sad.
just seen at Turners today..going to get the ruger 45colt 45apc 1st..
I live in Redding CA and missed out on a M&P45 @ $545 before it fell off the list. Still crying about it.
I prefer the adjustable sites. I love this gun!

What if you need to adjust the rear sight? You can't adjust the Novak can you?
11 minutes and you didn't shootiit?
This is my next purchase. My lcrx won't handle 357 as good as the match champion
I also have the 686. I like my Ruger better.

These guns are going for $680 in most places, i bought mine used for $579

I like it but I got the adjustable sights
+R.J. L. I also gave 680$ for mine with adjustable sights.

+R.J. L. Good price! I feel they will go up quickly towards the end of 2016
CA has a list of approved you can only buy from? Lol.
Yeah
