I am really feeling your pain on this one! There are so many people in the world who when they 'complete' their task, just walk away! Let the next guy clean up the mess! Run into this at work almost daily. I hope you get paid handsomely for your efforts on this P.O.S.!
Ross, 60 years of being one handed (farm accident when I was 5) has taught me that when doing mechanic work, needle nose vise grips can be your friend. I have 3 of various sizes.
I have seen a lot of struggle and sadness on your videos, but I think this one wins the top prize. I can see why you get frustrated with these types of repairs, with what other folks do, or don't do to the rented equipment. Hang in there young man, you'll getter done! Thanks for sharing, hope you have a good night!
You need to spray stencil a sign on top of that tiny seed hopper lid "not for fertilizer" because the same one who put it in last time will do it again and here you'll be.
Hey Ross, do you think SS bolts and cotter pins would be any help for future repairs? McMaster Carr has hardware like that in different grades of stainless. Idk which type would be best for your situation, but might be worth looking into?
Man, what a chore. That looks to be as bad as taking the unit drive shaft out of a planter that has to come out each end and slide out of all of the unit sprockets that are usuall seized up just like those seed wheels. Great video.
Stainless bolts seem like a great idea, but they gall up extremely easy. You'll have to cut them off if you barely overtighten them. We have to use them at work occasionally and I dread them
Tedious tedious tedious. Sometimes that makes the job worse than what it really is? Reminds me of replacing all the sections of a 9 foot sickle (if one can get it detached from the Pitman gear). Only worse. I salute your bravery Ross.
Ross something to talk to the owner about this project. if they buy a new whole outfit and just swap out into new then rebuild the wore out one in winter time maybe a winter project then you will have a complete unit to swap out once a year ?.
Serious sadness . I would have ground off each end of the cotter key and punched them out. You had them spinning in the hole. just my thoughts . I Enjoy your channel keep on keeping on .
Ross, 100% someone has put granular fertilizer in that box. There is no reason for those cotter pin to cause that much sadness other that fertilize corrosion.
I hope once things slow down, you start working on 1 project at a time to full completion instead of doing bits and pieces of this one and that one... Then you can fully working tractors. Also really need to stop buying new pieces, until youve finished what you have, and can store everything properly, because your asking for issues storing them in the field
Well, last I checked, I’m the one who’s working to get the paycheck I can spend my money however I want. My stuff always takes a backseat when a paying customer comes along.

Sadness from Hell, I’ would have given up a long time ago

Small seed box of extreme sadness and exasperation
You probably said you were going to buy a new shaft the last time too but forgot
Last time it wasn’t this rusty. I think someone tried running fertilizer in it this time.

Hang in there you are close to the finish line and the $ for you labor.
Thanks for the review of a great plains drill. I wont be buying one of those. Our county rents tye drills they seem more robust.
That’s a sad sack of rusty grain drill!
You are wasting your talents on this piece of junk machine but it offers a bit of comedy for this viewer. Thanks for sharing.
It might seem like a waste, but the paycheck from it is kind of handy 🤣
