Out of all the BFG division vocal versions I’ve heard this one honestly feels the most right. Really appreciate the fact you even gave this a chance, much less enjoyed it :3 I've been a fan of Doom since it first came out. Was the first ever game I played in my life. Doing this meant something special to me. Probably still does in some way.
Well, I've found my new powersong for workouts. Used to be BFG Division. Naturally, the way you "improve" DOOM's soundtrack is to make it more violent.
I'm the kind of person who's lazy for a reason. When I try not to be lazy I get angry for no reason, especially when I'm working out. So if I wasn't lazy as fuck I'd be as angry as Doom Slayer 24/7, So if this was stacked on with that I'd be even angrier for no reason because I'd have this feeding the feeling, making it feel more right. Holy shit! I just... I can't even... Thank you so much for re-uploading this. I truly appreciate that you didn't let this disappear. It's nice to know that Gordon didn't get to completely sweep this away. To anyone who enjoyed this, I thank you kindly. If you didn't, I completely understand & if we all liked the same thing, the world would be a pretty dull place, would it not? But let it not be said that I didn't try. Boy was this cover a lot of work. I haven't watched the video or listened to the song since it was taken down, due to ol' Mickey destroying about 3 years of my respect for him in one single email. [There is a more in-depth explanation of that in the comments of a video about the copyright strikes. Not trying to shamelessly self-advertise or anything, just... It's there, alright?] I do plan to re-work the footage & bring this back at some point in the future, but would honestly prefer if you keep this version up after that's done. After hearing it again, I feel some stuff holds up really well, other bits not so much (Clean vocals could've definitely used more flare, not to mention maybe a couple of extra lyrics here & there). But I can also say the effort is all there, because this was a hell of a lot of effort, from writing to performing & mastering all the lyrics & vocals... And it was instantly dismissed with very much condescending judgement from the composer. I've already said this on my channel, but I admit to handling a few things very poorly with this upload. Short & simple answer; I was burned out at the time & just wasn't thinking straight. But there's having a right to protect your own property (Like Gordon had), and there's the matter of how you handle it. His was certainly the wrong way, and I really do hope it comes back to bite him in the ass. Just one other thing; I hope I'm not giving the impression that I want to bring anyone over to 'my side' or anything. If you're a fan of his work, I get it & was a fan of him myself (And if it wasn't for him doing the song, you wouldn't have these vocals). And it's important to remember that Doom is an awesome game that took the hard work & dedication of many people in many departments. I'm sure it's the same for Doom Eternal, and I hope many people support & enjoy it, for the sake of the Doom series (Which I have loved since I was 5 years old). However, I will be damned if I'm being quiet about this shit any longer. It was made very personal, and I'm angry at him to this day. Speaking of, if by any chance the composer ever sees this; Fuck you, Gordon. You may be very musically talented & within your rights to protect something you worked hard on, but that doesn't excuse you being a cowardly, lying & outright acidic little cretin of a human being. You may've worked hard on the music, but I worked bloody hard on these vocals. No amount of censorship will ever change that. How dare you not only try to destroy some nobody for no better reason than you could, but also hide behind cheap threats of lawyers & further strikes. You'd think that's kind of standard practice, even if it's just a template email they send out with whoever's name attached. Oh & a couple of other things; - He didn't help his case by immediately going into a toxic little rant about how disrespectful & theiving I am, the very second after the threats of having to fight the lawyers & a second copyright strike (That he actually told me was incoming), as if it was something he could hide behind. I get someone being protective of something they worked hard on it. I really do get that. But things just don't add up because of how they went down. I would show you screenshots of the conversation itself, my own initial message included. Unfortunately though, I was so enraged & disgusted with the guy, I very irrationally & foolishly deleted it. That's why I don't expect anyone to believe me or take this seriously, and I will be damned if I'm going to make myself out to be only a victim who could do no wrong. I made some pretty big mistakes, and so did he in doing what he did. But the difference between him & I, is that I admit to these mistakes. They weren't intentional or meant to be seen as they were, but they happened & that's that. Despite how embarrassingly unhinged I was while writing the message, and how long I went on about stuff that didn't even need to go into it, I do clearly remember making no threats or insults. And within a few minutes, he went straight for the jugular. If others took care of the problem, that's still overkill he should've known far better than to indulge in. I mean, the guy's a professional in the industry, for crying out loud. And there he was, acting like that 5 year old who howls at his own birthday party, because he doesn't get to stuff his face with every last bit of his own cake. The way in which his argument was presented was disgraceful, to say the least. Even I know that much about professional etiquette 101, and I make any amateur out there look like Troy Baker. I know that he's going to downplay this, or dismiss it. He has a career & reputation to look out for, and he can't be admitting to stuff that makes him look like a complete dick now, can he? But I will say this; At the very least, he's been forced to remember what he did. Many apologies for going on this long in response to such a short comment. I just... Well, as you might've guessed, I've had quite a bit of time to think about this. Many other things I could mention, but I'll save that for another time. SheyGrell admittedly I don’t know who to trust here, but you’re the only one without a reason to lie, but gordon has always been supportive of other people,doing covers of his music, so without evidence I can’t say for certain, if you are telling the truth then I wish you luck for the rest of your career, and no matter what the full story is, you made a great video, good job

Bell (Fear Factory, Ascension of the Watchers), Michael Bøgballe (Mnemic & Scamp), Guillaume Bideau (Mnemic, after Bøgballe), and Jens Kidman (Meshuggah). Also, A bit of Krieg from Borderlands 2 for the more 'theatric' side. Also the tone. - The "Rip! Tear!" bits are inspired by one of Gordon's earlier remixes from Killer Instinct; Spinal's Theme. There's a choir going "Flå" for the chorus (Swedish for 'Flay'). At the time, I wanted to show I was a big fan of his work. - Doom is in fact one of the first games, if not the first game I ever played. Got to enjoy it on someone else's computer, not long after it came out (A PC was enough of a mythical machine for 5+ year old me as it was, and I had no consoles whatsoever). In the weirdest manner that went horribly wrong, I honestly wanted to give something back to the community for keeping this series alive throughout the years. this is how metal vocals for DOOM tracks should be like. ive seen lots of other vocals for other tracks and they dont fit well. (except for homyksmash) Sheygrell and Exe did a great job on this and it sucks their og vid got taken down.
Actually... You might not be too far off there. The whole "Rip! Tear!" bit is inspired by a song from one of Gordon's earlier soundtracks; Killer Instinct. The idea was from Spinal's theme, where a backing choir is yelling "Flå!" (Swedish for 'flay'). And as far as I know, Spinal is supposed to have some kind of viking backstory in the new games. I dunno if you were serious about that or not, but there you have it >w>

I agree that he shouldn't have copyrighted him, but if you go to shygrell's comment on this video he says that mick gordon didn't have a right to copyright strike him, when he had used a copyrighted song in his video, you get what I'm saying mate?

@@FateOfNines Don't worry, I know what ya mean :3 Here's a little behind-the-scenes trivia for you; The idea behind that bit was supposed to be inspired by the band 'Fear Factory', as Burton C. Bell is my biggest influence when it comes to vocals. It was supposed to be a lot more boomy, with plenty more lower range & a bit of a choir-esque edge to it (Lower backing vocals that acted as bass, higher backing vocals for the start of each lyric; "Wake up", "Your life", etc). Unfortunately though, my nerves still get the better of me when it comes to vocals. It comes across as less of a badass section, and more of an 'Aspiring dork who disagrees with his life decisions' trying to do a badass section ^^; It's almost as if you could practically feel how awkwardly uncomfortable I am in the soundbooth. Believe me, I can tell you that upon reviewing this a few times now, sometimes I think "Yeeeah it could be worse", and other times I've just gone "Abort! ABORT!", and closed the tab. I feel the second chorus is a lot smoother, but that first one... Urgh x.x Basically, absolutely no offense taken. for I've got some critical opinion on this as well. I'm just glad you enjoyed anything about this :3

You can absolutely hear the unease; saying that having also snuck to hear a couple of other pieces you've done in the mean time! The voice is there but you gotta get that confidence out! We're just personalities on the internet, afterall, so let it loose! As for the FearFactory influence I can pick that up, but the representation of it is, hrm. For deep, layered, tones like that, I personally like to dig into inspiration from like, Pete Murray from Ultraspank, Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract and Skyharbor, and Cameron Heacock from American Head Charge. Deep, fluid tone, powerful ejections; those are the voices I look at and I feel like something inspired from those guys would REALLY hit the mark here! Either way I REALLY do enjoy it! I just feel like you can really polish it up, and if it's confidence holding you back throw that out of the window right now and just do it! @@FateOfNines Oh boy, those ones... Recorded with a vastly inferior mic & I was lucky the guy who did those songs was cool with it ^^; It was a different time on TH-cam, for both myself & the site. Still, since voice acting's my main department, vocals is something I always wanted to try. I know I can do it. All it takes is practice, and I've had some of that since this song. Gotta say, it's been years since I even heard the name American Head Charge! That's going back to some ridiculously early days. Pretty sure I've heard at least a couple of songs from all the others you've mentioned as well (Lots of compilation CD's & stuff). While it is amazing how guys like Heacock can belt out a chorus ('Just so You Know'... 'Nuff said), there's something absolutely unparallelled about Burton's clarity & power. Prime example; The ending of 'Pisschrist' gives me chills, everytime. He's one of the 3 vocalists I keep coming back to; You got him, Michael Bøgballe & Guillaume Bideau from Mnemic (But more so with Michael), and Jens Kidman from Meshuggah... Sooo many songs I want to do a cover of someday! There's other bits & pieces, but they're definitely my foundation. It's nice to know that Gordon didn't get to completely sweep this away. To anyone who enjoyed this, I thank you kindly. If you didn't, I completely understand & if we all liked the same thing, the world would be a pretty dull place, would it not?

I haven't watched the video or listened to the song since it was taken down, due to ol' Mickey destroying about 3 years of my respect for him in one single email.

I do plan to re-work the footage & bring this back at some point in the future, but would honestly prefer if you keep this version up after that's done.
After hearing it again, I feel some stuff holds up really well, other bits not so much (Clean vocals could've definitely used more flare, not to mention maybe a couple of extra lyrics here & there). But I can also say the effort is all there, because this was a hell of a lot of effort, from writing to performing & mastering all the lyrics & vocals... And it was instantly dismissed with very much condescending judgement from the composer.
I've already said this on my channel, but I admit to handling a few things very poorly with this upload. Short & simple answer; I was burned out at the time & just wasn't thinking straight. But there's having a right to protect your own property (Like Gordon had), and there's the matter of how you handle it. His was certainly the wrong way, and I really do hope it comes back to bite him in the ass.
Just one other thing; I hope I'm not giving the impression that I want to bring anyone over to 'my side' or anything. If you're a fan of his work, I get it & was a fan of him myself (And if it wasn't for him doing the song, you wouldn't have these vocals). And it's important to remember that Doom is an awesome game that took the hard work & dedication of many people in many departments. I'm sure it's the same for Doom Eternal, and I hope many people support & enjoy it, for the sake of the Doom series (Which I have loved since I was 5 years old).
However, I will be damned if I'm being quiet about this shit any longer. It was made very personal, and I'm angry at him to this day.
Speaking of, if by any chance the composer ever sees this; Fuck you, Gordon. You may be very musically talented & within your rights to protect something you worked hard on, but that doesn't excuse you being a cowardly, lying & outright acidic little cretin of a human being. You may've worked hard on the music, but I worked bloody hard on these vocals. No amount of censorship will ever change that. How dare you not only try to destroy some nobody for no better reason than you could, but also hide behind cheap threats of lawyers & further strikes. You're supposed to be a professional, so here's hoping you grew the fuck up & started acting like it.

@@tannerbruning868 It's funny how he insists that's the case, and yet I got no cease & desist or official warning from said legal team beforehand. Absolutely nothing. You'd think that's kind of standard practice, even if it's just a template email they send out with whoever's name attached. I will admit, there is a chance I could be wrong, but it's something that has bothered me since it happened.
Oh & a couple of other things;
- He didn't help his case by immediately going into a toxic little rant about how disrespectful & theiving I am, the very second after the threats of having to fight the lawyers & a second copyright strike (That he actually told me was incoming), as if it was something he could hide behind. It was all like a desperate & hastily thought of alibi. If it's the legal team that did it, that still doesn't give him free reign to tell someone to stop piggybacking off of other people's success, and go do their own work. And yes, that is how he put it. If anything, the fact that lawyers would handle it means he shouldn't have acted as dedicated to destroying any chance of a future I have as he did.
- Secondly, he says it was them, but I still have the email from TH-cam & screenshots that say plain as day it was him. I'm aware there's a chance Bethesda might govern his channel & content, but again, the way in which he spoke reeked of a poorly thought of course of action. It's the way he said it was them, then went straight on to almost proclaim he's the one pushing the buttons, what with how personal he made it. I get someone being protective of something they worked hard on it. I really do get that. But things just don't add up because of how they went down.
I would show you screenshots of the conversation itself, my own initial message included. Unfortunately though, I was so enraged & disgusted with the guy, I very irrationally & foolishly deleted it. That's why I don't expect anyone to believe me or take this seriously, and I will be damned if I'm going to make myself out to be only a victim who could do no wrong. I made some pretty big mistakes, and so did he in doing what he did. But the difference between him & I, is that I admit to these mistakes. They weren't intentional or meant to be seen as they were, but they happened & that's that.
Despite how embarrassingly unhinged I was while writing the message, and how long I went on about stuff that didn't even need to go into it, I do clearly remember making no threats or insults. And within a few minutes, he went straight for the jugular.
If others took care of the problem, that's still overkill he should've known far better than to indulge in. I mean, the guy's a professional in the industry, for crying out loud. And there he was, acting like that 5 year old who howls at his own birthday party, because he doesn't get to stuff his face with every last bit of his own cake. The way in which his argument was presented was disgraceful, to say the least. Even I know that much about professional etiquette 101, and I make any amateur out there look like Troy Baker.
I know that he's going to downplay this, or dismiss it. He has a career & reputation to look out for, and he can't be admitting to stuff that makes him look like a complete dick now, can he?
But I will say this; At the very least, he's been forced to remember what he did.

- Vocal inspirations for this; Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory, Ascension of the Watchers), Michael Bøgballe (Mnemic & Scamp), Guillaume Bideau (Mnemic, after Bøgballe), and Jens Kidman (Meshuggah). Also, A bit of Krieg from Borderlands 2 for the more 'theatric' side. Also the tone.
- The "Rip! Tear!" bits are inspired by one of Gordon's earlier remixes from Killer Instinct; Spinal's Theme. There's a choir going "Flå" for the chorus (Swedish for 'Flay'). At the time, I wanted to show I was a big fan of his work.
- Doom is in fact one of the first games, if not the first game I ever played. Got to enjoy it on someone else's computer, not long after it came out (A PC was enough of a mythical machine for 5+ year old me as it was, and I had no consoles whatsoever). In the weirdest manner that went horribly wrong, I honestly wanted to give something back to the community for keeping this series alive throughout the years.

this is how metal vocals for DOOM tracks should be like. ive seen lots of other vocals for other tracks and they dont fit well. (except for homyksmash) Sheygrell and Exe did a great job on this and it sucks their og vid got taken down.

Actually... You might not be too far off there. The whole "Rip! Tear!" bit is inspired by a song from one of Gordon's earlier soundtracks; Killer Instinct. The idea was from Spinal's theme, where a backing choir is yelling "Flå!" (Swedish for 'flay'). And as far as I know, Spinal is supposed to have some kind of viking backstory in the new games.

I'll mention this first; The whole 'Make it yourself' thing? Yeah, that hasn't been something I've tried to defend or justify. There are reasons why things happened the way they did, and while it really wasn't my intention, the fact is that it happened. I could mention all the things that led me to do something like this, but in the end, it honestly doesn't make any difference or turn back the clock. It's written in stone, I will put my hand up to that stuff anytime, and I've never contested any legal matters with this.
What does piss me off to this day though, I will say until my last breath; There's having the right to protect something you made, and there's the matter of how you protect it. If it was done by "Bethesda's legal team" as he repeatedly claimed (Which is actually Zenimax, a whole other company altogether, so he fucked that up on multiple occasions), I would've gotten some kind of cease & desist. I got nothing, and I had to reach out to get any kind of answer. No attempt at communication, and the only communication I got in response was... I know it must be easy to get a bit big-headed if you're working on a series like Doom... But holy shit. The guy's a professional who already had a decent standing in the industry beforehand. And he went straight for the jugular like someone who's only just coming out of their sheltered higher-education... And he calls me the chad? What a charmingly delusional bit of projection.
So not only did he cling to that lie like an abject coward, it turns out he's proven he was lying with the 'Chad lyrics' bit. I dunno, maybe he's free to speak up about it, now that Eternal's done & dusted. Could've been part of some contractual obligation. All I know is that boomer who carries enough hate for me to use that phrasing kinda makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside. With literally anyone else, I would feel guilty. He is truly the exception.
I know there's a lot in this response, you're just passing on what you've heard, and I've probably mentioned stuff that didn't need to be mentioned. @@FateOfNines Don't worry, I know what ya mean :3 Here's a little behind-the-scenes trivia for you; The idea behind that bit was supposed to be inspired by the band 'Fear Factory', as Burton C. Bell is my biggest influence when it comes to vocals. It was supposed to be a lot more boomy, with plenty more lower range & a bit of a choir-esque edge to it (Lower backing vocals that acted as bass, higher backing vocals for the start of each lyric; "Wake up", "Your life", etc).
Unfortunately though, my nerves still get the better of me when it comes to vocals. It comes across as less of a badass section, and more of an 'Aspiring dork who disagrees with his life decisions' trying to do a badass section ^^; It's almost as if you could practically feel how awkwardly uncomfortable I am in the soundbooth.
Believe me, I can tell you that upon reviewing this a few times now, sometimes I think "Yeeeah it could be worse", and other times I've just gone "Abort! ABORT!", and closed the tab. I feel the second chorus is a lot smoother, but that first one... Urgh x.x
Basically, absolutely no offense taken. for I've got some critical opinion on this as well. I'm just glad you enjoyed anything about this :3

You can absolutely hear the unease; saying that having also snuck to hear a couple of other pieces you've done in the mean time! The voice is there but you gotta get that confidence out! We're just personalities on the internet, afterall, so let it loose!
As for the FearFactory influence I can pick that up, but the representation of it is, hrm. For deep, layered, tones like that, I personally like to dig into inspiration from like, Pete Murray from Ultraspank, Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract and Skyharbor, and Cameron Heacock from American Head Charge. Deep, fluid tone, powerful ejections; those are the voices I look at and I feel like something inspired from those guys would REALLY hit the mark here!
Either way I REALLY do enjoy it! I just feel like you can really polish it up, and if it's confidence holding you back throw that out of the window right now and just do it! I'm sure you already know the difference being confident in your voice can make~ Keep doing things! ;3 You have a new individual peeking around for the stuff you do now!

Still, since voice acting's my main department, vocals is something I always wanted to try. I know I can do it. All it takes is practice, and I've had some of that since this song.
Gotta say, it's been years since I even heard the name American Head Charge! That's going back to some ridiculously early days. Pretty sure I've heard at least a couple of songs from all the others you've mentioned as well (Lots of compilation CD's & stuff). While it is amazing how guys like Heacock can belt out a chorus ('Just so You Know'... 'Nuff said), there's something absolutely unparallelled about Burton's clarity & power. Prime example; The ending of 'Pisschrist' gives me chills, everytime. He's one of the 3 vocalists I keep coming back to; You got him, Michael Bøgballe & Guillaume Bideau from Mnemic (But more so with Michael), and Jens Kidman from Meshuggah... Sooo many songs I want to do a cover of someday!
There's other bits & pieces, but they're definitely my foundation. I could go on about this for days >.>
