The officer who came to my house to take the report urged me to carefully consider pressing charges because of the ramifications my ex would have to deal with. I never cease to be amazed that people will say "No, I didn't hurt him, and I have no idea where he might be" and then they proceed to sit there and tell you all the bad things that person has done to you and they give you reason after reason after reason why that person is so low down that he doesn't really deserve to live. WHY are they so stupid? I think if I were in that situation, I would do nothing but sing the praises of the person missing and I would leave the cops with the impression that if he had ever done anything wrong in his life, I certainly must not have been aware of it. I am constantly reminded of what Lt. Joe Kenda (Homicide Hunter on TV) said. He said, "Most criminals are pretty stupid and we're glad they are because if they were smarter we wouldn't be able to catch so many of them." I actually understand this man's frustration. Why would the RCMP think that if you loaned someone your property that meant he could just keep it forever. Maybe I'm not as familiar with the word "loan" as I thought I was. I thought when you LOANED something to someone, it was understood that they would return it. Even if he didn't have a specific time in mind and left it loose like "Return my truck when you get your truck fixed" it seems to me that the loan is over if he demands that the item be returned. Can the "loanee" just say, "No, I'm not going to return it because I'm not through using it yet and in fact, I've kind of just decided I will keep it forever" and it appears that this is exactly what Ken has done. He has just decided he's going to keep the truck. Does the RCMP think you are you then supposed to just say, "Oh, okay. I THOUGHT that item was mine since I paid for it and I paid to keep it insured and the registration is in my name, but you just go right ahead on and keep it." I'm certainly not saying that he was right to take this man's life but like I said, I understand this guy's frustration and I think what Ken did to him was pretty lowdown. I also think he was treated very shabbily by the RCMP because at first he turned to them for help in getting his truck back and it was only after they refused to help him that he resorted to the illegal Plan B!
Laws are weird and I’m not sure how it works in Canada but when you loan something, a lot of the times it becomes a civil matter and you have to handle it in civil court as opposed to it being a criminal case. That’s why it’s very important when loaning anything to have something in writing that stipulates the terms but even then I’m not sure that guarantees you can file a stolen vehicle report after the loan “expires” I’ve seen this with rental car companies where people don’t get criminally charged for keeping the rental for longer than they were supposed to or refuse to return it play out in civil court where the rental company basically has to sue the renter to get car back plus damages. I’m sure it’s all dependent on the terms of any contract

It never ceases to amaze me how lenient the sentences are in Canada! A possibility of parole in 10 years for one of the murders and a possibility of parole in 20 for the other??! If those are consecutive and he gets granted it, he could be out in 20 years! I don't know when he was sentenced, but the video was timestamped '09, so what, he could be out in possibly 6 more years?! If you want to do a crime, cross the border! I wonder if Canada has considered changing their sentencing laws?...

I do not understand at all why the fact that he loaned the guy the key along with the truck is such a problem that it renders the police unable to get him his truck back. Like, how else are you gonna let someone use your vehicle than "loaning" it to them along with the key? Either I don't get something basic, or this is completely idiotic.

It never ceases to amaze me how lenient the sentences are in Canada! A possibility of parole in 10 years for one of the murders and a possibility of parole in 20 for the other??! If those are consecutive and he gets granted it, he could be out in 20 years! I don't know when he was sentenced, but the video was timestamped '09, so what, he could be out in possibly 6 more years?! If you want to do a crime, cross the border! I wonder if Canada has considered changing their sentencing laws?...

They don’t have a prison industrial system where private parties own prisons and make millions off people being incarcerated, giving incentives to holding people as long as possible for minor or serious crimes… this guy got life with parole in 20 years… he’ll either be dead in 20 years or on the doorstep… idk if thats lenient but this guy tried to use the system to get his truck back the system didn’t do it’s job and he took matters into his own hands… I don’t agree with his actions but I definitely kind of feel bad for this guy that he felt the need to take these actions to get what’s his back… he was hopeless and a hopeless person will do stupid things to get their dignity back.
